SPECIFICATION To All Whom It May Concern

Be it known that I, Sevasti Chira, a citizen of Greece, have invented new and useful improvements in a ribbon hairpiece securable without clips as described in this specification.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Modern hair toppers, and supplemental hair devices such as wigs and toupees, typically employ some form of attachment to secure to the wearer's natural hair or scalp. Clips, combs, tape, and adhesives are common in the art, however each type of these known attachments presents some problems for the wearer. Clips and combs often require attachment to the wearer's already-thinning hairline, and often require additional means of securement, such as pins, tapes, or adhesives. Tapes and adhesives can be uncomfortable, itchy, or act as an irritant or allergen to the scalp. And removal of these devices can be difficult and discomforting. Further, use of adhesives, clips, and combs can contribute to additional hair loss by pulling at and stressing the hair follicles.

What is needed is a hairpiece that conformably secures to the head of a wearer without the need for clips, combs, tapes, or adhesives, but by an integral array of specially configured ribbons, aligned appropriately to engage the hairpiece to the skull of the wearer while accommodating blending with the wearer's natural hair.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a ribbon hairpiece securable without clips, combs, or other fasteners or adhesives. The present ribbon hairpiece is securable to the head by use of an array of ribbons disposed to conveniently and comfortably conform around the wearer's skull and tautly engage proximal to the wearer's occipital bone to maintain secure position of a crownpiece atop the wearer's head.

The particular array of ribbons is configured to draw the crownpiece tightly to the head without creating discmofort while releasably fastening conveniently proximal to the nape of the wearer's neck, immediately underlying the mastoid process. Each of the ribbons is concealed by supplental hair, which may be blended with the wearer's natural hair for a more natural and realistic wear while increasing the security of the crownpiece in postion atop the wearer's head. No clips, combs, adhesives, or any other fastening means is required. The result is a comfortable hairpiece that resembles natural hair and instills confidence in the wearer by offering secure placement even in windy conditions.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present ribbon hairpiece has been devised to be securable upon a wearer's head without clips, combs, adhesives, or any other additional means of attachment, while remaining relatively lightweight, comfortable, and secure. The novel features of the present ribbon hairpiece enable securement to the head of a wearer even in windy weather and during physical activities.

The present ribbon hairpiece, therefore, is devised to secure atop a wearer's head without requiring securement fasteners such as clips, combs, or adhesives, as is commonly seen in the state of the art. The present ribbon hairpiece presents a novel solution for securing a hairpiece atop a wearer's head, and relies on a configuration of thin, breathable, ribbons that fasten together around the wearer's head to tautly conform and engage to the wearer's head and the contours of the wearer's skull.

The present ribbon hairpiece, therefore, includes a crown piece devised to seat atop the wearer's head and present a full head of thick, illustrious hair, and a plurality of ribbons depended therefrom that are devised to fasten together to secure the crown piece in position while enabling the wearer to blend any natural hair the wearer has into the supplemental hair. The effect is to create a full head of hair securely attached to the wearer's head without clips, combs, adhesives, or any additional fasteners which can be uncomfortable and damaging to the wearer's natural hair and/or scalp.

The crown piece and each associated ribbon, as set forth herein, are extremely lightweight and breathable, being rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric. Thus the entire hairpiece is more comfortable to wear than other hairpieces seen in the present state of the art.

The crown piece serves as a substrate for supporting thick, supplemental hair that is attached thereto. The crown piece is bounded by a front line, adapted to overlie or engage behind the wearer's natural hairline, a rear line, adapted to position atop the wearer's head in a position overtop the wearer's parietal bone in a position approximately one-quarter to one-third of the distance from the wearer's coronal suture, and each of a pair of lateral lines adapted to position laterally along the wearer's head overtop the wearer's ears between the front line and the rear line. The crown piece is secured in place by the action of a plurality of ribbons configured to conform to and tautly engage around the head of the wearer.

A left circumference ribbon, therefore, rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric between approximately ¼ inch and 1 inch wide, is attached to an underside of the crown piece at a position immediately behind the front line proximally above the wearer's left temporal line. The left circumference ribbon is disposed to encircle the wearer's skull diagonally crossing behind the wearer's left ear to a terminus disposed underneath the wearer's occipital bone proximal the wearer's mastoid process at the nape of the wearer's neck. The terminus is attachable to a right circumference ribbon terminus, as will be described below.

