CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 62/532,423, filed Jul. 14, 2017, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to sheets for bedding, and more particularly to retention devices for the same.

When making a bed with bedsheets, it is often difficult to obtain a tightly tucked appearance. Moreover, when sleeping or getting into bed, the bedsheets may become untucked, which can lead to the mattress becoming exposed, or discomfort from wrinkled sheets. Accordingly, day after day, an individual may need to remake their bed, with the unpleasant task of having to re-tuck their sheets over and over.

As can be seen, there is a need for a bedsheet retention device that keeps bedsheets in place on a mattress and eliminates the drudgery of remaking the bedsheets day after day.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In one aspect of the present invention a the bedsheet retention device is disclosed. The bedsheet retention device includes a first pair of rings secured by a first strap loop extending through an opening of the first pair of rings and a second pair of rings secured by a second strap loop extending through the opening of the second pair of rings. A strap interconnects the first strap loop and the second strap loop.

The first strap loop and the second strap loop may be formed from a unitary length of strap material, having a first end and a second end joined at an intermediate location between the loops by a fastener. The fastener may include a plurality of stitches. In other embodiments, the fastener may include one or more of a weld, a clamp, or an adhesive. The strap material may be formed of a nylon webbing, leather, a woven fabrics, and a steel band.

In some embodiments, the first pair of rings and the second pair of rings have dissimilar diameters. The first pair of rings and second pairs of rings may be circular. In yet other embodiments, at least one of the first pair of rings and the second pairs of rings are D-shaped.

In other aspects of the invention, a method of securing a bedsheet to a mattress is disclosed. The method includes applying the bedsheet to the mattress. A first bedsheet retention device is applied to the bedsheet by threading a first edge of the bedsheet through a first pair of rings interconnected by a first strap loop. A cinching strap is then threaded through a second pair of rings interconnected by a second strap loop, wherein the first strap loop and the second strap loop are interconnected by a common strap. A second bedsheet retention device to an opposite side edge of the bedsheet. The bedsheet is brought taught, by tightening a free end of the cinching strap to apply tension on the first bedsheet retention device and the second bedsheet retention device to draw the opposed edges of the bedsheet towards one another.

These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a bedsheet retention device.

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the bedsheet retention device connected to a bedsheet and a retention strap.

FIG. 3 is a perspective view illustrating the bedsheet retention device securing a bedsheet to a mattress.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an alternative use of the bedsheet retention device securing a bedsheet to a mattress.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provide a bedsheet retention device for securing a bedsheet to a mattress.

As seen in reference to FIG. 1, the bedsheet retention device 10 includes a first pair of rings 12 secured by a first strap loop 14 extending through an opening of the first pair of rings 12. A second pair of rings 16 are secured by a second strap loop 18 extending through the opening of the second pair of rings 16. The first and second strap loops 14, 18 may be formed from a unitary length of strap material having a first end and a second end joined at an intermediate location 20 between the loops by a fastener 22.

The strap material may be formed of any suitable material, such as nylon webbing, leather, woven fabrics, steel band, or similar durable material. The fastener 22 may include a plurality of stitches, a weld, a clamp, an adhesive, or the like. The rings 12, 16 may be formed of any suitable material, such as plastics, metal, ceramics, composites, and the like. The first and second pairs of rings 12, 16 may be formed with the first pair of rings 12 having the same or substantially dissimilar diameters than the second pair of rings 16. The first and second pairs of rings 12, 16 may be circular, D-shaped, or the like.

As seen in reference to FIG. 2, the first pair of rings 12 are utilized to threadingly secure an edge of a bedsheet 30, wherein the edge of the bedsheet is received through the center of both rings 12, threaded around an outer circumferential aspect of one ring, and then back through the center of the other ring. When tension is applied to the bedsheet 30 the first pair of rings 12 cinch the edge of the bedsheet 30, thereby retaining the bedsheet edge.

A cinching strap 24 is shown attached to the second pair of rings 16. A first free end 26 of the cinching strap 24 is similarly threaded in the second set of rings 16, such that the cinching strap 24 is retained by the second set of rings 16 when a tension force is applied to a running length 28, or second free end of the cinching strap 24.

The edges of the bedsheet 30 and the cinching strap 24 are releasable from their respective rings 12, 16 by relaxing the tension on the bed sheet 30 or the cinching strap 24. Alternatively, the bedsheet 30 and cinching strap 24 may be released by separating the respective ring pairs 12, 16.

As seen in reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, the bedsheet retention device 10 is shown securing a bedsheet 30 to a mattress 40. In use, the bedsheet retention device 10 may be utilized in pairs to secure opposed edges of the bedsheet 30 to the respective first ring pairs 12, 12′. The cinching strap 24 is secured to the respective second ring pairs 16, 16′ and extends between the corresponding opposed retention devices 10. The cinching strap 24 may be tightened from either side of the mattress 40 to draw the edges of the bedsheet 30 taught and to retain the edges of the sheet 30 in a tucked condition around the mattress 40. As will be appreciated, the opposed ends may be longitudinally disposed, diagonally disposed, or laterally disposed.

The bedsheet retention device 10 may be utilized for a fitted or non-fitted bedsheets 30. While described herein as a bedsheet retention device, the device may also be utilized for securing or joining other types of fabric items.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
