DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the resistance wheel exercise device. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of the resistance wheel exercise device. A resistance wheel exercise device 11 comprises a base 13 having a plurality of supports 14 extending outwardly therefrom, such that a distal end of each support 14 is affixed to the base 13. The base 13 and supports 14 are each composed of any suitable durable material, such as metal or reinforced plastic. In the illustrated embodiment, the base 13 comprises a rectangularly shaped frame having an open center, however in other embodiments the base 13 can comprise any suitably stable shape, such as a circle or a hexagon.

In the shown embodiment, the resistance wheel exercise device 11 comprises four supports 14, wherein each support 14 is permanently affixed to the base 13 and each support 14 is disposed at a corner of the base 13. Each support 14 is telescopic, such that in a retracted position an upper portion of each support 14 is slidably disposed within a lower portion of each respective support 14, whereas in an extended position the upper portion of each support 14 is fully extended from the lower portion of each respective support 14. In this way, the height of the resistance wheel device 11 is adjustable, thereby allowing a variety of individuals of varying heights to engage with the resistance wheel device 11 by providing a means to ensure the device is at the proper height for use.

The resistance wheel device 11 further comprises a housing 12. In the illustrated embodiment, the housing 12 is triangularly shaped, having a planar base, a planar back, and a sloped face 15. The housing 12 is disposed atop the plurality of supports 14, such that the base of the housing 12 is flush against a proximal end of each support 14. A wheel 16 protrudes outwardly from the sloped face 15 of the housing 12, such that the wheel 16 can be easily reached by the user.

The sloped face 15 of the housing 12 further comprises a display 17. In the illustrated embodiment, the display 17 is disposed on the sloped face 15 proximal to the back of the housing 12. Additionally, the display 17 is inclined away from the sloped face 15 such that the display 17 is parallel to the planar base of the housing 12. In this way, the display 17 is positioned in such a way as to be easy for the user to view the display 17 while gripping the wheel 16. The display 17 is configured to provide information to the user relating to their exercise performance, such as time elapsed, number of repetitions, calories burned, and current resistance level utilized.

Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a close-up perspective view of the wheel in the resistance wheel exercise device. A shaft 19 is disposed within the sloped face 15 of the housing 12. The shaft 19 extends along the sloped face 16, beginning below the display and ending at the opposing end of the sloped face 15.

A rotatable column 18 configured to rotate extends outwardly from the housing 12, such that a proximal end of the rotatable column 18 is disposed within the shaft 19. The rotatable column 18 is configured to be movable within the shaft 19, wherein the angle of the rotatable column 18 changes in response to the position of the rotatable column 18 within the shaft 19 such that the rotatable column 18 is oriented completely vertical when the rotatable column 18 is positioned nearest to the display at an upper end of the sloped face 15. In this way, the rotatable column 18 can be angularly adjusted depending on the preference of the user. Additionally, the rotatable column 18 is vertically adjustable, such that a height of the rotatable column 18 can be determined based on the user's preference. Altering the angle and height of the rotatable column 18 allows the user to determine their desired difficulty level when using the resistance wheel exercise device. Further, in some embodiments the display is configured to show the angle and height of the rotatable column 18 when exhibiting the exercise statistics mentioned previously.

The wheel 16 is disposed at a distal end of the rotatable column 18 opposite the shaft 19. In the shown embodiment, the wheel 16 is oriented perpendicular to the rotatable column 18, such that wheel 16 is always at an angle and height within reach for a user regardless of the angle and height of the rotatable column 18. The wheel 16 is configured to gripped by a user, such that the wheel 16 has an ergonomic shape. In some embodiments, a padding is disposed about the entire surface area of the wheel 16, however in other embodiments the padding is disposed at only specific areas around the wheel 16. In the shown embodiment, the wheel 16 is configured to resemble a traditional steering wheel from a vehicle, such that the wheel 16 affixes to the rotatable column 18 at a center of the wheel 16, being connected to the wheel 16 through one or more spokes extending from the rotatable column 18.

A resistance mechanism is operably connected to the rotatable column 18, wherein the user can adjust the resistance level using the display on the housing 12. The resistance mechanism is configured to make the wheel 16 difficult for a user to rotate, thereby requiring the user to isolate and use muscles not commonly targeted in traditional exercises. The rotatable column 18 is disposed within the shaft 19 in such a way that it is locked at the user's determined height and angle, such that rotating the wheel 16 does not adjust the height and angle of the rotatable column 18. In other embodiments, however, a user desiring a more extensive workout can choose a program that allows them to manipulate the angle and height of the rotatable column 18 while rotating the wheel 16, such that the rotatable column 18 completes a cycle moving through the full length of the shaft prior to the completion of the workout.

Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a perspective view of the resistance wheel exercise device in use. In operation a user 70 will adjust the support legs of the resistance wheel exercise device 11 such that height of the wheel 16 is level with their chest when the rotatable column 18 is upright in the shaft 19. The user will then choose their desired resistance level on the display 17. Finally, the user will grip the wheel 16 with at least one hand 71 and rotate the wheel 16 to begin exercising. In this way, a user is able to isolate specific arm and shoulder muscles while exercising.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in various embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
