BACKGROUND

Field of the Invention

This invention relates to wearable garments, and more particularly, to a jumpsuit garment known as a “onesie”, the jumpsuit having the improvement of a configurable pouch disposed on a front side thereof.

Description of the Related Art

A “onesie” is a popular term for a one-piece jumpsuit, often worn by small children but sometimes manufactured for adults.

The onesie, in conventional form, generally includes a garment having a body portion, sleeves, pant legs, and a seam for opening/closing the garment to don or remove. Most onesies include a zipper extending along the body portion at the seam; however, many fasters have been used, including buttons, Velcro, and the like. The onesie may often include a hood portion, though a hood is not always required.

Onesies have been utilized as sleep wear for many years, however, such articles have gained significant popularity as stylish street fashion in recent years.

While onesies have been well described and received in the art, there remains a need for improved onesies having unique utilitarian and stylish features.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

In the following description, for purposes of explanation and not limitation, details and descriptions are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced in other embodiments that depart from these details and descriptions without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Certain embodiments will be described below with reference to the drawings wherein illustrative features are denoted by reference numerals.

In a preferred embodiment, a jumpsuit garment comprises: (i) a vertical opening extending vertically along a front side of the jumpsuit from a neck portion down; (ii) a first pocket positioned adjacent to the vertical opening at a first side thereof; (iii) a second pocket positioned adjacent to the vertical opening at a second side opposite of the first side; and (iv) a flap being attached to the jumpsuit along a lateral seam extending horizontally about the jumpsuit beneath the first and second pockets. The flap can be configured to extend downwardly from the lateral seam when in a first configuration. Alternatively, the flap can be configured to extend upwardly from the lateral seam and further configured to be engaged at one or more securing elements to form a pouch, the pouch being positioned in front of the first and second pockets.

In certain embodiments, the jumpsuit can comprise a hood portion attached to the jumpsuit. However, in other embodiments the jumpsuit may not comprise a hood.

The configurable pouch provides an outer pocket or pouch positioned in front of the opposing pockets of the jumpsuit. In this regard, a child or other user may insert a toy, such as a stuffed animal or other toy, or any other object of suitable size, in the pouch.

The pouch can be formed by engaging the securing elements, such as snaps, Velcro, zippers, buttons, or other known fasteners or securing elements, with a counterpart element positioned on the jumpsuit. For example, the flap of the pouch may comprise a first male snap at an upper left corner and a second male snap at an upper right corner, whereas the jumpsuit may be configured with a first female snap positioned above the left pocket and a second female snap positioned above the right pocket, each of the male and female snaps being configured to engage with one another to form a securing element. While certain fasteners or securing elements are shown and described, it should be understood by those with skill in the art that any fastener or securing element may be similarly incorporated without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Now turning to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows a front view of a jumpsuit 100 with configurable pouch in accordance with an embodiment. The jumpsuit 100 includes a hood portion 110, a vertical opening 120 extending downwardly from a neck portion, a pair of sleeves 130 configured to receive arms of a user, a pair of opposing pockets 140 including a first pocket disposed on a first side of the vertical opening and a second pocket disposed on a second side of the vertical opening, a flap 150 being attached to the jumpsuit along a lateral seam 155, and leg portions 160. The flap further comprises securing element 151 and the jumpsuit comprises securing element 152, wherein the securing elements 151; 152 are adapted to engage with one another to form a fastener, here a pair of “snaps”, although any fastener may be used as described above. Note that the flap is configured to extend downwardly from the lateral seam when in this first configuration state.

FIG. 2 shows the jumpsuit 100 of FIG. 1 with the vertical opening 120 configured in an open state. Although snaps 121; 122 are illustrated as the fastening means disposed along the vertical opening, it should be noted that a zipper, Velcro, buttons, or other fasteners can be similarly implemented. The jumpsuit includes a hood portion 110, a pair of opposing pockets (including a right pocket 140R and a left pocket 140L) disposed on either side of the vertical opening, leg portions 160, and a flap 150 attached to the jumpsuit along a lateral seam 155 extending horizontally beneath the pockets. The leg portions may or may not comprise booties 170. The flap 150 can be oriented upwardly with respect to the lateral seam and engaged with securing elements 151; 152 to form a pouch, wherein the pouch is positioned in front of the opposing pockets.

