Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the invention

The invention is related to hair extension. More particularly, the present invention is related to a hair extension with grooved tip that provides stable and strong bonding for attached hair extension.

2. Discussion of Related Technology

Generally, the hair extension technology connects one or more extension hair pieces to hair of a person or an animal. The extension hair pieces are to make the person/animal's hair look longer or thicker and/or add color accents to the person/animal's hair. The extension hair pieces for hair extension are in various forms and shapes, and include hair weaves, widgets, etc. In this field, typically beauticians or hair stylists provide services of connecting extension hair pieces to hair of their customers. In one method of attaching extension hair to a customer's hair, a hair extension tip made of thermoplastic resin, in which extension hair strands are embedded, is put under chosen strands of customer hair; the tip is partially melted with an iron; the tip is rolled to surround the customer's hair strands; and the tip is solidified again after being cooled down. FIG. 9 shows a hair extension tip by prior art in the process of putting hair extension under customer's natural hair. FIG. 10 shows the hair extension tip by prior art after rolling the hair extension tip and the hair extension tip being solidified. Most strands of customer's hair do not contact the surface of the hair extension tip, thus bonding with the partially melted and then solidified surface of the hair extension tip is only partial. Insufficient bonding often becomes problem resulting in weak attachment of even falling of the extension hair. The foregoing discussion in this section is to provide general background information, and does not constitute an admission of prior art.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An objective of the invention is to provide a hair extension tip that provides strong and uniform bonding between extension hair and customer's hair.

In order to achieve the objective, the present invention provides a hair extension comprising a plurality of extension hair strands and a hair extension tip that fixes the extension hair strands at one end of the extension hair strands.

The hair extension tip comprises a flat thin body in which the extension hair strands are embedded and a predetermined number of parallel protrusions formed on one surface of the flat body.

The body has a rectangular shape, and the protrusions are aligned with the extension hair strands.

The protrusion has a triangular cross-sectional shape having a predetermined height.

Preferably, the predetermined height of the protrusion is in a range from 1 mm to 2 mm, and the predetermined number of protrusions is three (3) to five (5). The hair extension tip is made of thermoplastic material.

The advantageous effects of the present invention are: (1) durable hair extension attachment is possible because customer's hair strands are adhered to the hair extension tip in a larger contact area due to the protrusions; (2) uniform distributing and aligning customer's hair strands over the hair extension tip is facilitated by the triangular parallel protrusions.

DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Embodiments will be described in detail below. The accompanying drawings will be used for describing embodiments. For the sake of convenience of illustrating embodiments, thickness, length, diameter, size and other dimensions of components and/or would be illustrated or exaggerated to be different with those of actual components and/or hair, and the subject matter of this application is not limited to the illustrated embodiments.

FIGS. 1-8 show a hair extension le of the present invention, which comprises a plurality of extension hair strands 12 and a hair extension tip 14 that fixes the extension hair strands 12 at one end of the extension hair strands 12. In FIGS. 1-7, for clarity of illustrating the grooved hair extension tip 14, strands 12 of extension hair are partially illustrated.

The hair extension tip 14 comprises a flat thin body 16, in which the extension hair strands 12 are embedded and a predetermined number of parallel protrusions 18 formed on one surface 20 of the flat body 16.

The body 16 has a rectangular shape, and the protrusions 18 are aligned with the extension hair strands 14 (refer to FIGS. 1 and 4).

As shown on FIGS. 3 and 4, the protrusion 18 has a triangular cross-sectional shape having a predetermined height h. The hair extension tip 16 is made of thermoplastic material, which functions as glue to hold the extension hair strands 14. FIG. 4 shows that the extension hair strands 12 are uniformly embedded in the body 16.

FIG. 11 shows the hair extension tip 14 in the process of attaching hair extension 10 to customer's natural hair 22. FIG. 12 shows the hair extension tip 14 after being rolled. The customer's natural hair 22 are surrounded by the protrusions 18 and flat portions 24 between the protrusions. The contact area between the natural hair 22 and the solidified hair extension tip 14 is very large.

Preferably, the predetermined height h of the protrusion is in a range from 1 mm to 2 mm, and the predetermined number of protrusions is three (3) to five (5). If h is too small, aligning hair strands between the protrusions would be difficult. If h is too big, the finished rolled tip 14 would be too big. If the number of protrusions is too little, the flat portion 24 between adjacent protrusions would be too wide, and effect of aligning and spreading hair strands would diminish. If the number of protrusions is tool many, the flat portion between adjacent protrusions would be too narrow, number of hair strands that can be received in the finished rolled tip would be too little, thereby weakening the connection.

Although the hair extension tip according to an exemplary embodiment. of the present invention has been described in detail hereinabove, it should be understood that many variations and modifications of the basic inventive concept herein described, which may appear to those skilled in the art, will still fall within the spirit and scope of the exemplary embodiments of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

The drawings and the forgoing description gave examples of the present invention. The scope of the present invention, however, is by no means limited by these specific example. Numerous variations, whether explicitly given in the specification or not, such as differences in structure, dimension, and use of material, are possible. The scope of the invention is at least as broad as given by the following claims.