In like manner, the right circumference ribbon is rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric between approximately ¼ inch and 1 inch wide, said right circumference ribbon attached to the underside of the crown piece at a position immediately behind the front line proximally above the wearer's right temporal line. The right circumference ribbon is likewise disposed to encircle the wearer's skull diagonally crossing behind the wearer's right ear to a terminus underneath the wearer's occipital bone proximal the wearer's mastoid process at the nape of the wearer's neck. The terminus of the right circumference ribbon is releasably fastenable to the terminus of the left circumference ribbon to engage the right and left circumference ribbons tautly and comfortably to the wearer's head. The angle of the left and right circumference ribbons tautly engaged together serves well to secure the crown piece in position atop the wearer's head. Fastening under the occipital bone, the ribbons tautly secure against the wearer's skull and the occipital bone serves as a fulcrum against which the ribbons may tension. The hairpiece is therefore tautly conformed to the head of a wearer to remain flush, molded particularly to the shape of the wearer's head, especially at the hairline and proximal the wearer's temples where hairpieces often sit awkwardly. The appearance is of a wearer's natural hair, consistent with and conformed to the lines of the wearer's head. Clips and adhesives, as seen in the art to tension and firmly maintain conformity of hairpieces to the wearer's head, are therefore not required to maintain the appearance of the hairpiece as natural hair properly conformed to the wearer's hairline.

A rear center ribbon, also rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric between approximately ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, is attached to the underside of the crown piece at a position centrally disposed upon the rear line. The rear center ribbon is disposed vertically to project downward from the rear line of the crown piece over the wearer's occipital bone to secure its terminus to the termini of the left and right circumference ribbons. Thus the wearer's occipital bone serves as a fulcrum against which to anchor the ribbons above described, whereby the crown piece is maintained in position atop the wearer's head without clips or attachments.

A rear circumference ribbon, rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone weave or fabric material between ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, is attached longitudinally along the rear line of the crown piece, extending from the left circumferential ribbon to the right circumferential ribbon. The rear circumference ribbon supportively engages the crown piece atop the rear portion of the wearer's parietal plate and may thereat further conform and engage to the shape of the wearer's skull to increase stability of the hairpiece in position and increase the support for the supplemental hair extending therefrom.

The ribbons above mentioned further serve as substrates to which supplemental hair is attached. A wearer may therefore blend said wearer's natural hair between the ribbons into the supplemental hair. Having the wearer's natural hair disposed to depend through and in between each of the ribbons above mentioned further serves to anchor the hairpiece in position and create the appearance of a natural, thick head of hair.

In another embodiment, a first side ribbon, rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone weave or fabric material between ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, may be attached to the underside of the crown piece upon one of the pair of lateral lines at a position approximately midway between the left circumference ribbon and the rear center ribbon. The first side ribbon is disposed downward to pass approximately 3 inches behind the wearer's left ear and connect with the underside of the left circumference ribbon at a position approximate to the wearer's occipital bone.

A second side ribbon is also rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone weave or fabric material between ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, and attached to the underside of the crown piece upon the other of the pair of lateral lines at a position approximately midway between the right circumference ribbon and the rear center ribbon. The second side ribbon is disposed downward to pass approximately 3 inches behind the wearer's right ear to connect with the underside of the right circumference ribbon at a position approximate to the wearer's occipital bone.

The termini of each of the left circumference ribbon, the right circumference ribbon, and the rear center ribbon attach and secure together in a position approximate the nape of the wearer's neck to tautly engage the crown piece atop the wearer's head without the aid of clips, combs, adhesives, or other means of attachment. The crownpiece, left circumference ribbon, right circumference ribbon, rear center ribbon 50, left side ribbon 60 (when present), and right side ribbon (when present), are covered with, and concealed by, supplemental hair 500, whereby the wearer may tease out said wearer's natural hair 100 to display between the left and right circumference ribbons 30, and each of the first and second side ribbons (when present), and the rear central ribbon.

