Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to bedding and, more particularly, to crib bedding having magnetic attachments.

An infant bed or crib is a small bed specifically for infants and very young children. Current crib sheets and top removable covers have loops, hooks or zippers, which take time to detach. Certain waterproof sheets do not work if the child changes position and washing the entire sheet set including the fitted sheet and replacing the fitted sheet in the middle of the night may be difficult for parents with young children.

Bumpers (cushioning) are used to keep children from bumping against the hard sides and hurting themselves; breathable bumpers are intended to prevent suffocation, while providing padding. Current bumpers are tied to the crib slats. Tying a multiple knots around the crib can be time consuming and tiresome.

As can be seen, there is a need for an improved magnetic bedding for cribs.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

Referring to FIGS. 1 through 10, the present invention includes a crib bedding 10. The crib bedding 10 includes at least a fitted sheet 12 and a top sheet 14. A plurality of magnets 18 are attached about a periphery of the fitted sheet 12. A plurality of magnets 18 are attached about a periphery of the top sheet 14. The plurality of magnets 18 of the top sheet 14 attract and releasably retain to the plurality of magnets 18 of the fitted sheet 12 when the fitted sheet 12 is covering the top sheet 14. Therefore, when the top sheet 14 is dirty, the top sheet 14 may easily be removed to be washed.

The plurality of magnets 18 of the present invention may include either a ferromagnetic material or a magnetic material. The magnets 18 may be double PVC magnets that are washable in a washing machine. In certain embodiments, the plurality of magnets 18 are secured to the sheets 12, 14 by a magnet support strip 20, adding support and structure to the plurality of magnets 18. A magnetic support strip 20 may be disposed on each side of the fitted sheet 12 and the top sheet. Each magnetic support strip 20 may secure from two to four magnets 18.

The fitted sheet 12 has its four corners, and sometimes two or four sides, fitted with elastic, to be used as a bottom sheet. The fitted sheet may also be secured using a drawstring instead of elastic. The purpose of a fitted bottom sheet is to keep it from slipping off the mattress 13 while the bed is in use. In certain embodiments, the present invention may include an under sheet 16. The under sheet 16 may be made of a fabric and may include an edge. The edge of the under sheet 16 is secured to the periphery of the fitted sheet 12 by stitching 22. The magnetic support strip 20 and the plurality of magnets 18 of the fitted sheet 12 may be disposed in between the under sheet 16 and the fitted sheet 12 adjacent to the stitching 22.

The top sheet 14 of the present invention may include a flat sheet having a rectangular shape. The top sheet 14 may be made of a waterproof material, thereby protecting the under sheet 16, the fitted sheet 12, and the mattress 13 from being soiled. In certain embodiments, the edge of the top sheet 14 is folded about itself and stitched to an under side of the top sheet 14 by stitching 22 forming a seam. The magnetic support strip 20 and the plurality of magnets 18 of the top sheet 14 are disposed within the seam.

Materials that may be used to create the bed sheets 12, 14 include cotton, linen, satin, silk, rayon, bamboo fibre, polypropylene spunbound, blends of cotton with polyester, and the like.

The present invention may further include a bumper system 30. The bumper system 30 includes a strap 38 and a crib bumper 36. The strap 38 is looped and sized to wrap around the outer cage formed by the slats 34 of the crib 32. A plurality of magnets 18 are attached and may be embedded within the strap 38. Each magnet 18 is positioned to be disposed in between the slats 34 of the crib 32. The crib bumper 36 of the present invention is similar to other crib bumpers and includes padding and is sized to wrap inside the inner cage of the crib 32. A plurality of magnets 18 are attached and may be embedded within the crib bumper 36. The plurality of magnets 18 of the crib bumper 36 are positioned to align with the plurality of magnets 18 of the strap 38. To secure the bumper system 30 to the crib 32, the strap 38 is wrapped around the outside of the cage and the bumper 36 is placed within the cage. The magnets 18 of the crib bumper 36 are releasably retained to the magnets 18 of the strap 38 in between the slats 34, thereby securing the crib bumper 36 in place within the crib 32.

The present invention may further include a crib rail cover 40. The crib rail cover 40 includes a foldable material 42 sized to cover a top rail 33 of a crib 32. The foldable material 42 includes a first edge opposing a second edge. The first edge includes a plurality of magnets 18 each positioned to be disposed in between slats 34 of the crib 32 and the second edge includes a plurality of magnets 18 positioned to align with and releasably retain to the plurality of magnets 18 of the first edge. Therefore, the crib rail cover 40 is folded over the top rail 33 of the crib 32 and the magnets 18 are attached together in between the slats 34 to releasably secure the crib rail cover 40 to the crib 33. In certain embodiments, the foldable material 40 may include a first fabric sheet 44 and a second fabric sheet 46 sewn together by stitching 22. The plurality of magnets 18 may be disposed in between the first fabric sheet 44 and the second fabric sheet 46.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
