HOODED GARMENT WITH DETACHABLE MULTIPURPOSE SLEEVES

A garment includes a hood portion and a sleeve portion detachably engaged at its proximal end with the hood portion, e.g., by snaps. Each sleeve of the sleeve portion has a hand pocket at its distal end that a person wearing the garment can insert her hands into when the sleeve portion is attached to the hood portion. Also, each sleeve portion at its proximal end is open so that when detached from the hood portion, a person can place her arms into the sleeve portion.

FIELD

This application relates to garments with detachable multipurpose sleeves.

SUMMARY

A garment includes a hood portion configured to fit over a person's head. The hood portion includes first detachable closure elements. The garment also includes a sleeve portion defining proximal and distal ends and including second detachable closure elements detachably engageable with the first detachable closure elements of the hood portion to detachably engage the sleeve portion with the hood portion. The sleeve portion further includes left and right hollow sleeves, and each sleeve has a respective hand pocket adjacent a distal end of the respective sleeve such that a person wearing the garment can insert her hands into the hand pockets when the sleeve portion is attached to the hood portion. Each sleeve portion is open adjacent its respective proximal end so that when the sleeve portion is detached from the hood portion, a person can place her arms into the respective sleeves.

In some embodiments, a hand pocket may include an outer palm portion made of one or more silicone pads. A hand pocket may include an outer palm portion including a claw-like elongated member made of foam.

The detachable closure elements can include buttons, snaps, hook-and-eye closure elements, zipper elements, and combinations thereof.

In some examples, the hood portion may include a top region and at least one ear-like protrusion extending upwardly from the top region. The protrusion has a front and the garment can include one or more light emitting diodes (LED) supported on the protrusion and visible from the front of the protrusion. The garment may be made of faux fur.

In another aspect, a method includes detachably attaching open proximal ends of respective left and right sleeves to a hood portion that is wearable to cover the head of a person. The sleeves have closed distal ends forming hand pockets and openings adjacent the closed distal ends at wrist locations on the sleeves through which a person can pass her hands into the respective hand pockets when the sleeves are attached to the hood portion. The method includes detaching the left and right sleeves from the hood portion to enable a person to pass the open proximal ends of the sleeve up her arms until her hands are disposed in the hand pockets.

In another aspect, a garment includes a hood configured to be worn on a person's head, and left and right sleeves with respective open proximal ends detachably engaged with the hood adjacent the open proximal ends of the sleeves. Respective left and right-hand pockets enclose distal ends of the respective sleeves. A respective opening is formed in each sleeve adjacent each hand pocket to permit a person to place her hands through the openings into the hand pockets when the open proximal ends are detachably engaged with the hood.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

FIGS. 1-6 illustrate a garment 10 that includes a hood portion 12 configured to fit over the head of a person 14 and if desired cover the top of the shoulders. In the example shown, the hood portion 12 does not extend below the armpits of the person and does not cover the torso when the wearer is an average-sized adult female. The garment also includes a sleeve portion 16 detachably engageable with the hood portion 12 and defining proximal and distal ends 18, 20. The sleeve portion 16 further includes left and right hollow sleeves 22, 24, and each sleeve 22, 24 has a respective hand pocket 26 adjacent the distal end 20 of the respective sleeve such that a person wearing the garment can insert her hands into the hand pockets 26 (FIG. 3) when the sleeve portion 16 is attached to the hood portion 12. As shown best in FIG. 6, each sleeve 22, 24 has a respective opening 28 adjacent its respective proximal end 18 so that when the sleeve portion 16 is detached from the hood portion 12, a person can place her arms into the respective sleeves 22, 24, as shown in FIG. 5. The sleeve portion covers only the arms of the person.

FIGS. 1, 3, and 6 best illustrate that the hand pockets 26 can be accessed through respective slits or openings 30 formed in the respective sleeves 22, 24 nearer to the distal ends 20 than the proximal ends 18 of the sleeves, and specifically adjacent to the “wrist” area of each sleeve 22, 24. The person 14 can place her hands through the slits or openings 30 into the hand pockets 26 to completely enclose her hands within the sleeve portion 16.

FIG. 6 perhaps best shows that the hood portion 14 includes detachable closure elements 32, and the sleeve portion 16 likewise includes detachable closure elements 34 that are complementarily-configured to the closure elements 32 of the hood 12 to detachably engage the sleeves portion 16 with the hood portion 12. The detachable closure elements 32, 34 can include buttons with corresponding buttonholes, snaps with corresponding snap receptacles, hook-and-eye closure elements, zipper elements, and combinations thereof. These structures are not intended to be exclusive. In general, by “detachably engaging” with respect to the sleeves and hood is meant engaging the sleeves with the hood without the need for thread or other sewing, instead using a quick manual attachment technique such as buttons, snaps, zippers, hook-and-eye fasteners (of which Velcro® is an example), and the like.

FIG. 2 best shows that in some embodiments, the distal portion of one or both sleeves 22, 24 which forms the hand pockets may include an outer palm portion 36 made of one or more silicone pads 38, in the example shown, to mimic the paws of a tiger. The silicone pads 38 may be coated with glow-in-the-dark material such as phosphorescence. Also, the hand pockets may include one or more claw-like elongated members 40 made of, e.g., foam, in the example shown, to mimic the claws of a tiger.

