A mock duvet cover is disclosed. The mock duvet cover may include one side, which may be a substantially rectangular flat sheet. Such a flat sheet may correspond in size to a duvet having a defined size. The mock duvet cover may further include a pocket attached to one of the flat sheet. A portion of the duvet having the defined size may be insertable into the pocket. As such, the pocket may hold the duvet in place when the duvet and associated mock duvet cover are placed on a bed.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention generally relates to duvet covers. More specifically, the present invention relates to a mock duvet cover.

2. Description of the Related Art

Duvets are a type of bedding used to provide warmth and coverage to users. Generally stuffed with a soft stuffing (e.g., down, feathers, synthetic equivalents), duvets are generally difficult to clean. Depending on the type of stuffing, duvets may require specialist cleaning, which may be expensive. As such, a duvet is usually used with a duvet cover that prevents the duvet from being exposed.

A duvet cover generally corresponds in size and shape to the duvet. Made of two substantially rectangular flat sheets sewn together along three edges and perhaps part of a fourth edge, the duvet cover allows a duvet to be inserted along the open edge. The duvet cover therefore encloses the duvet between two flat sheets of fabric. Such a duvet cover is generally made to be removable and separately cleaned (e.g. standard laundering). Duvet covers therefore allow the duvets themselves to require cleaning much less frequently.

It may be time-consuming and/or inconvenient to remove and replace a duvet cover from a duvet, however. While such removal and replacement need not take place as often for home use, various hospitality institutions (e.g., hotels, cruise ships, vacation rentals) may need to do so daily and/or every time a guest checks out. For large institutions with a large number of beds, such time adds up.

There is, therefore, a need in the art for improved systems and methods for providing a mock duvet cover.

SUMMARY OF THE CLAIMED INVENTION

Embodiments of the present invention provide a mock duvet cover. Such a mock duvet cover may include one side, which may be a substantially rectangular flat sheet. Such a flat sheet may correspond in size to a duvet having a defined size. The mock duvet cover may further include a pocket attached to one side of the flat sheet. A portion of the duvet having the defined size may be insertable into the pocket. As such, the pocket may hold the duvet in place when the duvet and associated mock duvet cover are placed on a bed.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Embodiments of the present invention provide a mock duvet cover. Such a mock duvet cover may include one side, which may be a substantially rectangular flat sheet. Such a flat sheet may correspond in size to a duvet having a defined size. The mock duvet cover may further include a pocket attached to one side of the flat sheet. A portion of the duvet having the defined size may be insertable into the pocket. As such, the pocket may hold the duvet in place when the duvet and associated mock duvet cover are placed on a bed.

FIG. 1 illustrates a top view of an exemplary mock duvet cover 100. Mock duvet cover 100. As illustrated, the mock duvet cover 100 appears like a flat top sheet as viewed from the top, substantially rectangular and corresponding in size to a duvet having a defined size. Defined sizes may include twin size, full size, queen size, king size, and California king size. In some embodiments, the mock duvet cover may be hemmed along all four edges of its substantially rectangular shape. Like standard duvet covers, the mock duvet cover may also be made of a variety of fabrics, as well as embellished in any number of ways (e.g., different colors, patterns, embroidery). Such fabrics may include 100% cotton fabrics, blends of cotton and polyester (e.g. 60% cotton/40% polyester), or 100% polyester fabrics. In some instances, multiple different types of fabrics may be pieced together to make mock duvet cover 100. Such fabrics may include fabrics having a solid color, having a pattern (e.g., jacquard), or combinations of both. One exemplary patterned fabric may include a wave pattern extending along a vertical of the mock duvet cover 100.

An exemplary mock duvet cover 100 may have dimensions of 105 inches by 95 inches, be made of 100% cotton, having a sateen weave, and a satin finish. Its edges may be reinforced with additional layers of fabric attached together. Such layers may be created by folding down edges (e.g., by half an inch or more) of the rectangular flat sheet. The layers may likewise be attached together by single stitching, double stitching, bar tack stitching, other reinforced stitching, and non-stitching attachments. In some instances, the mock duvet cover 100 may further include fasteners that attach the mock duvet cover 100 to a duvet inserted into a pocket (described in further detail below) and thereby hold the duvet in place relative to the mock duvet cover 100.

FIG. 2 illustrates a bottom view of the exemplary mock duvet cover 100 of FIG. 1. From the bottom, pocket 200 is visible. Pocket 200 is closed along the edge aligned with the edge of the mock duvet cover and along the edges other than open edge 210. Pocket 200 allows for part of a duvet (not shown) to be tucked in, thereby holding the duvet in place while the duvet (as tucked into the mock duvet cover 100) is placed on a bed.

