CIGARS WITH FILTERS, AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
In a cigar with a rod composed of a smoking material, a wrapping material encompassing the smoking material rod, and a filter coupled to the tobacco rod, the filter has a pressure drop within a range of between 127.89 mm and 166.11 mm, so that it decreased the toxic effect of tobacco smoke and at the same time reduces resistance to draw and as a result makes it more easier to a smoker to draw.
The present invention relates to cigars with filters and to methods of making the cigars with filters.
Cigars and other tobacco products are well known in the art in many variations. Cigars are frequently provided with filters to remove some contaminants or hazardous components of cigar smoke before the smoke is inhaled. Such tobacco products are disclosed for example in U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,006,346; 3,397,700; 4,063,912; 4,266,561; 4,700,723; 5,228,962; 5,319,114; 5,575,302; 6,257,242; 6,779,529.
Various cigar filters are known in the prior art which are composed of various material and have various constructions. The common features of various filters are that they are made so as to decrease the toxic effect of tobacco smoke.
When compared with cigars which do not have filters, the cigars with filters increase resistance to draw and as a result they are more difficult to a smoker to draw. It is therefore desirable to provide cigars with filters, which make it easier for a smoker to draw.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONAccordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide cigars and methods of making cigars which are further improvements of know cigars and methods of making the same.
More particularly it is an object of the present invention to provide cigars and methods of making cigars with which the cigars provide a lower resistance to draw and thereby make easier for a smoker to draw.
In keeping with these objects and with others which will become apparent hereinafter, one features of the present invention resides briefly stated in a cigar, comprising a rod composed of a smoking material, a wrapping material encompassing the smoking material rod, and a filter coupled to the tobacco rod, wherein the filter has a pressure drop within a range of between 127.89 mm and 166.11 mm.
When the cigars are provided with the filter according to the present invention, they have a decreased the toxic effect of tobacco smoke and at the same time reduced resistance to draw and as a result they are more easy to a smoker to draw.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has a pressure drop of 147.00 mm.
According to a further feature of the present invention the cigar has a length within a range between 99.00 mm and 101.00 mm, and the filter has a length within the range between 40.00 mm and 30 mm.
According to a further feature of the present invention the cigar has a length of 100.00 mm and the filter has a length of 35.00 mm.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has a hardness within a range between 90.00% and 98.00%.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has a hardness of 94.00%.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has an ovality within a range between 0 and 0.65 mm.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has an ovality of 0.35 mm.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has a circumference within a range between 24.8 mm and 24.72 mm.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has a circumference of 24.5 mm.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has a weight within a range between 0.6255 and 0.7640 g.
According to a further feature of the present invention the filter of the cigar has a weight of 0.6850 g.
The novel features of the present invention also reside in a method of making a cigar, comprising the steps of making a rod composed of a smoking material, encompassing the smoking material rod with a wrapping material, and coupling the tobacco rod with a filter having a pressure drop within a range of between 128.00 mm and 166.00 mm.

The cigar 11 has a smoking material which forms a smoking material rod 12. The smoking material of the smoking material rod 12 is usually tobacco or a blond of tobaccos. A wrapping material 13 encompasses the smoking material rod 12 of the cigar and generally it is composed of a tobacco leaf or a tobaccos leaf. The cigar 11 further has a filter 14 to remove harmful components of the smoke produced when the smoking material is burned. However, the filter 14 does not adversely affect the taste of the smoke when a user is smoking the cigar.
The filter 14 coupled to the smoking material rod 12 by a cover 15 surrounding the filter 14 and an adjoining part of the smoking material rod 12. The filter has a pressure drop within a range of between 17.89 mm and 166.11 mm. In particular, the filter 14 coupled to the smoking material rod 12 can have a pressure drop of 147.00 mm. The unit of measure of the pressure drop is mmH2O (mmWG).
The cigar 11 further has a length within a range between 99.00 mm and 101.00 mm, preferably 100.00 mm. The filter 14 of the cigar 11 can have a length within a range of 30.00 mm and 40.00 mm, preferably of 35.00 mm.
The filter 14 coupled to the smoking material rod 12 of the cigar 11 further has a hardness within a range between 90.00% and 98.00%. In particular, the filter 14 of the cigar 11 can have a hardness of 94.00%.
The filter 14 of the cigar has an ovality within a range between 0 and 0.65 mm. In particular the filter 14 of the cigar 11 has an ovality of 0.35 mm.
The filter 14 of the cigar 11 has a circumference within a range between 24.8 mm and 24.72 mm. In particular the filter 14 of the cigar 11 has a circumference of 24.5 mm.
The filter 14 of the cigar has a weight within a range between 0.6255 and 0.7640 g. In particular the filter 14 of the cigar 11 has a weight of 0.6850 g.
All above specified parameters of the filter 14 of the cigar 11 were measured on QTM, a quality testing machine of ESSENTRA Co, of Greensboro, N.C. of the USA.
For making a cigar 11 with the filter 14 according to the present invention conventional steps which are known in the art are used, but the filter is made so that its pressure drop, its length, its hardness, its ovality, its weight are provided with values specified hereinabove.
The filter 14 of the cigar 11 according to the present invention can be made with a tow composed of cellulose acetate supplied by Eastman, a wrapping material of cellulose based paper supplied by Delfort Wattens, an adhesive connecting the wrapping material to the tow and composed of paraffin wax and polyvinyl acetate supplied by Henkel, and in some cases a flavor additive of menthol propylene glycol supplied by Global Essence.
When the cigars 11 are provided with the filter 14 according to the present invention, they have a decreased the toxic effect of tobacco smoke and at the same time reduced resistance to draw and as a result they are more easy for a smoker to draw.
The present invention is not limited to the details shown since various modifications and structural changes are possible without departing from the spirit of the present invention.

Claims
1. A cigar, comprising
- a rod composed of a smoking material;
- a wrapping material encompassing the smoking material rod; and
- a filter coupled to the tobacco rod,
- wherein the filter has a pressure drop within a range of between 127.89 mm and 166.11 mm.
2. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter od the cigar has a pressure drop of 147.00 mm.
3. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the cigar has a length within a range between 99.00 mm and 101.00 mm and the filter of the cigar has a length within a range between 30.00 mm and 40.00 mm.
4. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the cigar has a length of 100.00 mm and the filter of the cigar has a length of 35.00 mm.
5. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has a hardness within a range between 90.00 and 98.00.
6. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has a hardness of 94.00.
7. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter has a length within a range between 99.00 mm and 101.00 mm, and a hardness within a range between 90.00 and 98.00.
8. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has an ovality within a range between 0 and 0.65 mm.
9. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has an ovality of 0.35 mm.
10. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has a circumference within a range between 24.8 mm and 24.72 mm.
11. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has a circumference of 24.5 mm.
12. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has a weight within a range between 0.6255 and 0.7640 g.
13. The cigar of claim 1, wherein the filter of the cigar has a weight of 0.6850 g.
14. A method of making a cigar, comprising the steps of making a rod composed of a smoking material; encompassing the smoking material rod with a wrapping material; and coupling the tobacco rod with a filter having a pressure drop within a range of between 127.89 mm and 166.11 mm.
15. The method of making a cigar of claim 8, wherein the filter has a length within a range between 30.00 mm and 40.00 mm, and a hardness within a range between 90.00 and 98.00.
