Disclosed herein are cosmetology and barbering gloves that enable cutting of hair without puncturing the knuckle or hand of the user.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62/628,467 entitled “Cosmetology and Barbering Metal Mesh Glove” filed on Feb. 9, 2018, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.

FIELD

The present disclosure relates to protective cosmetology and barbering finger and hand protectors. Even more specifically it relates to metal mesh gloves to provide protection from accidental cuts and punctures during haircut procedures by students and licensed professionals.

BACKGROUND

In the field of cosmetology and barbering it is known that professionals spend most of their operative days using sharp instruments. It is common for the user to cut or puncture the knuckle or another portion of the middle finger or palm while in the process of cutting hair. Previous attempts to protect the hand or finger have not sufficiently protected the hand or finger from puncture, are not able to be sanitized between patients as required by regulations, or do not provide sufficient mobility to flex and move the hand and/or finger while working.

BRIEF SUMMARY

The disclosure provides for a cosmetology and barbering glove for protection of a user's hand during haircutting services. In an aspect, the glove may include a plurality of jump rings interconnected to form a mesh and at least one securing mechanism. The mesh may be operable to surround a portion of the palm, a portion of the dorsum, and a portion of one finger of the user's hand. The securing mechanism may be operable to secure the mesh to the user's hand.

In an aspect, the plurality of jump rings is metal, such as stainless steel. In another aspect, the securing mechanism is selected from an elastic band (e.g. rubber), a clasp, and/or a hook. In various aspects, the cosmetology and barbering glove includes a first securing mechanism and a second securing mechanism. In one aspect, the first securing mechanism is an elastic band and the second securing mechanism is a clasp, where the elastic band is woven within the last row of jump rings around the middle of the one finger of the user. In another aspect, the first and second securing mechanisms are elastic bands, where one elastic band is woven within the last row of jump rings around the middle of the one finger of the user and another elastic band is woven within the last row of jump rings around the middle of the palm and dorsum of the user.

In an aspect, the glove covers only one finger. The finger may be the middle finger or the index finger. In some aspects, the mesh surrounds the user's knuckle of the finger, stopping before fingertip of the finger. In additional aspects, the mesh surrounds the center of the palm and dorsum side of the user's hand, stopping at the purlicue of the thumb.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The cosmetology and barbering metal mesh glove and method of use will be understood, both as to its structure and operation, from the accompanying drawings, taken in conjunction with the accompanying description. It is noted that, for purposes of illustrative clarity, certain elements in various drawings may not be drawn to scale. Several variations of the glove are presented herein. It should be understood that various components, parts, and features of the different variations may be combined together and/or interchanged with one another, all of which are within the scope of the present application, even though not all variations and particular variations are shown in the drawings. It should also be understood that the mixing and matching of features, elements, and/or functions between various variations is expressly contemplated herein so that one of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate from this disclosure that the features, elements, and/or functions of one variation may be incorporated into another variation as appropriate, unless described otherwise.

Disclosed herein is a cosmetology and barbering glove and methods of use thereof that enables the user's hand and finger to be protected from cutting, slicing, and poking of sharp objects while cutting hair. During the cutting process, the hair is picked up and placed between the index and middle finger of the user. Scissors are then used to remove the hair above the index and middle finger just after the second knuckle and before the tip of the fingers, the hand is positioned in a way that the little finger is perpendicular to the floor making the index finger primarily visible to the user. During this time when the hair is being removed is when the user poses the greatest risk for cutting the top of the middle finger as it is only partially visible, if at all, in this position. In other examples, the user may be at risk for cutting a portion of the index finger. In additional examples, the user may be at risk for cutting a portion of the palm. Therefore, the cosmetology and barbering glove may be used to provide a cut resistant protective barrier to a finger and a portion of the dorsum or palm of the hand.

In addition, for safety reasons, the glove needs to be sanitized between clients. Therefore, the glove may be made of a material capable of withstanding industry sanitation procedures. For example, the glove may include stainless steel or another metal that is easily sterializable. Moreover, because the glove will be worn while cutting hair, it is important that the glove is flexible such that the finger(s) can bend and flex and allows the user to maintain dexterity.

The cosmetology and barbering glove described herein may include of a plurality of jump rings configured to surround a portion of a user's hand, including at least one finger. In some examples, the plurality of jump rings may be interconnected or linked together to form a mesh, such as chain mail. In an example, the plurality of jump rings may be metal so that they can be sterilized or sanitized. The plurality of jump rings may be interconnected to form a mesh configured to surround at least a portion of the palm and dorsum and at least a portion of one finger of the user. In various embodiments, the plurality of jump rings may be configured to surround at least a portion of the middle finger or the index finger of the user. The jump rings may be configured to extend just above the knuckle of the user's finger but not fully cover the tip of the finger. For example, the jump rings may be configured to cover the user's hand from the center of the middle phalanx of the middle finger on both the dorsum and palm sides extending down to the middle of the palm. The coverage of the hand extends from the left, adjacent to the base of the middle finger covering the palmar digital crease just under the index finger. Adjacent to the right of the middle finger's base coverage continues over the palmar digital crease just below the ring and little finger on the palm side of the hand. The coverage from the jump rings continue around the top of the hand covering the dorsum side of the ring finger's first knuckle, the little finger's first knuckle and the index finger's first knuckle, leaving the thumb completely uninvolved. The jump rings may continue down to the center of the hand both palm and dorsum side stopping at the purlicue, or webbing, of the thumb.

