GARMENT WITH REMOVABLE EXTREMITY COVERS

Abstract

A garment for a person comprising; a first article having at least two openings, wherein each of the at least two openings are for legs to pass through exposing the feet of a person, a reinforcement member secured to the first article, distal to where the feet of the person pass through, a first attachment means secured to the reinforcement member, at least two second articles having an opening designed to substantially fit and conceal the foot of the person, and a second attachment means secured to an interior surface of the at least two second articles distal to the opening, wherein the second attachment means is designed to mate with the first attachment means, and are aligned in a predetermined pattern.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to garment, and more particularly to a garment that allows for easy removal of the feet and hand covers.

It is important for infants and young children to wear socks or booties at night and in cold environments to maintain body temperature since their feet and hands are some of the primary ports through which heat escapes. Infants and young children engage in considerable activity as they squirm, kick, roll, and crawl during various stages of development. Parents and other caregivers lift the children from a floor, a crib, a car seat, and other places and they must frequently remove clothing to clean the child or change a diaper. During the course of the activities of the child and the tasks of caregiver's, socks tend to get misplaced and need to be replaced.

According to one shortcoming of the prior art, clothing for infants and young children will typically be worn for a short period of time and changed often due to getting dirty or a change in the temperature. This is especially true for seasonal clothing that typically cannot be used by the same child the following season.

It is desired to have an article of clothing that allows for easy removal of the parts of the garment that tend to get dirty or unclean the quickest and allow for easy replacement of these parts.

SUMMARY

In a first embodiment, the present invention is a garment for a person comprising; a first article having at least two openings, wherein each of the at least two openings are for legs to pass through exposing the feet of a person, a reinforcement member secured to the first article, distal to where the feet of the person pass through, a first attachment means secured to the reinforcement member, at least two second articles having an opening designed to substantially fit and conceal the foot of the person, and a second attachment means secured to an interior surface of the at least two second articles distal to the opening, wherein the second attachment means is designed to mate with the first attachment means, and are aligned in a predetermined pattern.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention provides a device that allows a garment for children to allow for easy and quick removal of the footwear and other portions of the garment that tend to easily and quickly get dirty, or where the child would need additional insulation or protection from the elements or the environment. This garment is designed to be used in cold environments or while sleeping so that child can stay warm and comfortable.

As will be apparent to those of skill in the art upon reading this disclosure, each of the individual embodiments described and illustrated herein has discrete components and features which may be readily separated from or combined with the features of any of the other several embodiments without departing from the scope or spirit of the present invention. It is to be understood that this invention is not limited to particular embodiments described, as such may, of course, vary. It is also to be understood that the terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only, and is not intended to be limiting, since the scope of the present invention will be limited only by the appended claims.

Unless defined otherwise, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this invention belongs. Although any methods and materials similar or equivalent to those described herein can also be used in the practice or testing of the present invention, the preferred methods and materials are now described.

In the early stages of infancy hand covers may be attached to the garment to protect the child from scratching themselves, and to assist in preventing the child from sucking their thumbs. The hand covers may be used from birth to 1 year or later depending on the child, while the garment is designed to be worn by the child from birth to age 5 but can be sized to fit teenagers or adults.

FIG. 1 depicts an image of a child 101 in a pair of pants 105 and a top 106, in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention. In the depicted embodiment, the child 101 is shown in the pants 105 with a top 106. The pants 105 have feet covers 130 attached and the top 106 has hand covers 140 attached. This invention provides an easy means to attach the covers 130 and 140 to the pants 105 or top 106 or replace if they are dirty or soiled. In additional embodiments, the top 106 may be a jacket, have zippers, a hood, or the like. In some embodiments the top 106 and the pants 105 are a single element e.g. a body suit. In the depicted embodiment, the pants 105 are dual legged to allow the child's legs to pass through with an opening at each end of the legs. The feet cover 130 detachably engaged with the pants 105. In the depicted embodiment, the feet cover 130 go over the ends of the pants 105. The feet cover 130 may be made from various materials, such as, but not limited to, cotton, polyesters, or other materials. In some embodiments the feet cover 130 have a coating 131 on the bottom or sole of the foot cover 130 to replica the sole of a pair of shoes. This coating 131 provides protection and increase friction with the ground. The coating 131 acts like the sole of a shoe. The feet cover 130 are secured to the pants 105 through a securement means. The top 106 has a securement means with the hand covers 140 so that they can be easily attached and detached from the garment. The hand covers 140 may have a coating or cover over a portion of the exterior surface to increase the grip of the hand covers 140. The coating 131 or the grip applied to the hand covers 140 may be, but not limited to latex, neoprene, rubber, or other materials that improve gripping and friction. In some embodiments, the coating 131 covers the entire foot cover 130, or the hand cover 140. In some embodiments, there are multiple different coatings 131 covering various parts and portions of the hand cover 140 and the feet cover 130. For example, the sole of the foot cover 130 may be coated in a non-slip material, while the rest of the foot cover 130 may be coating in an insulating material to provide additional warmth for the person 101.