FIG. 3 shows the jumpsuit 100 of FIGS. 1-2 with a stuffed animal positioned in the front of the jumpsuit. Although a stuffed animal is illustrated, the pouch can hold a myriad of objects, including toys and other objects having a suitable size. Note the stuffed animal 200 is positioned over the opposing pockets with the flap oriented downwardly with respect to the lateral seam 155.

FIG. 4 shows the jumpsuit 100 having the flap 150 positioned upwardly and engaged to form a pouch, whereas the stuffed animal 200 is positioned substantially within the pouch. Securing elements 151 are used to engage the flap with the jumpsuit to form the pouch.

FIG. 5 shows a rear side of the jumpsuit. The jumpsuit includes a hood portion 110, sleeves 130, a back portion 180, leg portions 160 and optional booties 170.

FIG. 6 shows a left side of the jumpsuit with the flap positioned upwardly prior to engaging a snap or other fastener. From the left side view, the jumpsuit can be seen including a hood portion 110, right arm sleeve 130R, left arm sleeve 130L, pockets 140, leg portions 160, and the flap 150 being positioned in front of the pockets prior to engaging with securing elements to form the pouch.

FIG. 7 shows the left side of the jumpsuit as illustrated in FIG. 6, with the flap 150 positioned upwardly and the securing elements 151 secured, thereby creating a pouch disposed in front of the opposing pockets of the jumpsuit.

FIG. 8 shows a sketch of the jumpsuit with configurable pouch and various features in accordance with another embodiment. The jumpsuit includes an optional hood portion 110, a vertical front seam 120 (also referred to as a vertical opening), a pair of sleeves 130, a pair of pant legs 160, and a pair of opposing pockets 140 being positioned on either side of the vertical opening. Booties 170 are optional depending on manufacturer specifications. The jumpsuit further includes the improvement of the flap 150 being attached to the jumpsuit along a lateral seam 155 extending beneath the pockets 140 and above the gusset 110. With the flap positioned upwardly to extend over the opposing pockets, snaps or other securing elements 151(a-b) [ex: male]; 152(a-b) [ex: female] are engaged to secure the flap 150 in a fixed position, thereby forming the pouch. The pouch comprises three open slots, including a first slot between the first female securing element 152a and the lateral seam 155, a second slot between the second female securing element 152b and the lateral seam 155, and a third slot between each of the first and second female securing elements 152a; 152b, respectively. The flap 150 being positioned in front of the opposing pockets 140 forms an outer pocket or pouch, while the opposing pockets become inner pockets relative to the outer pouch pocket. The inner pockets can further comprise a zipper, Velcro, buttons, or other fasteners for closing; or alternatively the inner pockets may remain open without a fastener. The hood 110 may comprise a removeable hood; or alternatively the jumpsuit may comprise no hood. The hood may further include a decorative hood, including artificial ears to resemble a marsupial such as a kangaroo, koala bear and the like. The sleeves 130 may further comprise gloves or mittens at the hand portions thereof.

FIG. 9 shows an embodiment wherein the vertical seam 120 comprises a zipper 185 extending upwardly from the lateral seam 155.

Although the invention is illustrated in the embodiment of a jumpsuit, the configurable pouch may be similarly implemented in a hooded or non-hooded sweatshirt, or other similar garment product.

While certain features and embodiments have been illustrated and described, it will be recognized that the garment with configurable pouch may be manufactured in a variety of alternative embodiments that would be obvious in view of the instant disclosure. Thus, the description is not intended to be limiting. The scope of the invention is to be defined by the claims as enclosed herewith.
