MATTRESS WITH ARTICULATED FRAME IN TWO PIVOT POINTS FOR USE IN HOSPITAL BEDS

A mattress with an articulated frame in two pivot points for use in hospital beds is provided, where the hospital bed has an underframe made up by sections that may adjust positions, both in the longitudinal and transverse directions, being that the mattress dealt with herein may be constituted by a protective cover with an opening and a zip fastener incorporated, the protective cover defining an enclosure where a foam structure is accommodated, being that such structure has a rectangular shape, the foam structure is made up by a intermediate layer on and under which foam blocks are added, whereby the foam blocks are attached by using appropriate adhesive. The mattress follows the adjustments of the hospital bed, which may perform movements to change the side position of the patient.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims priority to Brazilian Application No. 1020150207131 having a filing date of Aug. 27, 2015 the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference.

FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY

The following relates to a mattress to be used in hospital beds that integrates the list of articles normally employed in the hospital branch.

The following relates to a mattress bearing a structure that may take varied formats or configurations, both in longitudinal and transverse directions. The mattress proposed herein has been particularly developed to be used, for example, in hospital beds as described in the patent request of Utility Model MU 9001994-6, filed on Oct. 19, 2010, whose title is “DISPOSITION INTRODUCED IN HOSPITAL BED WITH MULTIPLE COMPUTERIZED ADJUSTMENTS”.

BACKGROUND

Currently, there is a number of types of hospital beds known, which are especially developed to be used as a resource for accommodation of people temporarily admitted to hospitals.

Conventional hospital beds present devices for elevating thorax and head, as well as articulation of the portion that accommodates the patient's legs.

Conventional hospital beds have activation mechanisms that allow ordered movement of its three basic sections, which accommodate, as already mentioned, patient's head, thorax and legs on these three basic sections mattress with a relatively simple structure is usually positioned.

However, current hospital beds do not allow changing the side position, a procedure that must be performed by the nursing staff.

In that sense, the bed dealt with in the patent request of Utility Model MU 9001994-6 has introduced changes, once it counts on mechanisms that allow the bed to perform such operation automatically or in a programmed manner, as there is a segmented underframe that is activated to be longitudinally folded.

But this type of bed is not totally used in all its potential when using a conventional mattress, as once such mattress is longitudinally folded it crinkles and bends, occasioning discomfort to the patient that uses such bed.

Thus, a need exists for a mattress that is able to accommodate the underframe perfectly, forming several segmented sections, as seen in the bed model dealt with in the patent request of Utility Model MU 9001994-6.

SUMMARY

In view of the technical status described above, the mattress may be changed both in longitudinal and transverse directions, therefore being compatible with the type of hospital bed specifically dealt with in the patent request of Utility Model MU 9001994-6.

An aspect relates to a mattress that allows this type of bed being used in all its potential and provide more convenience to the patient, as it has been developed for the hospital bed dealt with in the patent of Utility Model MU 9001994-6.

An aspect relates to a structure that is made up by an intermediate and thin layer where foam blocks are attached to, by using appropriate adhesive, forming a segmented surface both on the longitudinal and transverse directions.

The mattress proposed herein is wrapped in a cover manufactured with water-proof material, which makes it easier to be cleaned, being that such cover has a side opening closed with an integral zip fastener, and the foam structured may be inserted or removed through such opening.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Some of the embodiments will be described in detail, with reference to the following figures, wherein like designations denote like members, wherein:

FIG. 1 depicts an outlook of an embodiment of the mattress dealt with herein;

FIG. 1A shows an enlarged detail taken from FIG. 1, where a portion of an embodiment of the integral zip fastener that closes the mattress cover is depicted;

FIG. 2 depicts a perspective view of an embodiment of the mattress, which is portrayed with a partial cut in a cover, which allows viewing part of the foam structure that makes up the mattress as a whole;

FIG. 3 shows a planned view of an embodiment of the foam structure that makes up the mattress, where the longitudinal cut line “A”-“A” and transverse cut line “B”-“B” are indicated;

FIG. 4 shows the cut taken from FIG. 3 as indicated by the cut line “A”-“A”;

FIG. 5 shows the cut taken from FIG. 3 as indicated by the cut line “B”-“B”;

FIG. 6 shows an embodiment of the foam structure taken individually and in perspective;

FIG. 7 shows an embodiment of the foam structure taking the condition of longitudinal folding;

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

According to the figures listed above, the mattress t is generally indicated by number and is composed of a protective cover 2 with an opening 3 indicated by the dotted line in FIG. 1, which has a zip fastener 4 incorporated to it.

