This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/582,610 filed on Nov. 7, 2017. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates to a wearable travel pillow. When individuals, particularly children or toddlers, get tired during traveling, they will commonly bend over and resting their heads on their arms. Unfortunately, this position does not imbue comfort upon a child. Furthermore, this position may be painful and cause stress or stiffness in the neck of the individual.
Additionally, some people, particularly children and toddlers, may not be able to fall asleep during travel. Automobiles, planes and trains typically fail to provide an adequate amount of space and comfortable surfaces upon which the child or toddler may rest. Parents may experience stress in the event of traveling with a child or toddler who is unable to sleep.
Therefore, there is a need in the known art for a travel pillow that is configured to be donned on a user's wrist and provide a convenient and comfortable sleeping area for a user while traveling.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONIn view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of travel pillows now present in the known art, the present invention provides a wearable travel pillow wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when resting his or her head upon a pillow while traveling.
The present system comprises a body including an upper surface opposite of a lower surface. A pillow is disposed on the upper surface. Additionally, a pillow cover is disposed on the upper surface. The pillow cover is dimensioned to cover the pillow. The pillow cover is freely movable between a covered position and an uncovered position. The covered position is defined where the pillow is disposed in a cavity of the pillow cover. A wrist strap is disposed on the lower surface of the body for securing the body to the wearer's wrist.
In another embodiment, the present system further defines a pillow that is removable from the upper surface of the body, such as to enable the pillow to be removed from the body.
In yet another embodiment, the present system comprises a wrist strap that is removable from the body, such as to enable the pillow and the body to be removable from the wrist strap.
In a further embodiment, the present system comprises a circular body, such as to provide a lack of harsh corners and edges that may cause discomfort.
In yet a further embodiment, the present system comprises a body dimensioned to be identical in size and in shape to the pillow, such that structural support is provided to the entirety of the pillow.
In another embodiment, the pillow cover comprises a fastener configured to secure the pillow cover to the body such that the pillow cover is securely held in the covered position when engaged therein.
In yet another embodiment, the fastener comprises a locking channel, such that the pillow cover can be secured in the locking channel.
In a further embodiment, the fastener comprises a snap mechanism, such that the pillow cover can be secured to the body by engagement thereof.
In yet a further embodiment, the pillow comprises at least one indicium thereon, such that the indicium will be displayed in the uncovered position and covered in the covered position.
Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.
Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the wearable travel pillow. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

The upper surface 12 of the body 11 is configured to receive and support a pillow 13 thereon. The pillow 13 comprises an internal compartment wherein a padding substance is disposed in the internal compartment. The padding substance is configured to provide comfort to a user when the user rests on the wearable travel pillow 10. In the shown embodiment, the pillow 13 is circular in shape. In another embodiment, the pillow 13 comprises memory foam disposed in the internal compartment. In one embodiment, the pillow 13 is 3.5 inches in diameter. In another embodiment, the pillow is 1.5 inches thick. The 3.5 inch diameter is designed to support the average sized human. The 1.5 inch thickness is adapted to provide optimal comfort to the user.
Additionally, in an alternate embodiment, the body 11 is dimensioned to be an identical size and shape to the pillow 13. When the body 11 is dimensioned to be of identical size and shape as the pillow 13, support is provided to the entire periphery of the pillow 13. This is will prevent areas where the pillow 13 does not have support thereunder, which may be uncomfortable to a user.
In one embodiment, the pillow 13 is removably attached to the body 11. Removable attachment of the pillow 13 provides convenience to a user by allowing the pillow 13 to be removed in order to clean the pillow 13 or to use the pillow 13 separately from the wearable apparatus. The pillow is removably securable to the body 11 by any suitable means, such as a hook and loop fastener or a magnetic fastener.
Additionally, a pillow cover 14 is disposed on the upper surface of the body 11. The pillow cover 14 is dimensioned to engulf the pillow therein. The pillow cover 14 is freely movable between a covered position (as shown in
In another embodiment, the pillow cover 14 is dimensioned to cover both the pillow 13 and the body 11. In another embodiment, the pillow cover 14 is circular and has a diameter of 4.625 inches. The diameter of the pillow cover 14 is greater than the diameter of the pillow 13. In yet another embodiment, the pillow cover 14 is made of a stretch material. In one embodiment the stretch material is made of 80% nylon and 20% Spandex.
In the shown embodiment, an indicium 17 is disposed on an external surface of the pillow cover 14. The indicium 17 is configured to be displayed when the wearable travel pillow 10 is in the covered position. Furthermore, the indicium 17 may be of any suitable configuration, such as to enable personalization by a user. The indicium 17 enables customization of the wearable travel pillow 10 and will notify the wearer if the pillow is in the covered position or the uncovered position.

In another embodiment, the wearable travel pillow 10 comprises a fastener 18 configured to secure the pillow cover 14 in the covered position. In one embodiment, the fastener comprises a locking channel. In the shown embodiment, the fastener 18 comprises a snap mechanism, wherein the snap mechanism comprises a male connector disposed on the pillow cover 14 and a female connector disposed on the body 11. In alternate embodiments, any suitable fastener may be utilized to secure the pillow cover 14 in the covered position such as a magnetic fastener, a hook and loop fastener, or the like.
In the shown embodiment, the body 11 comprises a plurality of arms 19 extending therefrom. The plurality of arms 19 is configured to attach the body 11 to a wrist strap 15. Each arm of the plurality of arms comprises an aperture therethrough such that a support can be inserted therethrough to connect the body 11 to the wrist strap 15. The support extending between opposing arms on either side of the body 11 defines an opening between a lower side of the body 11 and an upper side of the support through which the wrist strap 15 is inserted.

In one embodiment, the wrist strap 15 is removably secured to the lower surface 16 of the body 11 via a fastener such as a magnet, a hook and loop fastener, an adhesive or the like. The wrist strap 15 is removable such that the pillow and pillow cover may be used when the wearable travel pillow 10 is not being worn. For example, a wearer may desire to remove the wrist strap such that the lower surface 16 of the body 11 can be rested upon a flat surface, such as a table or desk.
In the shown embodiment the wrist strap 15 is adjustable by the action of a button 20 disposed on a first end of the wrist strap and a plurality of corresponding clasps 19 disposed on a second end of the wrist strap 15. In another embodiment, the wrist strap 15 is adjustable via a hook and loop fastener disposed on the wrist strap 15.