The depth of the pocket 200 may be half a length of the duvet along an edge or less (e.g., 15 inches). In some embodiments, the pocket 200 may be made of a same piece of fabric as the mock duvet cover (e.g., that has been folded over and sewn on three edges except the open edge 210). In other embodiments, the pocket 200 may be made of a separate piece of fabric cut to correspond to the width of the mock duvet cover 100. As such, the separate piece of fabric may be sewn to the mock duvet cover 100 along the three edges other than the open edge 210.

While the embodiment of FIG. 2 illustrates one pocket 200, there may more than one pocket in other embodiments. For example, there may be another pocket along an opposite edge of the mock duvet cover 100 (e.g., top and bottom, right and left). A standard duvet of a defined size may therefore be tucked into a pocket 200 via open edge 210 of a mock duvet cover 100 of a corresponding size. The mock duvet cover 200 may therefore appear like a standard duvet cover from the top side. The mock duvet cover 200 is less time-intensive to change, however, as the pocket 200 allows for only part of the duvet to be inserted (versus completely enclosing a duvet). Such a mock duvet cover 200 may be used with a separate flat sheet to prevent the duvet from coming into contact with users.

FIG. 3 is a flowchart illustrating an exemplary method 300 for making a mock duvet cover. The steps identified in FIG. 3 (and the order thereof) are exemplary and may include various alternatives, equivalents, or derivations thereof including but not limited to the order of execution of the same.

In the method 300, a substantially rectangular sheet of fabric is cut (e.g., from a bolt of fabric) and/or pieced together (e.g., from smaller pieces of fabric) in step 310. Such a substantially rectangular sheet may correspond to a defined duvet size (e.g., twin, full, queen, king, California king).

In step 320, the sheet may be hemmed along any of its four edges. In step 330, a pocket 200 may be sewn onto one side (e.g., bottom-facing side) of the flat sheet. Such a pocket 200 may be made by folding over an edge of the flat sheet (in which case the flat sheet may be cut slightly longer than the duvet size, where the excess length corresponds to the depth of the pocket 200. Alternatively, the pocket 200 may be made of a separate piece of fabric. As described above, the pocket 200 may be sewn along the edges corresponding to the edges of the flat sheet. The pocket 200 may have an open edge 210, however, that is not sewn to the flat sheet. The pocket 200 therefore allows for the duvet to be inserted partially therein, thereby holding the duvet in place when used together on a bed.

Thus, the breadth and scope of a preferred embodiment should not be limited by any of the above-described exemplary embodiments. To the contrary, the present descriptions are intended to cover such alternatives, modifications, and equivalents as may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims and otherwise appreciated by one of ordinary skill in the art. The scope of the invention should, therefore, be determined not with reference to the above description, but instead should be determined with reference to the appended claims along with their full scope of equivalents.

Claims

1. A mock duvet cover comprising:

a substantially rectangular flat sheet, the flat sheet corresponding in size to a duvet having a defined size; and
a pocket attached to one edge of the flat sheet, wherein a portion of the duvet having the defined size is insertable into the pocket.

2. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, further comprising another pocket on another edge of the flat sheet.

3. The mock duvet cover of claim 2, wherein the other edge of the flat sheet is opposite to the edge of the flat sheet.

4. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein the other edge of the flat sheet is adjacent to the edge of the flat sheet, and wherein the pocket and the other pocket are connected.

5. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein the pocket is integrally formed from a same sheet of material as the flat sheet.

6. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein the pocket is formed from a separate piece of material.

7. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein a depth of the pocket is less than half a length of the duvet.

8. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein a depth of the pocket is half a length of the duvet.

9. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, further comprising one or more fasteners that attach to a duvet insert to keep the duvet insert in position, wherein the fasteners comprise at least one of buttons, Velcro, or other fasteners.

10. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein the rectangular flat sheet is formed of a fabric having a solid color or a pattern.

11. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein the pocket is formed of a fabric having a solid color or a pattern.

12. The mock duvet cover of claim 11, wherein the pattern is a wave pattern along a vertical of the rectangular flat sheet.

13. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein at least one edge of the rectangular flat sheet comprises a plurality of layers of fabric attached together.

14. The mock duvet cover of claim 13, wherein the plurality of layers comprises one or more folds of the fabric.

15. The mock duvet cover of claim 13, wherein the layers of fabric are attached together by at least one of single stitching, double stitching, bar tack stitching, other reinforced stitching, and non-stitching attachments.

16. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein the dimensions of the rectangular flat sheet are 105 inches by 95 inches.

17. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein a fabric of the rectangular flat sheet or of the pocket is 100% cotton.

18. The mock duvet cover of claim 1, wherein a fabric of the rectangular flat sheet or of the pocket has a sateen weave or a satin finish.