The crownpiece serves as a substrate for supplemental hair. The left circumference ribbon, right circumference ribbon, rear center ribbon, rear circumference ribbon, and (when present) right and left side ribbons, are also supplemented with supplemental hair. Once the hairpiece is fitted to the wearer's head, the wearer's natural hair is then blendable with the supplemental hair by teasing the natural hair between the ribbons.

In another embodiment contemplated herein, the plurality of ribbons above described are devised for separable attachment to an existing topper in ieu of the crown piece. In this example embodiment, a user of an existing topper is enabled to convert the existing topper for use with the plurality of ribbons to secure to the user's head in lieu of the clips and/or adhesive that were used with the existing topper in like manner as described above. In this example embodiment, the same general principles as described above are in effect, only the ribbons are separable and re-securable to the underside of the topper, as crownpiece above described, by engagement of corresponding fastening elements. A user may, therefore, secure fastening elements in appropriate position upon the existing topper, and then connect each of the plurality of ribbons thereto by interaction of corresponding fastening elements whereby the plurality of ribbons are attachable to the topper for securement to the user's head without clips or adhesives. Fastening elements are contemplated to include small snaps or hook and loop fasteners connecting the ribbons to the underside of the topper. The overall effect is a user may convert an existing topper for use with the ribbons as herein described.

Thus has been broadly outlined the more important features of the present ribbon hairpiece securable without clips so that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated.

Objects of the present ribbon hairpiece securable without clips, along with various novel features that characterize the invention are particularly pointed out in the claims forming a part of this disclosure. For better understanding of the ribbon hairpiece securable without clips, its operating advantages and specific objects attained by its uses, refer to the accompanying drawings and description.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular FIGS. 1 through 11 thereof, example of the instant ribbon hairpiece employing the principles and concepts of the present ribbon hairpiece and generally designated by the reference number 10 will be described.

Referring to FIGS. 1 through 11 an example embodiment of the ribbon hairpiece 10 is illustrated.

Referring to FIG. 1, the present ribbon hairpiece 10 includes a crown piece 20 devised to seat atop the wearer's head. The crown piece 20 is rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric and is configured to seat over the crown of the wearer's head. The crown piece 20 is bounded by a front line 22 adapted to overlie or engage behind the wearer's natural hairline, a rear line 24 adapted to position atop the wearer's head in a position overtop the wearer's parietal bone in a position approximately one-quarter to one-third of the distance from the wearer's coronal suture, and each of a pair of lateral lines 26 adapted to position laterally along the wearer's head overtop the wearer's ears between the front line and the rear line 24.

As shown in FIG. 4, a left circumference ribbon 30 is rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric between approximately ¼ inch and 1 inch wide. The left circumference ribbon 30 is attached to an underside of the crown piece 20 at a position immediately behind the front line 22 proximally above the wearer's left temporal line. The left circumference ribbon 30 is disposed to encircle the wearer's skull diagonally crossing behind the wearer's left ear to a terminus 32 disposed underneath the wearer's occipital bone proximal the wearer's mastoid process at the nape of the wearer's neck. See FIG. 2.

In like manner, as shown in FIG. 1, a right circumference ribbon 40 is rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric between approximately ¼ inch and 1 inch wide, said right circumference ribbon 40 attached to the underside of the crown piece 20 at a position immediately behind the front line 22 proximally above the wearer's right temporal line. The right circumference ribbon 40 is likewise disposed to encircle the wearer's skull diagonally crossing behind the wearer's right ear to a terminus 42 underneath the wearer's occipital bone proximal the wearer's mastoid process at the nape of the wearer's neck. The terminus 42 of the right circumference ribbon 40 is therefore releasably fastenable to the terminus 32 of the left circumference ribbon 30 to engage the right and left circumference ribbons 30, 40 tautly and comfortably to the wearer's head. See for example FIGS. 2 and 3.

Referring again to FIG. 2, a rear center ribbon 50 is rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone fiber weave or fabric between approximately ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, and attached to the underside of the crown piece 20 at a position centrally disposed upon the rear line 24, said rear center ribbon 50 disposed vertically over the wearer's occipital bone to secure a terminus 52 to the termini of the left and right circumference ribbons.

A rear circumference ribbon 80, rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone weave or fabric material between ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, is attached longitudinally along the rear line 24 of the crown piece 20, extending from the left circumferential ribbon 30 to the right circumferential ribbon 40.

