The subject matter described herein includes a hockey target training system comprising at least one hockey training target comprising a) at least one target holder; and b) a target panel comprising a target panel, wherein the target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area, and wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present disclosure is in the field of hockey training target systems and methods for practicing hockey shots on goal using the same.

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

In the market today, hockey training targets are of various types. For example, certain devices are capable of attaching to the frame of the hockey goal. However, such devices lack one or more important features, such as a hockey training target that has the capability of being moved around the perimeter of the hockey goal net area to different locations and the interior of the hockey goal. The devices available on the market today consist mainly of tarps with target areas marked on the tarp or cut out target areas. Alternatively, include corner nets or targets for corner shots.

Furthermore, the hockey target devices on the market today are limited to unmovable target areas mainly limited to the four corners and in some instances a target area in the center of the hockey target device. In this aspect, increased accuracy may be achieved during hockey practice on goal with smaller targets that can be positioned anywhere within a hockey goal area.

In light of these difficulties, there exists a long felt need for a hockey training target system, a method for practicing hockey shots on goal using same.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The subject matter described herein includes a hockey target training systems comprising at least one hockey training target comprising a) at least one target holder; and b) a target panel, wherein the target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area, and wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice.

The subject matter described herein further includes methods of hockey goal practice with a hockey target training systems described herein, comprising the steps of: a) obtaining at least one target holder; and b) obtaining a target panel; c) connecting the target holder to a hockey goal frame member; d) connecting the target holder to the target panel; and e) positioning the target panel in a desired position in a hockey goal area, wherein a target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area, and wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS

The following is a detailed description of certain specific embodiments of the hockey training target system disclosed herein. In this description reference is made to the drawings.

DEFINITIONS

For the purposes of this specification and appended claims, unless otherwise indicated, all numbers expressing quantities, percentages or proportions, and other numerical values used in the specification and claims, are to be understood as being modified in all instances by the term “about.” Accordingly, unless indicated to the contrary, the numerical parameters set forth in the following specification and attached claims are approximations that can vary depending upon the desired properties sought to be obtained. It is noted that, as used in this specification and the appended claims, the singular forms “a,” “an,” and “the,” include plural references unless expressly and unequivocally limited to one referent. As used herein, the term “include” and its grammatical variants are intended to be non-limiting, such that recitation of items in a list is not to the exclusion of other like items that can be substituted or added to the listed items. As used herein, the term “comprising” means including elements or steps that are identified following that term, but any such elements or steps are not exhaustive, and an embodiment can include other elements or steps.

The term “target panel”, refers to a target panel 114 as depicted with FIGS. 1-5, the target panel 114 is in the shape of an inverted saucer with a concave rim 120 with a diameter of between about 2 inches to about 6 inches and a thickness of between about 0.5 inches to about 2 inches. For example, the target panel may be a clay shooting target or a target with a similar shape. The target panel may be comprised of a pitch and pulverized limestone rock, clay, biodegradable materials, compostable materials, rubber, plastic, Styrofoam™, metal, paper, wood or a combination thereof.

INTRODUCTION

In one aspect, disclosed herein are hockey target training systems comprising at least one hockey training target comprising: a) at least one target holder; and b) a target panel comprising a target panel, wherein a target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area, and wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice.

Referring to the drawings, FIGS. 1A-1E are illustrations depicting an example of a hockey training target 100 comprising the flexible cord 102, two straps and/or clamps 106 and a target mount 104 holding a target panel 114. The hockey training target 100 employs one or more straps and/or clamps 106 to connect a strut 108 to a hockey goal horizontal frame member 302 and/or vertical frame members 304 as shown in FIG. 3A. In this aspect, FIG. 3A is an illustration depicting a front view of an example of a hockey training target 100 connected on a horizontal frame member 302 and vertical frame members 304 comprising a flexible cord 102, at least one strap and/or clamp 106 a target panel mount 104 holding a target panel 114.

In some embodiments, the at least one hockey training target comprises: a) the target holder, comprises i. at least one clamp and/or at least one strap; ii. at least one strut; iii. at least one cord; iv. at least one target mount; and b) a target panel, wherein the at least one strut is connected to at least one vertical and/or a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with at least one strap, wherein a target mount is attached to a cord on one terminal end of the cord and the cord is attached to a strut at the opposite terminal end of the cord, wherein the target mount is capable of holding the target panel in a selected position in the hockey goal net area, and wherein the impact from the hockey puck is capable of shattering at least one target panel.