The protective cover 2 defines an enclosure that accommodates the foam structure 5, and such foam structure 5 basically has a rectangular shape.

The protective cover 2 may be seen in FIG. 1 and detailed in FIG. 1A, and there is also a partial cut in FIG. 2.

The foam structure is made up by an intermediate layer 6 on which foam blocks 7 are added to. Foam blocks 7 are attached by using appropriate adhesive. The foam structure may be seen in FIGS. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, being that in FIGS. 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, the foam structure 5 is shown in its planned condition, and in FIGS. 7, 8, and 9, the foam structure 5 is shown in different conditions of longitudinal folding (FIG. 7) and transverse folding (FIGS. 8 and 9).

Foam blocks 7 make up the upper and lower sides of the foam structure 5, a S-segmented surface both in the longitudinal and transverse directions.

Optionally, mattress 1 may have an integral foam structure, therefore exempting the bonding of foam blocks 7 to the intermediate layer 6.

In the bonded version, foam blocks 7 and intermediate layer 6 may have varied densities or not, being that such density may be changed at the time of manufacture of components 6 and 7.

As for the version seamlessly shaped, the foam density in the area of blocks 7 and intermediate layer should be even.

The foam structure 5 is designed so that folding lines are established and defined throughout the exposed parts of intermediate layer 6 relatively to foam blocks 7, therefore generating segments on the upper and lower sides of the foam structure allowing them to be folded in the longitudinal and transverse directions, as provided for in FIGS. 6, 7, 8, and 9.

The foam structure 5, because of its construction, may be folded in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and may be perfectly accommodated to the hospital bed 8 shown in FIG. 10.

The hospital bed 8 corresponds to the bed model proposed in the patent request of Utility Model MU 9001994-6, which constitutes a bed with multiple adjustments, with an underframe 9 made up by sections 10 that may be adjusted in the longitudinal and transverse directions.

Such FIG. 10 allows checking the foam structure 5 of the mattress has a direct relation between its foam blocks 7 and sections 10 of underframe 9.

Thus, when mattress 1 is positioned on a hospital bed 8, its foam blocks 7 are aligned with the sections 10 and, therefore, when positioning adjustments are made in the hospital bed 8, the mattress 1 may take such adjustment standards in an appropriate way.

The mattress 1 is able to adhere to the movements of adjustment or transverse and longitudinal folding of the hospital bed 8, which makes it articulated in two pivot points (longitudinal and transverse) as defined in the title of this request for Invention Patent.

Claims

1. A mattress with an articulated frame in two pivot points for use in hospital beds, the hospital bed including an underframe made up by a plurality of sections that adjust positions, both in a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction, the mattress comprising:

a protective cover with an opening and a zip fastener incorporated therein, wherein the protective cover defines an enclosure where a foam structure is accommodated, the foam structure having a rectangular shape;
wherein the foam structure is made up by an intermediate layer on and under which a plurality of foam blocks are added, whereby the plurality of foam blocks are attached by using an adhesive.

2. The mattress with an articulated frame in two pivot points, according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of foam blocks form, on an upper face and a lower face of the foam structure, a segmented surface, both in the longitudinal direction and the transverse direction.

3. The mattress with an articulated frame in two pivot points, according to claim 1, wherein the foam structure is integrally shaped with the mattress.

4. The mattress with an articulated frame in two pivot points, according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of foam blocks and the intermediate layer have different densities.