In example embodiments shown in FIGS. 1, 4, 5 and 6, a first side ribbon 60 is rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone weave or fabric material between ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, and attached to the underside of the crown piece 20 upon one of the pair of lateral lines 26 at a position approximately midway between the left circumference ribbon 30 and the rear center ribbon 50. The first side ribbon 60 is disposed downward to pass approximately 3 inches behind the wearer's left ear to connect with the left circumference ribbon 30 at a position approximate to the wearer's occipital bone.

In said example embodiments shown in FIGS. 1, 4, 5, and 6, a second side ribbon 70 is also rendered of thin textile, bobbinet lace tulle, or silicone weave or fabric material between ¼ inch and ½ inch wide, and attached to the underside of the crown piece 20 upon the other of the pair of lateral lines 26 at a position approximately midway between the right circumference ribbon 40 and the rear center ribbon 50. The second side ribbon 70 is disposed downward to pass approximately 3 inches behind the wearer's right ear to connect with the right circumference ribbon 40 at a position approximate to the wearer's occipital bone.

The termini of each of the left circumference ribbon 30, the right circumference ribbon 40, and the rear center ribbon 50 attach and secure together in a position approximate the nape of the wearer's neck to tautly engage the crown piece 20 atop the wearer's head without the aid of clips, combs, adhesives, or other means of attachment. The crownpiece 20, left circumference ribbon 30, right circumference ribbon 40, rear center ribbon 50, left side ribbon 60 (when present), and right side ribbon 70 (when present), are covered with, and concealed by, supplemental hair 500, whereby the wearer may tease out said wearer's natural hair 100 to display between the left and right circumference ribbons 30, 40 and each of the first and second side ribbons 60, 70 (when present), and the rear central ribbon 50.

As shown in FIGS. 7, 8, 9, and 10, the crownpiece 20 serves as a substrate for supplemental hair 500, which supplemental hair 500 is securely attached to the crownpiece. The left circumference ribbon 30, right circumference ribbon 40, rear center ribbon 50, rear circumference ribbon 80, and (when present) right and left side ribbons 60, 70, are also supplemented with supplemental hair 500. Once the hairpiece 10 is fitted to the wearer's head, the wearer's natural hair 100 is then blendable with the supplemental hair 500 by teasing the natural hair between the ribbons 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80. The effect is to render a full head of hair that matches the wearer's natural hair. See for example FIGS. 9 and 10.

Each of the ribbons provide taut engagement to conform to the skull of a user. The securement of the termini of each of the right and left circumference ribbons and the rear center ribbon together engage the hairpiece in position atop the wearer's head in a comfortable manner. Thus the present ribbon hairpiece 10 is securable atop a wearer's head without the use of clips, combs, or adhesives.

FIG. 11 illustrates an example embodiment wherein an existing topper 700 is rendered attachable to a plurality of ribbons 10. Securement to the head of the wearer is still effected by the plurality of ribbons 10, as described above. However, in this example embodiment the ribbons 10 are attachable to an existing topper 700 that is converted for attachment to the ribbons 10 by the addition of fastening elements 702 to attach to the ribbons 10. A wearer may, therefore, convert an existing topper 700 already in their possession to attach to the plurality of ribbons 10 and thereby render the topper securable to the wearer's head without the use of clips or adhesives attaching to the wearer's head, scalp, or natural hair directly. Thus the ribbons 10 maintain position of the topper 700 to the head of the wearer in like manner as.

In this example embodiment, the ribbons 10 are augmented with fastening elements 702 in position upon the ribbons 10 to attach to corresponding fastening elements 702 disposed upon the topper 700. In this example embodiment, the fastening elements 702 are disposed upon the left and right circumference ribbons 30, 32 in a position to attach to the underside of the existing topper 700. Additional fastening elements 702 are disposed upon the rear center ribbon 50 and, when present, each of the first and second side ribbons 60, 70. Fastening elements 702 are contemplated to be snaps or hook and loop elements which may be easily installed in the corresponding positions upon the ribbons 10 and the topper 700, whereby a wearer is enabled to convert an existing topper 700 for use with the plurality of ribbons 10 in lieu of clips or adhesive to secure the topper to the wearer's head.
