POCKET FOR IMPROVED POSTURE
A leg garment includes a waistband. A first leg sleeve and a second leg sleeve are attached to the waistband. At least the first leg sleeve includes a first posture pocket opening defined through an outer surface. The first posture pocket opening is disposed rearward of a side seam and is disposed at an angle relative to the waistband. The angle descends from a top of the first posture pocket opening to a bottom of the first posture pocket opening in a direction towards the seam. A first posture pocket is coupled to an inside of the first leg sleeve about a periphery of the first posture pocket opening.
This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 62/828,798, filed Apr. 3, 2019, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates to pockets and, more particularly, to pockets that are oriented to improve posture.
Pants and shorts have pockets to store items such wallets, phones, keys, and the like. Hands may also be placed within the pockets for comfort or other reasons. The standard location of front pockets negatively affects a user's posture when the user places their hands within the pockets for long periods of time.
As can be seen, there is a need for pockets that are oriented to improve posture.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONIn one aspect of the present invention, a garment comprises: a waistband; and a first leg sleeve and a second let sleeve attached to the waistband, wherein the first leg sleeve comprises a first posture pocket opening defined through an outer surface of the first leg sleeve, the first posture pocket opening disposed rearward of a side seam of the first leg sleeve and at an angle relative to the waistband, wherein the angle descends from a top of the first posture pocket opening to a bottom of the first posture pocket opening in a direction towards the seam, and a first posture pocket coupled to an inside of the first leg sleeve about a periphery of the first posture pocket opening.
These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
Referring to
The second leg sleeve 30b may include a second posture pocket opening 22 defined through an outer surface of the second leg sleeve 30b. The second posture pocket opening 22 is disposed rearward of a side seam 38 of the second leg sleeve 30b and at an angle relative to the waistband 11. The angle descends from a top of the second posture pocket opening 22 to a bottom of the second posture pocket opening 22 in a direction towards the seam 38. A second posture pocket 20 is coupled to an inside of the second leg sleeve 30b about a periphery of the second posture pocket opening 22.
The posture pockets 10, 20 are an alternative to standard pockets. The posture pockets 10, 20 are located along the sides of the pants at the user's 40 thighs. When in use, the posture pockets 10, 20 help improve posture by positioning hands 42 to the back of the upper thigh resulting in the pullback of the user's 40 shoulders and straightening of the back. Also, the position of the pockets prevent carrying items 50 in spots prone to loss or damage and places them in an easy and ergonomic position.
The Figures illustrate the present invention being incorporated with a pair of pants. The present invention may be utilized with different types of pants, such as jeans, dress pants, suit pants, hunting pants, uniform pants, military pants, and/or shorts. The pants can be made with different waist sizes and two legs with heights (or lengths) to fit people having different shapes. The pants can include a place (e.g., belt loops) to hold a belt in place and a zipper or button-up front crotch area. The pants can also include seams 34, 38 (or piping covering the seams) that extend along the length of the outer portion of the pant legs 30, 34.
The posture pockets 10, 20 can be made of cloth or fabric such as, e.g., cotton, polyester, leather, or other appropriate type of material. The posture pockets 10, 20 can be made of the same type material as that of the pants; however in some implementations a different material may be used. The size of the posture pockets 10, 20 is about the same as that of the first front pocket 32 and the second front pocket 36.
As illustrated in
It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