In some examples, the hood portion 12 may include a top region 42 and one or more ear-like protrusions 44 extending upwardly from the top region. FIG. 6 best shows that each protrusion 44 has a front (relative to when the person 14 is wearing the garment 10) and in some implementations the garment can include one or more light emitting diodes (LED) 46 supported on the protrusion 44 and visible from the front of the protrusion. The garment 10 may be made of faux fur. LEDs may be placed elsewhere on the garment 10 if desired.

Accordingly, the person 14 in FIGS. 1 and 3 can wear the hood portion 12 with sleeve portion 16 attached thereto by appropriately manipulating the closure elements 32, 34 and insert and withdraw her hands into and out of the hand pockets 26. In the attached configuration of FIGS. 1 and 3, the open proximal ends 28 of the respective left and right sleeves 22, 24 are detachably attached to the hood portion 12, which is wearable to cover the head of the person. Because the sleeves 22, 24 have closed distal ends 20 forming the hand pockets 26 with openings 30 adjacent the closed distal ends 20 at wrist locations on the sleeves, the person 14 can pass her hands through the openings 30 into the respective hand pockets 26 when the sleeves 22, 24 are attached to the hood portion 12, with her arms above the wrists otherwise exposed.

The left and right sleeves 22, 24 can then be quickly detached from the hood portion 12 by appropriately manipulating the closure elements 32, 34 to enable the person 14 to pass the open proximal ends 28 of the sleeves 22, 24 up her arms until her hands are disposed in the hand pockets 26.

While particular embodiments are herein shown and described in detail, it is to be understood that the subject matter which is encompassed by the present invention is limited only by the claims.

Components included in one embodiment can be used in other embodiments in any appropriate combination. For example, any of the various components described herein and/or depicted in the Figures may be combined, interchanged or excluded from other embodiments.

“A system having at least one of A, B, and C” (likewise “a system having at least one of A, B, or C” and “a system having at least one of A, B, C”) includes systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and/or A, B, and C together, etc.

Claims

1. A garment, comprising:

a hood portion configured to fit over a person's head, the hood portion comprising first detachable closure elements; and
a sleeve portion defining proximal and distal ends, the sleeve portion comprising second detachable closure elements detachably engageable with the first detachable closure elements of the hood portion to detachably engage the sleeve portion with the hood portion, the sleeve portion comprising left and right hollow sleeves, each sleeve comprising a respective hand pocket adjacent a distal end of the respective sleeve such that a person wearing the garment can insert her hands into the hand pockets when the sleeve portion is attached to the hood portion, each sleeve being open adjacent its respective proximal end so that when the sleeve portion is detached from the hood portion, a person can place her arms into the respective sleeves.

2. The garment of claim 1, wherein at least one hand pocket comprises an outer palm portion made of at least one silicone pad.

3. The garment of claim 1, wherein at least one hand pocket comprises an outer palm portion made of at least one foam elongated member.

4. The garment of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first or second detachable closure elements comprise buttons.

5. The garment of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first or second detachable closure elements comprise snaps.

6. The garment of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first or second detachable closure elements comprise hook-and-eye closure elements.

7. The garment of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first or second detachable closure elements comprise zipper elements.

8. The garment of claim 1, wherein the hood portion comprises a top region and at least one protrusion extending upwardly from the top region.

9. The garment of claim 8, wherein the protrusion comprises a front and the garment comprises at least one light emitting diode (LED) supported on the protrusion and visible from the front of the protrusion.

10. The garment of claim 1, wherein the garment is made of faux fur.

11. A method, comprising:

detachably attaching open proximal ends of respective left and right sleeves to a hood portion that is wearable to cover the head of a person;
the sleeves having closed distal ends forming hand pockets and openings adjacent the closed distal ends at wrist locations on the sleeves through which a person can pass her hands into the respective hand pockets when the sleeves are attached to the hood portion; and
detaching the left and right sleeves from the hood portion to enable a person to pass the open proximal ends of the sleeve up her arms until her hands are disposed in the hand pockets.

12. The method of claim 11, comprising detachably attaching the sleeves to the hood portion using snaps.

13. The method of claim 11, comprising energizing at least one light emitting diode (LED) on the hood portion or one of the sleeves.

14. A garment comprising:

a hood configured to be worn on a person's head;
left and right sleeves with respective open proximal ends detachably engaged with the hood adjacent the open proximal ends of the sleeves;
respective left and right-hand pockets enclosing distal ends of the respective sleeves, a respective opening formed in each sleeve adjacent each hand pocket to permit a person to place her hands through the openings into the hand pockets when the open proximal ends are detachably engaged with the hood.

15. The garment of claim 14, wherein the left and right sleeves are detachable from the hood to permit a person to pass her arms through the respective proximal ends of the sleeves and place her hands in the hand pockets while still wearing the hood.

16. The garment of claim 14, wherein at least one hand pocket comprises an outer palm portion made of at least one silicone pad.

17. The garment of claim 14, wherein at least one of the first or second detachable closure elements comprise buttons.

18. The garment of claim 14, wherein at least one of the first or second detachable closure elements comprise snaps.

19. The garment of claim 14, wherein the hood portion comprises a top region and at least one protrusion extending upwardly from the top region.

20. The garment of claim 14, comprising at least one light emitting diode (LED) supported on the garment.
