Portable Basketball Hoop System

Abstract

A portable basketball hoop system includes a door and a mounting unit that is removably suspended from the door. The mounting unit has a slidably adjustable length. A basketball goal is provided. The basketball goal has a backboard and a hoop. The backboard is coupled to the mounting unit and the hoop may have a ball thrown therethrough.

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

Field of the Disclosure

The disclosure relates to basketball hoop devices and more particularly pertains to a new basketball hoop device for positioning a basketball hoop at a selected height on a door.

SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a door and a mounting unit that is removably suspended from the door. The mounting unit has a slidably adjustable length. A basketball goal is provided. The basketball goal has a backboard and a hoop. The backboard is coupled to the mounting unit and the hoop may have a ball thrown therethrough.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new basketball hoop device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the portable basketball hoop system 10 generally comprises a door 12 that has a top edge 14 and a first surface 16. The door 12 may be a door in a house or the like. A mounting unit 18 is removably suspended from the door 12 and the mounting unit 18 has a slidably adjustable length.

The mounting unit 18 comprises a mount 20 that has a lateral arm 22 and a longitudinal arm 24. The longitudinal arm 24 is coupled to and extends away from the lateral arm 22. The longitudinal arm 24 is centrally positioned on the lateral arm 22. The lateral arm 22 has a first end 26 and a second end 28.

The mount 20 includes a pair of hooks 30. Each of the hooks 30 has a central member 32 extending between a pair of end members 34. The end members 34 corresponding to each of the hooks 30 are spaced apart from each other to define a space 36 in the corresponding hook 30. One of the end members 34 corresponding to each of the hooks 30 is coupled to and extends upwardly from the lateral arm 22. Each of the hooks 30 extends away from the lateral arm at a right angle.

Each of hooks 30 is positioned adjacent to an associated one of the first end 26 and the second end 28 of the lateral arm 22. The mount 20 engages the door 12 such that the top edge 14 of the door 12 is positioned within the space 36 in each of the hooks 30. Thus, the longitudinal arm 24 extends downwardly along the first surface 16. The longitudinal arm 24 may have a length ranging between thirty cm and sixty cm.

The mounting unit 18 further includes a member 38 that has a top end 40 and a bottom end 42. The top end 40 is open and the member 38 is substantially hollow. The top end 40 insertably receives the longitudinal arm 24 such that the member 38 is slidably coupled to the mount 20. The member 38 is positionable at a selected point along the longitudinal arm 24. A screw 42 extends through the member 38 and the screw 42 may be manipulated. The screw 42 selectively engages the longitudinal arm 24 such that the member 38 is retained at the selected point along the longitudinal arm 24.

A basketball goal 44 is provided. The basketball goal 44 has a backboard 46 and a hoop 48. The backboard 46 is coupled to the mounting unit 18 and the hoop 48 may have a ball 50 thrown therethrough. The ball 50 may be a basketball or the like.

The backboard 46 has a back side 52 and a front side 54. The hoop 48 is coupled to the front side 54 and the back side 52 is coupled to the member 38. Thus, the basketball goal 44 may be positioned a selected distance from a support surface 56 when the mounting unit 18 is suspended from the door 12. The support surface 56 may be a floor or the like. The backboard 46 is positioned proximate the bottom end 42 of the member 38. The hoop 48 extends away from the first surface 16 of the door 12 when the mounting unit 18 is suspended from the door 12.

In use, the mounting unit 18 is suspended from the door 12 such that the top edge 58 of the door 12 is positioned within said space 36 in each of the hooks 30. The member 38 and the basketball goal 44 are slid along the longitudinal arm 24 such that the hoop 48 is positioned a selected distance from the support surface 56. The screw 42 is manipulated to retain the hoop 48 at the selected distance from the support surface 56. Thus, the basketball goal 44 is positionable to accommodate a variety of user heights. The ball 50 is thrown through the hoop 48 in the convention of the game of basketball.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, system and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims

1. A portable basketball hoop system comprising:

a door;

a mounting unit being removably suspended from said door, said mounting unit having a slidably adjustable length; and

a basketball goal having a backboard and a hoop, said backboard being coupled to said mounting unit wherein said hoop is configured to have a ball thrown therethrough.

2. The system according to claim 1, wherein said mounting unit comprises a mount having a lateral arm and a longitudinal arm, said longitudinal arm being coupled to and extending away from said lateral arm, said longitudinal arm being centrally positioned on said lateral arm, said lateral arm having a first end and a second end, said mount including a pair of hooks.

3. The system according to claim 2, wherein each of said hooks has a central member extending between a pair of end members, said end members corresponding to each of said hooks being spaced apart from each other to define a space in each of hooks, one of said end members corresponding to each of said hooks being coupled to and extending upwardly from said lateral arm.

4. The system according to claim 3, wherein:

said door has a top edge and a first surface; and

each of hooks being positioned adjacent to an associated one of said first end and said second end, said mount engaging said door such that said top edge of said door is positioned within said space in each of said hooks having said longitudinal arm extending downwardly along said first surface.

5. The system according to claim 2, further comprising a member having a top end and a bottom end, said top end being open, said member being substantially hollow, said top end insertably receiving said longitudinal arm such that said member is slidably coupled to said mount, said member being positionable at a selected point along said longitudinal arm.

6. The system according to claim 5, further comprising a screw extending through said member wherein said screw is configured to be manipulated, said screw selectively engaging said longitudinal arm such that said member is retained at said selected point along said longitudinal arm.

7. The system according to claim 1, wherein:

said door has a first surface;

said mounting unit includes a member, said member having a bottom end; and

said backboard has a back side and a front side, said hoop being coupled to said front side, said back side being coupled to said member such that said basketball goal is configured to be positioned a selected distance from a support surface when said mounting unit is suspended from said door, said backboard being positioned proximate said bottom end of said member, said hoop extending away from said first surface of said door when said mounting unit is suspended from said door.

8. A portable basketball hoop system comprising:

a door having a top edge and a first surface;

a mounting unit being removably suspended from said door, said mounting unit having a slidably adjustable length, said mounting unit comprising: a mount having a lateral arm and a longitudinal arm, said longitudinal arm being coupled to and extending away from said lateral arm, said longitudinal arm being centrally positioned on said lateral arm, said lateral arm having a first end and a second end, said mount including a pair of hooks, each of said hooks having a central member extending between a pair of end members, said end members corresponding to each of said hooks being spaced apart from each other to define a space in each of hooks, one of said end members corresponding to each of said hooks being coupled to and extending upwardly from said lateral arm, each of hooks being positioned adjacent to an associated one of said first end and said second end, said mount engaging said door such that said top edge of said door is positioned within said space in each of said hooks having said longitudinal arm extending downwardly along said first surface, a member having a top end and a bottom end, said top end being open, said member being substantially hollow, said top end insertably receiving said longitudinal arm such that said member is slidably coupled to said mount, said member being positionable at a selected point along said longitudinal arm, and a screw extending through said member wherein said screw is configured to be manipulated, said screw selectively engaging said longitudinal arm such that said member is retained at said selected point along said longitudinal arm; and

a basketball goal having a backboard and a hoop, said backboard being coupled to said mounting unit wherein said hoop is configured to have a ball thrown therethrough, said backboard having a back side and a front side, said hoop being coupled to said front side, said back side being coupled to said member such that said basketball goal is configured to be positioned a selected distance from a support surface when said mounting unit is suspended from said door, said backboard being positioned proximate said bottom end of said member, said hoop extending away from said first surface of said door when said mounting unit is suspended from said door.
