DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new hanger device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 6, the adjustable clothes hanger assembly 10 generally comprises a clothes hanger 12 that is releasably suspended from a support 13, such as a closet rod or the like. The clothes hanger 12 has a first member 14 extending between a pair of second members 16, and the second members 16 intersect each other such that the clothes hanger 12 has a triangular shape. The clothes hanger 12 includes a hook 18 extending upwardly from an intersection between the second members 16. Moreover, the hook 18 curves downwardly toward the intersection thereby facilitating the hook 18 to engage the support 13. The first member 14 may have a length of approximately 22.0 cm.

Each of the second members 16 has an outwardly facing surface 30, and the outwardly facing surface 30 of each of the second members 16 has a plurality of bumps 32 thereon. The bumps 32 on each of the second members 16 are spaced apart from each other and are distributed from a point adjacent to the first member 14 toward the hook 18. The plurality of bumps 32 on each of the second members 16 include a first bump 34, a second bump 36 and a third bump 38.

A pair of extensions 40 is included and each of the extensions 40 is slidably coupled to the clothes hanger 12. Each of the extensions 40 is positionable to extend a selectable distance away from the clothes hanger 12 such that the clothes hanger 12 has an adjustable width. In this way the clothes hanger 12 can accommodate a variety of clothing sizes. Each of the extensions 40 comprises a first panel 42 extending between a pair of second panels 44. The second panels 44 associated with each of the extensions 40 are spaced apart from each other such that each of the extensions 40 forms a channel 46. The channel 46 in each of the extensions 40 receives a respective one of the second members 16 of the clothes hanger 12.

Each of the extensions 40 has a third panel 48 extending between each of the second panels 44 to define a box 50 on each of the extensions 40. The box 50 on each of the extensions 40 extends from a first end 52 of the extension along the channel 46 and the first end 52 of each of the extensions 40 is closed. Moreover, the first end 52 of each of the extensions 40 has an aperture 54 extending therethrough. The aperture 54 in each of the extensions 40 has one of the second members 16 of the clothes hanger 12 is associated therewith, and the aperture 54 in each of the extensions 40 has the associated second member 16 extending therethrough. In this way each of the extensions 40 is slidably retained on the clothes hanger 12.

The first panel 42 of each of the extensions 40 has a bottom surface 56 extending between the second panels 44. The bottom surface 56 of the first panel 42 of each of the extensions 40 has a detent 58 thereon, and the detent 58 on each of the extensions 40 has a respective one of the second members 16 of the clothes hanger 12 associated therewith. The detent 58 on each of the extensions 40 releasably engages a selected one of the first 34, second 36 and third 38 bumps on the associated second member 16.

Each of the extensions 40 extends a minimum distance laterally away from the associated second member 16 when the detent 58 in each of the extensions 40 releasably engages the first bump 34 on the associated second member 16. In this way the clothes hanger 12 can accommodate small clothing, such as children's clothing. Additionally, the clothes hanger 12 and each of the extensions 40 may have an overall width of approximately 22.0 cm when the extensions 40 engage the first bump 34. Each of the extensions 40 extends a medium distance laterally away from the associated second member 16 when the detent 58 in each of the extensions 40 releasably engages the second bump 36 on the associated second member 16. In this way the clothes hanger 12 can accommodate medium sized clothing, such as adult clothing. The clothes hanger 12 and each of the extensions 40 may have an overall width of approximately 33.0 cm when the extensions 40 engage the second bump 36.

Each of the extensions 40 extend a maximum distance laterally away from the associated second member 16 when the detent 58 in each of the extensions 40 releasably engages the third bump 38 on the associated second member 16. In this way the clothes hanger 12 can accommodate large sized clothing, such as plus sized adult clothing. The clothes hanger 12 and each of the extensions 40 may have an overall width of approximately 43.0 cm when the extensions 40 engage the third bump 38. Each of the second panels 44 on each of the extensions 40 has a distal edge 60 with respect to the first panel 42. Additionally, each of the second panels 44 on each of the extensions 40 has slot 62 extending from the distal edge 60 toward the first panel 42. The slot 62 on the second panels 44 on each of the extensions 40 extends from the box 50 on the associated extension toward a second end 64 of the associated extension.

In use, the extensions 40 are positioned such that the detent 58 in each of the extensions 40 engages the first bump 34 when children's clothing is to be hung on the clothes hanger 12. The extensions 40 are positioned such that the detent 58 in each of the extensions 40 engages the second bump 36 when adult clothing is to be hung on the clothes hanger 12. The extensions 40 are positioned such that the detent 58 in each of the extensions 40 engages the third bump 38 when the plus sized adult clothing is to be hung on the clothes hanger 12. Thus, the clothes hanger 12 and the extensions 40 facilitate any size and design of clothing to be hung on a single clothes hanger 12.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