The hand covers 140, the feet covers 130, the top 106, and the pants 105 may be made from various materials, provide vary degrees of insulation dependent on the intended environment of use, have various pockets, pouches, and designed known to those skilled in the arts.

In the depicted embodiment, the top 106 extends over the ends of the hand covers 140, reverse as the pants 105 and the feet covers 130. Both designs can be implemented into the garment.

FIG. 2 depicts an image of the pants 105 disassembled, in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention. The hand covers 140 and the top 106 have a substantially similar attachment means, and the pants 105 are shown as an exemplary embodiment. The pants 105 are shown separated from the feet cover 130. In the depicted embodiment, distal to the end 110 of the each of the legged portions of the pants 105, have a reinforcement area 111 around the end of the leg opening 110. The reinforcement area 111 is designed to reinforce the structural integrity of the legged portions 105 to increase the life span of the garment and to provide a stronger section of the pants 105 to secure the feet covers 130 to. In the depicted embodiment, the reinforcement area 111 is stitched 111 to the pants 105. In additional embodiments, various securing means may be employed or the reinforcement area 111 may be integrated into the pants 105. Integrated with the reinforcement area 111 are a plurality of securing means 115 in a predetermined pattern or position along the reinforcement area 111. A reciprocal securing means 116 is attached to the foot covers 130 distal to an opening 136 of each foot cover 130. The securing means 116 are integrated into the foot covers 130 in a substantially similar pattern or position, so that feet covers 130 are secured they are orientated to comfortably fit the person's feet. In the depicted embodiment, the securing means 115 is positioned on the exterior surface of the pants 105, and on the interior surface of the foot cover 130. There are two rows of securing members 115 and 116 to allow for the adjustment of the feet covers 130 relative to the length of the pants 105. In additional embodiments, the securing means 115 may be attached to the exterior surface of the foot cover 130 and the interior surface of the pants 105, wherein the reinforcement area 111 is also attached to the interior surface of the pants 105.

The foot cover 130 are comprised of an upper portion designed to cover a substantial portion of the ankle of the person, and to allow for adjustability as the child grows. The securing means 115 may have various positions to allow for the growth of the person. Positioned at the upper portion of the foot cover 130 is the attachment means 116 to mate with the securing means 115 of the pants 105. The attachment means 116 and the securing means 115 are positioned to allow for quick and easy connection, and also provide a comfortable fit for the person 101. In some embodiments, the attachment means 116 is a latch, button, hook and loop style fastener, magnets, a combination of the like, or other types of fasteners which are known to those skilled in the art.

In some embodiments, the foot cover 130 are further comprised of a lower portion which substantially covers the sole of the foot of the person. The foot covers 130 are similar in design to a shoe having a sole and an upper portion. The foot cover sole 132 is designed to protect the persons' foot from the ground, and also provide traction and control through the coating or integrated sole member integrated with the sole 132 of the foot cover 130. This assists the person in protecting the soles of their feet or hands, provides added traction, and increases the longevity of the foot cover 130. In some embodiments, the foot cover 130 may have various portions covered in different non-slip material based on the intended use. In some embodiments, there is no non-slip coating covering substantially all of the foot cover 130. In some embodiments, the foot cover 130 may be made of several different parts to imitate the look and feel of various types of shoes. In some embodiments, the foot cover 130 is designed to resembles a shoe, with a length of fabric extending upwards to secure to the pants 105, to give the impression the person is wearing regular shoes, socks, and pants.

