CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/414,226 filed on Oct. 28, 2016. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to fitted bedding linens, as well as bed skirts. More specifically, the present invention provides a fitted mattress cover and affixed to a bed skirt with storage pockets on the lateral sides thereof.

Traditional fitted mattress covers envelope the mattress and require that the mattress be lifted for the fitted sheet to be pulled over the edges and tucked underneath. Lifting the mattress can require multiple people to achieve in a safe manner. Additionally, elderly or disabled individuals may not be able to physically lift a mattress to adequately put on the fitted sheet.

Bed skirts, also known as dust ruffles, are used to conceal the area underneath a bed, or to give a decorative aesthetic to the traditional bed setup. It is common for bed skirts to be attached with fasteners to the bed frame. This can be visually displeasing as well as an inconvenience. Therefore, there exists a need for a fitted mattress cover that can be slipped on over a mattress wherein a bed skirt is attached to the mattress cover along the edges thereof.

In light of the devices disclosed in the known art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the known art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to existing forms of fitted bed sheets and skirts. In this regard, the instant invention substantially fulfills these needs.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of fitted mattress covers now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a mattress cover with an affixed bed skirt wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when securing the mattress cover and bed skirt in place.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new fitted mattress cover and bed skirt combination that has all the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a fitted mattress cover and bed skirt combination comprising a fitted mattress cover configured to cover the sleeping surface of a mattress and the lateral sides thereof, wherein the fitted mattress cover terminates in an outer edge with a defined channel having a bed skirt attached thereto.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a fitted mattress cover and bed skirt combination wherein one or more pockets are sewn into the lateral sides of the fitted mattress cover toward the head of the mattress.

It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a fitted mattress cover and bed skirt combination wherein an elastic band on the outside of the channel defined in the outer edge holds the sides of the mattress cover and bed skirt in place.

Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.

FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the mattress cover and bed skirt combination with storage pockets.

FIG. 2 shows a cross-sectional view of an embodiment of the mattress cover and bed skirt combination in use.

FIG. 3 shows a close-up view of an embodiment of the storage pockets of the mattress cover and bed skirt combination.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the fitted mattress cover and bed skirt combination. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the mattress cover and bed skirt combination with storage pockets. The mattress cover and bed skirt combination 11 comprises a fitted mattress cover 12 configured to enclose the upper surface and lateral sides of a mattress. In the illustrated embodiment, the mattress cover 12 includes a sidewall 14 that contours away from an upper surface 13 thereof to form an enclosure having four corners 15 and an outer edge 16. The outer edge 16 of the mattress cover 12 comprises a channel 18. In the illustrated embodiment, the channel 18 extends around the lateral sides and the foot end 28 of the mattress cover 12. The channel 18 does not extend along the head 25 of the mattress cover 12.

A bed skirt 17 is affixed to the outer edge 14 of the mattress cover 12 via the channel 18. In the illustrated embodiment, the bed skirt 17 comprises a sheet of material that completely extends the length of the lateral sides 24, 25 and the foot end 28 of the mattress cover 12. The bed skirt 17 is disposed within the channel 18 of the outer edge 14 of the fitted mattress cover 12. The bed skirt 13 is attached in a manner as to cover the foot end 28 and lateral sides 24, 25 of a traditional bed frame 19. The bed skirt 13 comprises a length adapted to extend down toward the floor to conceal the space directly beneath the bed frame 19.

Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a cross-sectional view of an embodiment of the fitted mattress cover and bed skirt combination in use. The channel 18 in the outer edge 14 of the fitted mattress cover 12 is defined by two folds, an inner fold 21 and an outer fold 20. In the illustrated embodiment, an elastic band 27 in the outer fold 20 secures the fitted mattress cover 12 in place along the lateral sides of the mattress 60 or box spring 61. The elastic band 27 also holds the bed skirt 17 in place, while simultaneously concealing its seem, so that the fitted mattress cover 12 runs flush with the bed skirt 17. In the illustrated embodiment, the bed skirt 17 is secured to the fitted mattress cover 12 within the same channel 18 as the elastic band 27. The bed skirt 17 is sewn directly to the inner fold 21 such that the channel 18 is closed and the elastic band 27 and the upper end of the bed skirt 17 are enclosed therein.

Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a close-up view of embodiment pocket of the fitted mattress cover and bed skirt combination. One or more pockets 26 are secured to the lateral sides of the fitted mattress cover 12. In the illustrated embodiment, a pair of pockets 26 are each positioned on opposing lateral sides of the fitted mattress cover, along the head end thereof. The head end of the fitted mattress cover 12 is the side of the cover 12 that opposes the foot end. The opening of each pocket 26 is parallel to the channel of the fitted mattress cover and faces opposite the channel.

In the illustrated embodiment, the bottom and sides of each pocket 26 are sealed with a seam while the top is not sealed, defining an opened enclosure. The pocket 26 having sufficient volume within the enclosure to hold small electronics, such as television remotes and cellphones, and other accessories. In an alternate embodiment of the present invention, the top of the pocket 26 is also closeable using any appropriate fasteners such as loop and hook fasteners, buttons, zippers, etc.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in various embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