The glove may further include at least one securing mechanism attached to the jump rings for securing the glove to the user's hand. The securing mechanism may be flexible, expandable, and/or sterializable. Non-limiting examples of securing mechanisms include an elastic band, a clasp, a hook, or any other means for securing the glove onto a user's hand. In an example, the securing mechanism may be an elastic band made of rubber. The elastic or rubber band may provide for the glove to incorporate multiple sizes and give added flexibility to the glove. In an embodiment, the glove may include two elastic bands. In another embodiment, the glove may include one elastic band and one clasp. In some examples, an elastic band may be woven or intertwined with the final row of jump rings that meet at the center of the middle finger's middle phalanx. In other examples, an elastic band may be woven or entwined with the final row of jump rings surrounding the circumference of the hand just above the purlicue of the thumb. In yet other examples, a clasp may be attached to a portion of jump rings near the final row of jump rings, such that the clasp may be configured to reversibly connect to additional jump rings to secure the lower portion of the glove around the user's palm.

FIG. 1 depicts a perspective view of the dorsum of the hand of a user and the approximate coverage of the cosmetology and barbering glove 100 according to various embodiments described herein. FIGS. 2-3 depict front and rear views, respectively, of the cosmetology and barbering glove 100 according to various embodiments described herein. FIGS. 4-5 depict right and left views, respectively, of the cosmetology and barbering glove 100 according to various embodiments described herein. FIGS. 6-7 depict top and bottom views, respectively, of the cosmetology and barbering glove 100 according to various embodiments described herein.

As seen in the figures, the cosmetology and barbering glove 100 may include a plurality of jump rings 120. For example, each jump ring 120 may be attached to another jump ring 120 to create a network of jump rings 120, such as a metal mesh. Each jump ring may have an inner diameter of about 1.5 mm, about 2 mm, about 2.25 mm, about 2.5 mm, about 2.75 mm, or about 3 mm. This network of jump rings 120 may attach to a securing mechanism around the hand 110 and a securing mechanism around the finger 115. For example, the securing mechanism may be a rubber piece 110, 115 that adds flexibility to the dorsum and/or palm side of the middle finger and hand. The elements of the glove are configured to be positioned on the hand in an effective pattern to produce the best cut and puncture resistant results available, along with the capability of withstanding necessary sanitation that meets industry standards.

Also provided herein is a method of cutting hair using the cosmetology and barbering glove. The method may include sterilizing the glove, inserting the user's hand into the glove such that the glove surrounds a portion of the palm, dorsum, and one finger, securing the glove to the user's hand using the securing mechanism, and cutting a client's hair. The user's knuckle and/or hand may then be protected from cuts or pokes from sharp cutting instruments while cutting the client's hair.

The particular variations disclosed above are illustrative only, as the variations may be modified and practiced in different but equivalent manners apparent to those skilled in the art having the benefit of the teachings herein. It is therefore evident that the particular variations disclosed above may be altered or modified, and all such variations are considered within the scope and spirit of the application. Accordingly, the protection sought herein is as set forth in the description. Although the present variations are shown above, they are not limited to just these variations, but are amenable to various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit thereof. Additionally, a number of well-known processes and elements have not been described in order to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the present invention. Accordingly, the above description should not be taken as limiting the scope of the invention.

Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the presently disclosed variations teach by way of example and not by limitation. Therefore, the matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings should be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. The following claims are intended to cover all generic and specific features described herein, as well as all statements of the scope of the present method and system, which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.

Claims

1. A cosmetology and barbering glove for protection of a user's hand during haircutting services, the glove comprising:

a plurality of jump rings interconnected to form a mesh, wherein the mesh is operable to surround a portion of the palm, a portion of the dorsum, and a portion of one finger of the user's hand; and
at least one securing mechanism connected to a portion of the plurality of jump rings, wherein the securing mechanism is operable to secure the mesh to the user's hand.

2. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 1, wherein the plurality of jump rings are metal.

3. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 1, wherein the plurality of jump rings are stainless steel.

4. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 1, wherein the securing mechanism is selected from an elastic band, a clasp, and/or a hook.

5. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 4, wherein the elastic band comprises rubber.

6. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 4, wherein the cosmetology and barbering glove comprises a first securing mechanism and a second securing mechanism.

7. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 6, wherein the first securing mechanism is an elastic band and the second securing mechanism is a clasp.

8. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 7, wherein the first securing mechanism is woven within the last row of jump rings around the middle of the one finger of the user.

9. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 6, wherein the first and second securing mechanisms are elastic bands.

10. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 9, wherein the first securing mechanism is woven within the last row of jump rings around the middle of the one finger of the user and the second securing mechanism is woven within the last row of jump rings around the middle of the palm and dorsum of the user.

11. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 1, wherein the finger is the middle finger or the index finger.

12. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 1, wherein the mesh surrounds the user's knuckle of the finger, stopping before fingertip of the finger.

13. The cosmetology and barbering glove of claim 1, wherein the mesh surrounds the center of the palm and dorsum side of the user's hand, stopping at the purlicue of the thumb.