The strut 108 may be constructed of plastic, carbon fiber, metal, rubber or a combination thereof. Moreover, the shape of the strut may be a flexible or rigid open tube section capable of fitting around a hockey goal horizontal frame member 302 and/or vertical frame members 304. In some embodiments, the strut is a half circle shape capable of flexing to accommodate hockey goalie net frame members with a diameter of between about 0.5 inches to 2 inches. In some embodiments, the at least one strut is secured to a hockey goalie net frame member with at least one clamp and/or strap, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured to fit tightly over the strut and around the frame member and is capable of holding the strut in a stationary position, and wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap comprises a length of nylon and/or fabric, plastic, metal, rubber or a combination thereof.

As illustrated in the drawings, FIGS. 1A, 1B and 3A show the strut 108 is connected to a hockey goal horizontal frame member 302 and/or vertical frame members 304, with at least one strap and/or clamp 106, whereby the strap and/or clamp is secured with at least one strut fastener 128 comprising at least one hook and loop 130, at least one pair of hooks 132, one or more buttons 116 and button holes 118. In some embodiments, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured to fit tightly over the vertical and/or the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured with a hook and loop, a pair of hooks, one or more buttons and/or one or more snaps, and when looped around the frame member are attached to themselves and the strut is connected to the frame member. In some embodiments, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured to fit tightly over the vertical and/or the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured with a one or more buttons comprising a button hole and button, and when looped around the frame member are attached to themselves and the strut is connected to the frame member.

Referring to FIGS. 1A and 1B, the flexible cord 102 is connected to the strut 108 and target mount 104, whereby the cord 102 has male threads 122 at each terminal end of the cord capable of being mated with a strut's female threads 110 and a target mount's female threads 112, thereby securing the cord to the strut and the target mount 104 at each terminal end of the cord. For example, the cord 102 may be comprised of Gear Cobra™, Black or Orange bendable steel wire coated with flexible plastic and modified with male threads 122. In some embodiments, the flexible cord 102 is connected to the strut 108 and target mount 104, with at least one clamp, nut and bolt, glue or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, wherein the at least one cord is flexible and capable of holding the target panel in a selected stationary position in the hockey goalie area, wherein the flexible cord allows the position of the target panel to be repositioned to receive an impact from a hockey puck from a variety of positions within the hockey goal net area. In some embodiments, wherein at least one cord comprises a bendable steel wire and is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position, wherein the cord is attached to about the center of the outer circumference of the strut and about the center of the target holder with a clamp, nut and bolt, c-clip or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, wherein at least one cord comprises a bendable steel wire coated with flexible plastic and is threaded at the terminal end and at about the center of the target holder are female threads capable of accepting the threads of the cord, thereby connecting the cord to the target holder.

Referring to drawings, FIGS. 1A and 1B illustrate a target mount 104 comprised of a semi-flexible or flexible flat square or rectangular component capable of flexing to fit tightly between the concave rim 120 of a target panel 114. The target mount 104 may be constructed from plastic, carbon fiber, metal, rubber or combinations thereof. Moreover, the target holder length 126 between the target mount ends 124 is about 0.1 mm to about 50 mm longer than an inner diameter of the concave rim 120 of a target panel 114. In some embodiments, wherein the target mount is a flexible flat rectangular or flexible square shape and is comprised of rubber, plastic, metal, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, wherein the target mount is a flexible flat rectangular or flexible square flexible rubber, plastic or metal plate that capable of bending or buckling to fit tightly against a inner concave rim of the target panel, wherein the buckling of the target mount applies pressure to the inner concave rim of the target panel, thereby securing the target mount to the target panel.

Referring to FIG. 3A, the hockey training target system 300 may comprise more than one hockey training target 100 connected to a hockey goal frame in a variety of positions along the hockey goal horizontal frame member 302 and/or vertical frame members 304. Moreover, the cord 102 enables the target panel 114 to be placed in a stationary position anywhere within the hockey goal area as illustrated with FIG. 3A with the use of the flexible cord 102.

