FIELD OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates generally to a sleeping system for providing a support surface for at least one person. More specifically, the present invention is an interchangeable top comfort layer that can be selectively changed from a core with ease to accommodate different user comfort levels.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONStandard mattress designs have evolved very little in the past decades. A standard mattress generally includes a core and a top layer disposed on the top surface of the core. The top layer forms a support surface for supporting at least one person thereon. Mattresses are commercially available for purchase in varying degrees of firmness. A purchaser can select to buy a mattress having soft, medium, or firm support. However, after purchase, the purchaser is typically unable to adjust the firmness of the mattress. It is also difficult to return the mattress due to its size and weight. Therefore, should the purchaser be dissatisfied with either the feel or support of the mattress, the purchaser has no option but to endure the unpleasant characteristics of the mattress or try to sell it. Since mattresses are expensive, these are not optimum options. Even though advance mattresses that can electrically or pneumatically adjust the firmness are available to consumers, these advance mattress are highly expensive generally not affordable majority of the consumers. Moreover, a mattress is an important purchase and is intended to provide the user with a sleeping surface that can last for years. However, like any piece of furniture, a mattress during normal use, may be exposed to a substantial amount of wear, as well as to accidental spillage that can stain and/or degrade the top layer and/or the core of the mattress. Existing mattress designs do not allow users to exchange or replace the top layer, and thus users are forced to dispose of the entire mattress.
The present invention aims to solve some of these problems by disclosing a mattress with a customizable top layer, which allows users to customize the mattress to their individual comfort level. Due to the configuration, the customizable top layer provide an affordable, simple, and easy solution to the adjusting the firmness of the mattress.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention is a mattress that has a customizable top layer. The top layer can be attached to and detached from the core portion conveniently, allowing the top layer to be replaced, so as to provide different firmness. Moreover, the top layer can comprise two substantially equal halves which are designed to provide varying degrees of firmness.
All illustrations of the drawings are for the purpose of describing selected versions of the present invention and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention.
The present invention is a mattress with a customizable top layer so that the user is able to removable, replaceable, or interchangeable top layer upon user's preference. As a result, the present invention allows a user or manufacturer to customize the top layer to vary one or more of firmness, softness, materials, compressibility, and thickness. The present invention comprises a first cover 1, a core 3, at least one comfort layer 12, at least one second cover 16, a plurality of fastening mechanisms 22, and a casing 33 as shown in
In reference to
The core 3 is removably enclosed within the first cover 1 that functions as a protective enclosure. Preferably, the first cover 1 is a water-proof and abrasion-resistant enclosure so that the moisture and abrasion can be eliminated from the present invention. More specifically, the inside of the first cover 1 is accessed through an opening of the first cover 1 so that the core 3 can be inserted into the first cover 1. The opening is integrated with a zip fastener or any other types of similar quick fasteners thus allowing the user to close the opening once the core 3 is positioned within.
In reference to
The at least one comfort layer 12 is removably enclosed within the at least one second cover 16 that functions as a protective enclosure. Preferably, the at least one second cover 16 is a water-proof and abrasion-resistant enclosure so that the moisture and abrasion can be eliminated from the present invention. More specifically, the inside of the at least one second cover 16 is accessed through an opening of the at least one second cover 16 so that the at least one comfort layer 12 can be inserted into the at least one second cover 16. The opening is integrated with a zip fastener or any other types of similar quick fasteners thus allowing the user to close the opening once the at least one comfort layer 12 is positioned within.
In reference to
In one embodiment, each of the plurality of fastening mechanisms 22 is preferably a hook and loop fastener. For example, the bottom surface 18 of the at least one second cover 16 may be integrated with hook portions of the hook and loop fasteners, and the top surface 2 of the first cover 1 may be integrated with corresponding loop portions of the hook and loop fasteners. In another embodiment, the releasable attachment members comprise zippers. In this embodiment, each of the plurality of fastening mechanisms 22 can be zippers that is may be attached along the perimeter of the at least one comfort layer 12 and the core 3 and thus connect the at least one comfort layer 12 to the core 3. Furthermore, the plurality of fastening mechanisms 22 is not limited to aforementioned apparatus and can be any other types of industry standard quick fastening mechanisms 22 that enable the connection between the at least one second cover 16 and the first cover 1.
In reference to
In reference to
In some embodiment of the present invention, the at least one comfort layer 12 is a single layer 13 that expands atop the core 3 and the at least one second cover 16 is a single cover 19. Due to the single layer 13 configuration, the present invention provides a uniform comfort level and firmness throughout the present invention. The uniform comfort level and firmness of the present invention is preferably utilized as single user occupancy; however, it can also support two or occupants. In reference to
In some embodiment of the present invention, the at least one comfort layer 12 is a left layer 14 and a right layer 15 that expand atop the core 3. The at least one second cover 16 is a left cover 20 and a right cover 21. Due to the dual layer configuration, the present invention provides two substantially equal half sections that are configured to provide different comfort levels and firmness. The dual comfort levels and firmness of the present invention is preferably utilized as double user occupancy; however, it can also a single occupant. In this configuration, the left layer 14 and the right layer 15 can be selectively changed by the users, and each user is able to choose his desired level of firmness. In reference to
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
