A Hat with a Removable Brim
A hat comprising: a crown, a detachable brim made substantially from plastic and a central link which is secured to the crown wherein the hat is formed such that the brim protrudes outwardly from the crown and wherein the brim is able to releasably engage with the central link such that in use a user can remove and replace the brim.
The invention generally relates to a hat with a removable brim. More particularly it relates to a hat with a removable brim which is made substantially from plastic.
BACKGROUNDBrims for hats are typically made from cardboard which is wrapped in fabric and then permanently fixed to the crown of a hat. Many users would like to be able to change the style of brim on a hat by replacing it with another style of brim but are unable to do so with brims which are permanently fixed to hats.
It is an object of a preferred form of the present invention to go at least some way towards addressing this problem. While this is an object of a preferred embodiment, it should not be seen as a limitation on the scope of the invention as claimed. The object of the invention per se is simply to provide the public with a useful choice.
All references, including any patents or patent applications cited in this specification are hereby incorporated by reference. No admission is made that any reference constitutes prior art. The discussion of the references states what their authors assert, and the applicants reserve the right to challenge the accuracy and pertinency of the cited documents. It will be clearly understood that, although a number of prior art publications are referred to herein; this reference does not constitute an admission that any of these documents form part of the common general knowledge in the art, in New Zealand or in any other country.
The term “comprising” and derivatives thereof, eg “comprises”, if and when used herein in relation to a combination of features should not be taken as excluding the possibility that the combination may have further unspecified features. For example, a statement that an arrangement “comprises” certain parts does not mean that it cannot also, optionally, have additional parts.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONAccording to one aspect of the invention there is provided a hat comprising:
-
- a crown;
- a brim made substantially from plastic; and
- a central link being secured to the crown;
the hat formed such that the brim protrudes outwardly from the crown and the brim is able to releasably engage with the central link.
Preferably the central link has a male connecting member and the brim has a female connecting member adapted to receive the male member.
Preferably the brim has a male connecting member and the central link has a female connecting member adapted to receive the male member.
Preferably the male connecting member is an elongate member and the female member is a slot adapted to receive the elongate member.
Preferably the male member has at least one clip and the brim has at least one aperture adapted to receive the clip.
Preferably the central link and brim are configured such that there is a magnetic attraction between them.
Preferably the brim and the central link both have at least one magnet attached to them which are arranged such that they are attracted to each other.
Preferably the brim and the central link have at least two magnets, wherein one of the magnets is larger than the other.
Preferably the central link is generally L-shaped.
Preferably the brim has an inner part and an outer part which are both adapted such that they can releasably engage with each other.
Preferably the brim has at least one medial part between the inner and outer part, the medial part being adapted such that it can releasably engage with the inner and outer parts.
Preferably the parts are able to pivot with respect to each other.
Preferably the outer part has a bottle opener connected to it and the inner or medial part has an aperture adapted to receive and house the bottle opener.
Preferably the outer part of the brim is made substantially from wood or metal.
Preferably the brim is capable of being adjusted in length.
Preferably the brim is fluorescent.
Preferably the brim is transparent.
Preferably the brim or crown has a plastic 3D image protruding from it.
Preferably the hat has a front panel which is:
-
- a) adapted to releasably engage with the central link; or
- b) adapted to releasably engage with the central link and crown.
Preferably the brim has at least one battery or solar powered light on it.
Preferably the brim is adapted to releasably engage with at least one camera.
Preferably the brim has at least one camera connected to it.
In another aspect there is provided a kit of parts suitable for forming a hat, the kit comprising the crown with central link secured to it and the brim as described above.
These and other features, objects and advantages of the present invention will be readily apparent to persons of ordinary skill in the art upon reading the entirety of this disclosure, which includes the accompanying drawings and claims.
Some preferred embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings and photos, of which:
Referring to
As shown in
In
References to a brim throughout the specification relate to any type of shading device protruding from a crown including a bill, peak, visor etc. It will appreciated by those skilled in the art that the brims can be varied in shape and size. It will be evident that various types of brims can be applied to the same crown and likewise the same brim can be used with various types of crowns.
All the brim parts previously mentioned can come in different interchangeable sizes and are preferably all made substantially from plastic although in some embodiments the distal end or the outer part of the brim can be made from metal or wood.
Reference to plastic throughout the specification includes synthetic material made from a wide range of organic polymers such as polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, nylon, etc, that can be moulded into shape while soft, and then set into a substantially rigid form.
In use a user can remove the brim from the hat and either replace it with another brim or put the same brim back on. In embodiments where the brim has a number of different parts a user can interchange these and as such the present invention allows for users to personalise the brim. The invention allows for brims to be interchangeable and different sports teams could for example sell interchangeable brims with designs for each individual player and these brims could be traded among fans. Companies could also sell or give away brims to advertise their products and/or services.
It is to be understood that even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the various embodiments of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and functioning of various embodiments of the invention, this disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail so long as the functioning of the invention is not adversely affected. For example the particular elements of the crown, brim, central link and front panel may vary dependent on the particular application for which it is used without variation in the spirit and scope of the present invention.
In addition, although the preferred embodiments described herein are directed to a hat with a removable plastic brim, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that variations and modifications are possible within the scope of the appended claims.
