COMB WITH LARGE INTERTOOTH SPACING
The present invention is directed to a comb for untangling curly hair. The comb includes a rigid frame extending lengthwise from a first end to a second end, the frame including a generally planar main body and its first end presenting an edge. A plurality of rigid teeth extend distally from the edge of the frame, with the plurality of teeth generally linear, aligned with one another, and generally coplanar. The intertooth spacing is configured to untangle hair while minimally disturbing styled hair. A rigid handle extend from the second end of the frame, the handle presenting a gripping surface for engaging the comb to hair.
The present invention claims priority to provisional application 62/196,761, which has a filing date of Jul. 24, 2015.
BACKGROUNDField of the Invention
The present invention relates to combs, more specifically to combs which untangle hair while minimally disturbing styled hair.
Description of the Related Art
Segments of the population have naturally curly hair or have curly hair as a result of the services of a hair salon professional. Maintaining orderly, styled curls after leaving home or the hair salon can be difficult. It would be optimal to untangle the hair throughout the day as it is exposed to wind, humidity, and other conditions unfavorable to maintaining the hair style. Current combs do so poorly, contributing to separation of curls, frizz, or other disfiguration. For the above reasons, it would be advantageous to use a comb which untangles hair while minimally disturbing styled hair.
SUMMARYThe present invention is directed to a comb for untangling curly hair. The comb comprises a rigid frame extending lengthwise from a first end to a second end, the frame including a generally planar main body and its first end presenting an edge.
These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the invention will become better understood with reference to the following description, and accompanying drawings.
Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein. It is to be understood, however, that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or manner.
The present invention is directed to a comb which untangles hair while minimally disturbing styled hair in use, such as untangling curls while minimally contributing to “frizz.” Factors which have been attributed to frizzy hair include dry cuticles and static electricity.
The frame 12 is a section extending lengthwise from a first end to a second end. In exemplary configuration, the frame 12 is rigid and includes a generally planar main body and its first end presents a generally linear edge 13. In exemplary configuration, the frame 12 is composed of the same material as the teeth 16, which will be discussed further below.
A plurality of rigid teeth 14 extend distally and outwardly from the edge 13 of the frame 12 operable to directly engage and contact the user's hair. In certain configurations, the teeth 14 extend about 0.5 inches to several inches. The teeth 14 are composed of rigid material. Further suitable compositions for the teeth 14 are those which do not remove or minimally remove moisture or facilitate static charge, are durable, and are lightweight. Representative compositions include plastics. The teeth 14 can be composed of any suitable material or combination of materials. For example, they can be composed of a moldable material, such as plastic or, in particular, polypropylene. The teeth 14 can be composed of a metal such as stainless steel. However, other suitable metals, plastics, or other materials can be used.
In exemplary configuration, the teeth 14 are generally straight or linear and aligned with one another and generally coplanar. In certain configurations, the comb 10 includes two to ten spaced apart teeth 14 extending from the frame 12. In certain configurations, four spaced apart teeth 14 extend from the frame 12. The intertooth spacing 16, that is to say the distance between adjacent teeth 16, is greater than current combs. In exemplary configuration, the intertooth spacing 16 is about one inch. In certain configurations, the intertooth spacing 16 is greater than about one centimeter. In certain configurations, the intertooth spacing 16 is greater than about one inch. In certain configurations, the intertooth spacing 16 is between about one centimeter and one inch. It is within the scope of this invention to vary the intertooth spacing 16 within a single comb 10 so that the intertooth spacing 16 16′ 16″ is not uniform, as shown in
A handle 18 extends from the second end of the frame, operable to provide a gripping region for the user. The handle 18 is rigid and dimensioned for hand gripping by a user. In certain configurations, the handle 18 is about 1.5-2 inches wide. In exemplary configuration, the handle is composed of the same material as the frame 12 and teeth 14 and unitary with both the frame 12 and teeth 14.
In certain configurations, an ornamental section 20 extends from the distal end of the handle 18. The depicted ornamental section 20 includes a fleur-de-lis design.
In various configurations, the comb 10 is about six inches from the end of the ornamental section 20 to the end of the teeth 14 and about 3.5 inches wide, across the teeth.
Insofar as the description above and the accompanying drawing disclose any additional subject matter that is not within the scope of the single claim below, the inventions are not dedicated to the public and the right to file one or more applications to claim such additional inventions is reserved.