Referring to the drawings, FIGS. 2A and 2B are illustrations depicting an example of a hockey training target 200 comprising a retractable locking reel 204 capable of extending the length of a retractable cable 208. In some embodiments, wherein the retractable locking reel comprises a retractable cable capable of being pulled to unreel a desired length of cable, wherein a ratchet locking latch, spring return drive or similar mechanism that allows the length of the cable to be adjusted to a desired length and locked in a selected position within the hockey goalie net area. For example, the retractable locking reel may be a Cobra MKII, comprising a 1.25 m retractable cable 208 with a housing diameter of about 82 mm, housing depth about 30 mm and including strap or clamp a depth of about 42 mm. As depicted in FIGS. 2A and 2B, the ratchet locking latch, spring return drive 214 or similar mechanism employed to increase and decrease the length of 208 while being capable of remaining locked in position. In some embodiments, further comprising that a fastener at a terminal end the retractable cable that is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goalie net area, and wherein the retractable cable allows the position of the target panel to be changed to receive an impact from a hockey puck from a variety of positions within the hockey goal net area.

In some embodiments, the at least one hockey training target comprises: a) at least one target holder, comprising i. a retractable locking reel comprising a retractable cable and at least one strap; and ii. at least one target mount; and b) a target panel, wherein the target mount is connected to the terminal end of the retractable cable and the target mount is capable of holding the target panel at a selected vertical distance below a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member, wherein the retractable cable is capable of locking at a selected length relative to the position of the retractable reel, wherein the retractable locking reel is connected to the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with the at least one strap, and wherein the impact from the hockey puck is capable of shattering at least one target panel.

FIGS. 2A and 2B are illustrations depicting a front view of an example of a hockey training target 200 comprising the retractable cord 208, at least one clamp and/or strap 202 and a target mount 212 holding a target panel 114. In some embodiments, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap 202 comprises a length of nylon and/or fabric, plastic, metal or rubber or combination thereof. Referring to FIGS. 2A and 2B, the at least one clamp and/or strap 202 is secured with a hook and loop 206, a pair of hooks, one or more buttons and/or one or more snaps. In some embodiments, wherein the retractable locking reel is connected to a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with at least one clamp or strap, wherein the at least one clamp or strap is secured to fit tightly around the frame member and is capable of holding the retractable locking reel in a stationary position. In some embodiments, wherein the at least one clamp or strap is secured to fit tightly around the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member, wherein the at least one clamp or strap is secured with a hook and loop, a pair of hooks, one or more buttons and/or one or more snaps, and when looped around the frame member are attached to themselves and the retractable locking reel is connected to the frame member in a stationary position.

Referring to the drawings, FIGS. 2A and 2B illustrate a fastener 210 at the terminal end of the retractable cable 208, capable of connecting or being attached to a target mount 212 comprising an alligator clip or a clamp. The fastener 210 may be a hook and loop, clip, locking ring or similarly suitable fastener employed on the terminal end of retractable cables used with the small retractable locking reels available in the market as described herein. In some embodiments, wherein the terminal end the retractable cable comprises a target mount 212 that is selected from an alligator clip, a clamp, or a flexible flat rectangular or a flexible flat square flexible rubber, plastic or metal plate. FIGS. 1A and 1B illustrate a target mount 104 comprised of a semi-flexible or flexible flat square or rectangular component capable of flexing to fit tightly between the concave rim 120 of a target panel, and it is understood that the target mount 104 may be substituted for the target mount 212 of the hockey target training system 200. In some embodiments, wherein the target mount is a flexible flat rectangular or flexible square flexible rubber, plastic or metal plate that capable of bending or buckling to fit tightly against a inner concave rim of the target panel, wherein the buckling of the target mount applies pressure to the inner concave rim of the target panel, thereby securing the target mount to the target panel.

Referring to the drawings, FIG. 3B is an illustration of a hockey training target system 400 depicting a front view of an example of the hockey training target 200 connected on a horizontal frame member 302, comprising a retractable cord 208, a strap or clamp 202 and a target mount 212 holding a target panel 114.

Referring to the drawings, FIG. 4A illustrates the use of at least one hockey training target 100 as presented in FIGS. 1A and 1B, and at least one hockey training target 200 as presented in FIGS. 2A and 2B with a strapped shooting tutor 504 whereby one or more shooting tutor straps 502 are capable connecting the shooting tutor to the hockey goal frame. Alternatively, FIG. 4B, illustrates a movable shooting tutor 602, which can be positioned out in front of the hockey goal. In some embodiments, wherein the hockey target training system further comprises a hockey shooting tutor, wherein at least one hockey training target 100 and/or 200 are/is positioned within the shooting tutors holes for practice shots on the hockey goal and wherein the shooting tutor can be strapped to the hockey goal frame or the shooting tutor can be positioned out in front of the hockey goal and moved side to side to cut off shooting angles.

