Hair Dryer Shield

A hair dryer shield. The hair dryer shield includes a head band that is wearable on a wearer's head, and one or more guard members are affixed to the head band and extend down to cover the ear's and neck of the wearer. A visor is also affixed to the head band and extends over the face of the wearer. The guard members include a thermal resistant layer that prevents heat from transferring from one side of the guard members. Further, the guard members includes moisture wicking layers that collects any access moisture that may run off from the head of the wearer. In one use, the hair dryer shield protects the wearer from heat generated by a hair drying machine and prevents excess water from dripping onto a shirt of the wearer.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/182,880 filed on Jun. 22, 2015. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a hair dryer shield. More specifically, the present invention relates to a hair dryer shield wearable on a user's head that utilizes one or more guard members to protect the forehead, face, neck, ears and shoulders of a wearer from heat generated by a hear drying machine.

Many people use heat generating cosmetology instrument, such as hair dryers and curling irons, to dry and style hair. However, these instruments may produce an excess amount of heat that creates a risk of burning or irritate the user. For example, some hair dryers, such as hooded hair dryers found at many beauty salons, generate heat and direct that heat towards the hair of the user. Although directed at the hair, the heated blown air is not confined to hair and spreads to the forehead, face, neck, ears and shoulders of the user. The excessive heat generated by these machines can be uncomfortably hot, potentially painful, and in some situations dangerous.

Wet hair is preferred by hair stylist to provide for a wider range of styling options that includes utilizing hair dryers in conjunction with rollers placed in the hair. However, water from the wet hair is blown by the hair dryer resulting in the excess water dripping down the neck and back. Clothes can become wet and uncomfortable, leaving an individual to sit in damp clothing the remainder of the day. Further, rollers placed in the hair for styling often become undone from the blown air. There are some devices that can be worn to protect from the heat generated by hair dryers. However, these devices for example, do not protect the wearer from excessive heat and moisture and keep the rollers from becoming undone

In light of the devices disclosed in the prior art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the prior art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to hair dryer shields. In this regard the instant invention substantially fulfills these needs.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of hair dryer shields now present in the field, the present invention provides a hair dryer shield that utilizes one or more guard members affixed to a head band and a visor, wherein the guard members and visor provide heat protection and collects excess water from the wearer's head.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved hair dryer shield that has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a hair dryer shield that includes a hairnet that is configured to be securable over the top portion of the head of the wearer to retain the wearer's hair and hair styling devices, such as curlers.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a hair dryer shield that comprises a visor having a movable flap that may be selectively repositioned by the wearer to maximize protection from excessive heat.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a hair dryer shield that comprises an elastic band in the head band that allows a variety of wearers having a multiple head sizes wear the heat shield.

Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the hair dryer shield. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for providing heat protection from a hair dryer. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention. The present invention provides a hair dryer shield 10 that protects a wearer from heat generated by a hair drying machine and absorbs excess liquid that may drip from the wearer's hair. The hair dryer shield 10 comprises a head band 11 configured to extend around a perimeter of a head of a wearer and expose a top portion of the head of the wearer, including the hair of the wearer. One or more guard members 12 are affixed to the head band 11 and configured to cover a face of the wearer, wherein the one or more guard members 12 comprise a heat resistant layer (not shown).

In the shown embodiment, the guard members 12 are integral with the head band 11. However, in alternative embodiments, the guard members 12 may be removable via fasteners, such as Velcro, and the like. Further, a visor 13 is affixed to the head band 11 and configured to extend outward over the eyes and nose of the wearer. In one embodiment, the visor 13 further comprises a stiffing member thereby allowing the visor 13 to be sufficiently rigid to remain approximately perpendicular to the head band 11. A hairnet 14 is connected to the head band 11 and configured to be securable over the top portion of the head of the wearer. In one embodiment, the hairnet 14 extends over the perimeter of a head of a wearer. The hairnet 14 is configured to retain a wearer's hair and hair styling devices, such as curls, in place.

Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown cross sectional view of one embodiment of the guard member taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1 of the present invention. In the shown embodiment, the guard members 12 comprise a first moisture wicking layer 16 and a second moisture wicking layer 18. An internal heat resistant layer 17 is disposed between the moisture wicking layers 16, 18, wherein the heat resistant layer 17 is configured to prevent heat from transferring from one side of the guard members 12 to the opposing side of the guard members 12. In one embodiment, the heat resistant layer 17 comprises therma-flec heat resistant fabric. In this way, the hair dryer shield 10 protects the ears, neck, and face of the wearer from excess heat generated by a hair drying machine.

Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown an overhead view of one embodiment of the present invention. In the shown embodiment, the head band 11 comprises an elastic band 20 configured to expand and retract around the head of the wearer. In this way, the present invention may be fitted for wearer's having head sizes of varying sizes. In the shown embodiment, the head band 11 further comprises a first end 21 and a second end 22, wherein the first end 21 is removably attachable to the second end 22 via a Velcro fastener 23. In the shown embodiment, the visor 13 also includes flap member having a fastener 25 configured to raise the visor 13 into an upward position. In the upward position, the flap 15 has an inclined orientation, wherein the visor 13 position is selectively adjustable by the wearer. When the fastener 25 is not being utilized, the visor 13 is in a downward position, wherein the visor 13 is generally orthogonal to the headband 11.

Referring now to FIGS. 4 and 5, there is shown a front and rear perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention in one use, respectfully. In the shown embodiments, the wearer 30 has her head positioned within a professional style hair dryer 31 adapted to receive the top portion of the head of the wearer 30. The guard members 12 and visor 13 are positioned between the head, ears, and neck of the wearer 13, wherein heat is prevented from transferring from the hair dryer 31 thereto. In the shown embodiment, the hair dryer shield comprises a first guard member 12 attached to the head band and configured to cover a first ear of the wearer, and a second guard member 12 attached to the head band and configured to cover a second ear of the wearer. Further, the hair dryer shield 10 collects any access moisture that may run off from the head of the wearer 30, given that the hair dryer 31 blows heated air towards the wearer 30.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A hair dryer shield comprising:

a head band configured to extend around a perimeter of a head of a wearer; the head band configured to expose a top portion of the head of the wearer;
one or more guard members affixed to the head band and configured to cover an ear and a neck of the wearer;
wherein the one or more guard members comprise a heat resistant layer;
a visor attached to the head band and configured to extend outward over a face of the wearer.

2. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, wherein:

the visor further comprises a flap movable between an upward position and downward position via fastener.

3. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, wherein:

the one or more guard members further comprises a moisture wicking layer.

4. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, wherein:

the head band further comprises a first end that is connectable to a second end via a fastener.

5. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, further comprising:

a hairnet affixed to the head band and configured to be securable over the top portion of the head of the wearer.

6. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, wherein:

the visor further comprises a stiffing member.

7. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, wherein:

the heat resistant layer is therma-flec heat resistant fabric.

8. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, further comprising:

a hairnet connected to the head band and extending thereacross;
wherein the hairnet is configured to be placed over the top portion of the head of the wearer.

9. The hair dryer shield of claim 1, wherein:

the one or more guard members are removably affixed to the head band via fasteners.

10. A hair dryer shield comprising:

a head band configured to extend around the perimeter of a wearer's head;
a first guard member attached to the head band and configured to cover a first ear of the wearer;
a second guard member attached to the head band and configured to cover a second ear of the wearer;
wherein the one or more guard members comprise a pair of moisture wicking layers and a heat resistant layer disposed therebetween;
a visor attached to the head band configured to extends outward over the eyes and nose of the wearer.
