HOODED SHOULDER WRAP GARMENT

Abstract

A hooded shoulder wrap for allowing a user to cover their upper body while in a bed or chair without restricting mobility. The hooded shoulder wrap includes a trapezoidal base section operative to be wrapped around the neck, shoulder and upper torso area of a user, a hood member for use to cover the head and neck, and two sleeve sections through which a user can selectively slide their arms. In use, the hooded shoulder wrap may be advantageously employed in addition to conventional blankets to optimally cover a user, with the blankets covering the user's entire lower body and lower torso and the hooded shoulder wrap covering the upper torso, shoulders and head/neck.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Field of the Invention

This invention relates generally to hooded apparel and, more particularly, to a to a hooded shoulder wrap garment that is suitable to cover a wearer's head and shoulders.

Description of the Prior Art

The use of gowns, blankets and other covering items to keep a patient warm while in a hospital or other health care setting is well known. A problem which still exists, however, is that conventional covering items are often unable to provide coverage for a user's head and shoulder area without substantially limiting the user's mobility or otherwise making the user uncomfortable. Thus, there remains a need for a hooded shoulder wrap which could be selectively worn by a user to provide coverage for their head, neck and shoulders without restriction the user's mobility. It would be helpful if such a hooded shoulder wrap included sleeve sections for receiving and covering a user's arms while still allowing the arms to be moved. It would be additionally desirable for such a hooded shoulder wrap to include opposing fastenable ends so as to enable a user to selectively enclose their body inside the wrap.

The Applicant's invention described herein provides for a hooded shoulder wrap adapted to allow a user cover their head, neck and shoulders without creating restricting mobility restrictions. The primary components in Applicant's hooded shoulder wrap are a base section, a hood, and arm sleeves. When in operation, the r hooded shoulder wrap provides more effective and efficient warming coverage of a user's upper body, particularly for a user who may be sitting up in a bed or chair. As a result, many of the limitations imposed by prior art structures are removed.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A hooded shoulder wrap for allowing a user to cover their upper body while in a bed or chair without restricting mobility. The hooded shoulder wrap includes a trapezoidal base section operative to be wrapped around the neck, shoulder and upper torso area of a user, a hood member for use to cover the head and neck, and two sleeve sections through which a user can selectively slide their arms. In use, the hooded shoulder wrap may be advantageously employed in addition to conventional blankets to optimally cover a user, with the blankets covering the user's entire lower body and lower torso and the hooded shoulder wrap covering the upper torso, shoulders and head/neck.

It is an object of this invention to provide a hooded shoulder wrap which could be selectively worn by a user to provide coverage for their head, neck and shoulders without restriction the user's mobility.

It is another object of this invention to provide a hooded shoulder wrap which includes sleeve sections for receiving and covering a user's arms while still allowing the arms to be moved.

It is yet another object of this invention to provide a hooded shoulder wrap which includes opposing fastenable ends so as to enable a user to selectively enclose their body inside the wrap.

These and other objects will be apparent to one of skill in the art.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring now to the drawings and in particular FIGS. 1 and 2, a hooded shoulder wrap 10 is shown as a base section 11, a hood member 12, and two sleeve sections 13. In the preferred embodiment, the base section 11 defines an elongated, trapezoidal shaped member which is operative to be wrapped around the upper body of a user. An upper edge 11a of the base section, defined by the presence of the hood member 12, is shorter in length than an opposing lower edge 11b as it is contemplated that when the hooded shoulder wrap 10 is in place on a user, the upper edge 11a would extend around the user's neck while the lower edge 11b would extend around the shoulders and upper torso. The base section 11 additionally includes opposing side edges 11c, each of which include a plurality of zipper teeth 14 and form opposing sections of a conventional zip fastener system. It is appreciated that the hooded shoulder wrap 10 may be moved from an open configuration to a closed configuration when the side edges 11c are placed adjacent to one another and the zipper teeth 14 are fastened together in accordance with the zip fastener system.

The hood member 12 defines a conventional hood style headgear which covers mainly the sides and top of a wearer's head, and leaves their face mostly or partly open. It is contemplated that when the hooded shoulder wrap 10 is in place on a wearer, the hood member 12 may be selectively flipped on or off the wearer's head.

The two sleeve sections 13 define mirror image tubular portions which extend from the base section 11. When the hooded shoulder wrap 10 is in place on a user, the sleeve sections 13 allow the user to selectively pass one or both arms from inside the hooded shoulder wrap 10 all the way to the outside of the hooded shoulder wrap 10 while keeping the arm(s) substantially covered. Accordingly, a wearer may easily reach for and/or grab items without having to partially or fully remove the hooded shoulder wrap 10, as would be the case with conventional blankets.

In use, it is contemplated that the hooded shoulder wrap 10 may be advantageously employed in a health care setting, such as a hospital, to allow a user to cover their upper body while in a bed or chair without restricting mobility. To optimally cover a user, the hooded shoulder wrap 10 may be employed in addition to conventional blankets, with the blankets covering the user's entire lower body and lower torso and the hooded shoulder wrap 10 covering the upper torso, shoulders and head/neck.

In one embodiment, the hooded shoulder wrap 10 includes an interior which is lined with a fleece material

The instant invention has been shown and described herein in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.

Claims

1. A hooded shoulder wrap, comprising:

an elongated base section having an upper edge, a lower edge, and opposing side edges, wherein the elongated base section is adapted to partially cover an upper torso of a user;

a hood member integral with the base section and positioned to extend beyond the upper edge; and

at least one sleeve section defining a tubular body which extends from the base section.

2. The hooded shoulder wrap of claim 1, wherein two mirror image sleeve sections extend from said base section.

3. The hooded shoulder wrap of claim 1, wherein said upper edge is shorter in length than the lower edge.

4. The hooded shoulder wrap of claim 1, wherein the opposing side edges include opposing sections of a fastener system, thereby enabling the opposing side edges to be releasably fastened together so as to configure the hooded shoulder wrap to be moved from an open configuration to a closed configuration.

5. A hooded shoulder wrap, comprising:

an elongated base section having an upper edge, a lower edge, and opposing side edges, wherein two mirror image sleeve sections extend from said base section, wherein the elongated base section is adapted to partially cover an upper torso of a user;

a hood member integral with the base section and positioned to extend beyond the upper edge; and

a pair of mirror image sleeves, wherein each sleeve defines a tubular body which extends from the base section.

The hooded shoulder wrap of claim 5, wherein the opposing side edges include opposing sections of a fastener system, thereby enabling the opposing side edges to be releasably fastened together so as to configure the hooded shoulder wrap to be moved from an open configuration to a closed configuration.