In another aspect, disclosed herein are methods of hockey goal practice with a hockey target training system, wherein the at least one hockey training target comprises: a) the target holder, comprises i. at least one clamp and/or at least one strap; ii. at least one strut; iii. at least one cord; iv. at least one target mount; and b) a target panel, wherein the at least one strut is connected to at least one vertical and/or a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with at least one strap, wherein a target mount is attached to a cord on one terminal end of the cord and the cord is attached to a strut at the opposite terminal end of the cord, and wherein the target mount is capable of holding the target panel in a selected position in the hockey goal net area, comprising the steps of: a) obtaining at least one target holder; and b) obtaining a target panel; c) connecting the target holder to a hockey goal frame member; d) connecting the target holder to the target panel; and e) positioning the target panel in a desired position in a hockey goal area, wherein a target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area, wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice, and wherein the impact from the hockey puck is capable of shattering at least one target panel.

In yet another aspect, disclosed herein are methods of hockey goal practice with a hockey target training system, wherein the at least one hockey training target comprises: a) at least one target holder, comprising i. a retractable locking reel comprising a retractable cable and at least one strap; and ii. at least one target mount; and b) a target panel, wherein the target mount is connected to the terminal end of the retractable cable and the target mount is capable of holding the target panel at a selected vertical distance below a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member, wherein the retractable cable is capable of locking at a selected length relative to the position of the retractable reel, and wherein the retractable locking reel is connected to the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with the at least one strap, comprising the steps of: a) obtaining at least one target holder; and b) obtaining a target panel; c) connecting the target holder to a hockey goal frame member; d) connecting the target holder to the target panel; and e) positioning the target panel in a desired position in a hockey goal area, wherein a target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area, wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice, and wherein the impact from the hockey puck is capable of shattering at least one target panel.

In some embodiments, the disclosure relates to a training aid for practicing hockey shots on goal with the advantage of incentivizing the improvement of the accuracy with the use of the disclosed hockey training target systems via the shattering or smashing of one or more clay shooting targets with a hockey puck. In some embodiments, accuracy of practice hockey shots on goal is improved with the reward of shattering or smashing one or more clay shooting targets with a hockey puck with each shot on goal. In some embodiments, the clay shooting targets are biodegradable and/or decomposable. In some embodiments, the clay shooting targets are environmentally friendly. In some embodiments, the clay shooting targets are pollution free and non-toxic to the environment. This invention has particular application to a training aid that one or more persons may use, either individually or collectively, to practice one or more skills required to practice shots on a hockey goal. It will be appreciated that the training devices of the present disclosure may have application to playing games other than hockey.

The presently disclosed hockey training target systems are not to be limited in scope by the specific embodiments described herein, which are intended as single illustrations of individual aspects of the presently disclosed devices and methods, and functionally equivalent devices, methods and components are within the scope of the presently disclosed hockey training target systems. Indeed, various modifications of the presently disclosed hockey training target systems, in addition to those shown and described herein will become apparent to those skilled in the art from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings. Such modifications are intended to fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Claims

1. A hockey target training system comprising at least one hockey training target comprising:

a) at least one target holder; and
b) a target panel,
wherein the target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area, and
wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice.

2. The hockey target training system of claim 1, wherein the at least one hockey training target comprises:

a) the target holder, comprises i. at least one clamp and/or at least one strap; ii. at least one strut; iii. at least one cord; iv. at least one target mount; and
b) a target panel,
wherein the at least one strut is connected to at least one vertical and/or a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with at least one strap,
wherein a target mount is attached to a cord on one terminal end of the cord and the cord is attached to a strut at the opposite terminal end of the cord,
wherein the target mount is capable of holding the target panel in a selected position in the hockey goal net area, and
wherein the impact from the hockey puck is capable of shattering at least one target panel.

3. The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein the strut is a half circle shape capable of flexing to accommodate hockey goalie net frame members with a diameter of between about 0.5 inches to 2 inches.

The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein the at least one strut is secured to a hockey goalie net frame member with at least one clamp and/or strap, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured to fit tightly over the strut and around the frame member and is capable of holding the strut in a stationary position, and wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap comprises a length of nylon and/or fabric, plastic, metal, rubber or a combination thereof.

The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured to fit tightly over the vertical and/or the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap is secured with a hook and loop, a pair of hooks, one or more buttons and/or one or more snaps, and when looped around the frame member are attached to themselves and the strut is connected to the frame member.