In the depicted embodiment, the pants 101, have, the reinforcement area 111 with two rows of the securing means 115. The two rows provide the ability to either adjust the length of the pants 105, or to provide greater securement between the pants 105 and the foot covers 130. In some embodiments, the securing means 115 are male snap buttons, wherein the attachment means 140 are the mating female snap buttons. The foot cover 130 have, integrated into the interior surface a plurality of attachment means 140 in the form of female snap buttons to mate with the securing means 115 of the pants 105. There are also two rows of attachment means 140 to allow for customization based on the size of the person 101.

In some embodiments, the foot cover 130 are secured to the legged portion with an attachment means such as a string, or cord so as to keep the foot covers 130 attached to the pants 105, even when unsecured. In some embodiments, the foot cover 130 have multiple layers which can be attached through the various securing means to allow for adjustment based on the temperature or environment. In some embodiments, a top garment is secured to the top end of the pants 105 to create a full body suit with a similar removable system with gloves.

The top 106 and the hand cover 135 has a similar design and structure to the pants 105 and the foot cover 130. In some embodiments, the top 106 and the pants 105 have a similar attachment means to create a single garment 100 for the person 101 to wear.

The garment and the various components may be made from, but not limited to, cotton, flax, wool, ramie, silk, denim, down, fur, nylon, polyesters, spandex, flannel, lyocell, rayon, Tyvek, Gortex®, hemp, bamboo, or other materials used in clothing. The non-slip material may be various natural or manufactured rubber or high friction materials.

While this invention has been described in conjunction with the specific embodiments outlined above, it is evident that many alternatives, modifications and variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art. Accordingly, the preferred embodiments of the invention, as set forth above, are intended to be illustrative, not limiting. Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention.

Claims

1. A garment for a person comprising:

a first article adapted to be worn around a lower portion of a wearer and having a first and second opening adapted to receive feet of the wearer;

a reinforcement member secured to the first article, distal to the first and second openings;

a first attachment means secured to the reinforcement member;

a plurality of second articles adapted to cover feet of the wearer and cover at least the reinforcement member; and

a second attachment means secured to the first attachment means.

2. The garment of claim 1, wherein the plurality of second articles, further comprise, a non-slip coating applied to a predetermined portion of the at least two second articles, wherein a sole is formed.

3. The garment of claim 1, further comprising, a cord attached to the first article and one of the plurality of second articles.

4. The garment of claim 1, wherein the first attachment means is configured in a plurality of rows and the plurality of rows are a predetermined distance from the first and second openings.

5. The garment of claim 1, wherein the first attachment means, and the second attachment means are magnets.

6. The garment of claim 1, further comprising, a third article, wherein the third article has two sleeve members with open ends through which hands extend, and a main body joined to the sleeves, wherein the main body covers a portion of the first article.

7. The garment of claim 6, further comprising a plurality of fourth articles, wherein the plurality of fourth articles are adapted to receive a hand.

8. The garment of claim 7, wherein the third article further comprises a reinforcement member secured to the open ends of the sleeve members.

9. The garment of claim 8, further comprising, a third attachment means secured to the reinforcement member.

10. The garment of claim 9, further comprising, a fourth attachment means secured to the plurality of fourth articles, wherein the fourth attachment means detachably engaged with the third attachment means.

11. The garment of claim 10, wherein the plurality of fourth articles have a non-slip coating applied to a predetermined section of an exposed surface of the plurality of fourth articles.

12. A garment, comprising:

a first article having a main body joined with a first sleeve and a second sleeve, wherein the first sleeve and the second sleeve have an open end adapted for a hand to extend through, and the first article is adapted to cover a torso and arms of a wearer;

a second article adapted to be worn about a waist and legs of a wearer, wherein the second article comprising a waist opening and two feet openings;

a third article adapted to cover a foot and a portion of a leg of a wearer; and

a fourth article adapted to cover a hand and a portion of an arm of a wearer,

wherein the third article is detachably engaged with the second article and the fourth article is detachable engaged with the first article.

13. The garment of claim 12, wherein a reinforcement member is secured to an external surface of the first article distal to the open ends and the second article distal to the feet openings.

14. The garment of claim 13, further comprising, an attachment mechanism integrated into the reinforcement member of the first and second articles.

15. The garment of claim 12, wherein a portion of the third article and the fourth article are coated in a non-slip material.

16. The garment of claim 14, wherein the attachment mechanism are magnets.

17. The garment of claim 14, wherein the attachment mechanism has a predetermined pattern, wherein the predetermined pattern incorporates at least two rows.