The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein the at least one cord is flexible and capable of holding the target panel in a selected stationary position in the hockey goalie area, wherein the flexible cord allows the position of the target panel to be repositioned to receive an impact from a hockey puck from a variety of positions within the hockey goal net area.

The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein at least one cord comprises a bendable steel wire and is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position, wherein the cord is attached to about the center of the outer circumference of the strut and about the center of the target mount with a clamp, nut and bolt, c-clip or a combination thereof.

The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein at least one cord comprises a bendable steel wire coated with flexible plastic and is threaded at the terminal end and at about the center of the target mount are female threads capable of accepting the threads of the cord, thereby connecting the cord to the target mount.

9. The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein the target panel is comprised of rubber, plastic, compostable material, biodegradable material and/or a clay shooting target.

The hockey target training system of claim 2, wherein the target mount is a flexible flat rectangular or flexible square flexible rubber, plastic or metal plate that capable of bending or buckling to fit tightly against a inner concave rim of the target panel, wherein the buckling of the target mount applies pressure to the inner concave rim of the target panel, thereby securing the target mount to the target panel.

11. The hockey target training system of claim 1, wherein the at least one hockey training target comprises:

a) at least one target holder, comprising i. a retractable locking reel comprising a retractable cable and at least one strap; and ii. at least one target mount; and
b) a target panel,
wherein the target mount is connected to the terminal end of the retractable cable and the target mount is capable of holding the target panel at a selected vertical distance below a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member,
wherein the retractable cable is capable of locking at a selected length relative to the position of the retractable reel,
wherein the retractable locking reel is connected to the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with the at least one strap, and
wherein the impact from the hockey puck is capable of shattering at least one target panel.

12. The hockey target training system of claim 11, wherein the at least one clamp and/or strap comprises a length of nylon and/or fabric, plastic, metal or rubber or combination thereof.

13. The hockey target training system of claim 11, wherein the retractable locking reel is connected to a horizontal hockey goalie net frame member with at least one clamp or strap, wherein the at least one clamp or strap is secured to fit tightly around the frame member and is capable of holding the retractable locking reel in a stationary position.

14. The hockey target training system of claim 11, wherein the at least one clamp or strap is secured to fit tightly around the horizontal hockey goalie net frame member, wherein the at least one clamp or strap is secured with a hook and loop, a pair of hooks, one or more buttons and/or one or more snaps, and when looped around the frame member are attached to themselves and the retractable locking reel is connected to the frame member in a stationary position.

The hockey target training system of claim 11, wherein the retractable locking reel comprises a retractable cable capable of being pulled to unreel a desired length of cable, wherein a ratchet locking latch, spring return drive or similar mechanism that allows the length of the cable to be adjusted to a desired length and locked in a selected position within the hockey goalie net area.

16. The hockey target training system of claim 11, further comprising that a fastener at a terminal end the retractable cable that is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goalie net area, and wherein the retractable cable allows the position of the target panel to be changed to receive an impact from a hockey puck from a variety of positions within the hockey goal net area.

17. The hockey target training system of claim 16, wherein the target panel is comprised of rubber, plastic, compostable material, biodegradable material and/or a clay shooting target.

The hockey target training system of claim 11, wherein the target mount is a flexible flat rectangular or flexible square flexible rubber, plastic or metal plate that capable of bending or buckling to fit tightly against a inner concave rim of the target panel, wherein the buckling of the target mount applies pressure to the inner concave rim of the target panel, thereby securing the target mount to the target panel.

19. The hockey target training system according to claim 1 or 11, wherein the hockey target training system further comprises a hockey shooting tutor, wherein at least one hockey training target of claim 1 and/or claim 12 is positioned at the shooting tutors holes for practice shots on the hockey goal and wherein the shooting tutor can be strapped to the hockey goal frame or the shooting tutor can be positioned out in front of the hockey goal and moved side to side to cut off shooting angles.

20. A method of hockey goal practice with a hockey target training system of claim 1, comprising the steps of:

a) obtaining at least one target holder; and
b) obtaining a target panel;
c) connecting the target holder to a hockey goal frame member;
d) connecting the target holder to the target panel; and
e) positioning the target panel in a desired position in a hockey goal area,
wherein a target holder is capable of holding the target panel in a stationary position in the hockey goal net area,
wherein the target panel is configured within a hockey goal to receive an impact from a hockey puck during hockey practice, and
wherein the impact from the hockey puck is capable of shattering at least one target panel.
