Sanding Tool Attachment
A sanding tool attachment includes an annular attachment body, a plurality of dust extraction holes, a tool fastening feature, a primary hook fastening feature, and a secondary fastening feature. The annular attachment body includes a first base wall, a second base wall, a lateral wall, and a central axis. The plurality of dust extraction holes is radially distributed around the central axis and traverses from the first base wall to the second base wall. The tool fastening feature is integrated onto the first base wall so that the sanding tool attachment can be secured to a random orbital sander. The primary hook fastening feature is integrated onto the second base wall and removably secures existing round sanding pads to the sanding tool attachment. The secondary fastener feature is integrated onto the lateral wall thus fastening a rectangular sanding strip to the sanding tool attachment.

FIELD OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention generally relates to a random orbital sander. More specifically, the present invention relates to a sanding tool attachment to a random orbital sander in order to sand a plurality of surfaces simultaneously.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONA sander is a power tool used to smooth surfaces by abrasion with sandpaper. Sanders have a means to attach the sandpaper and a mechanism to move it rapidly contained within a housing with means to hand-hold it or fix it to a workbench. There are many different types of sanders for different purposes. Multi-purpose power tools and electric drills may have sander attachments. Often times, user may only need to sand a single surface which can be done efficiently with electric sanding tools such as random orbital sanders. Current random orbital sanders can be used for a multitude of errands from polishing a car to grinding a wall. However, there are instances where a user can sand down multiple surfaces that are near each other at once (ex; an edge grain and a face grain of adjacently positioned clapboards). This opportunity can cut down on work time significantly. Current sanders do not provide a solution for grinding orthogonal surfaces simultaneously though the tools are capable of doing so.
An objective of the present design is to provide the user with a sanding tool attachment that may be attached to a random orbital sander. The sanding tool attachment provides the user with a tool fastening feature so that the present invention can be attached to a random orbital sander. The sanding tool attachment also provides the user with two other fastening features so that the present invention can secure a round sanding pad and a rectangular sanding strip. More specifically, the round sanding pad, the rectangular sanding strip, and the sanding tool attachment create a pair of functional surfaces that allow the user to sand orthogonal surfaces simultaneously.
All illustrations of the drawings are for the purpose of describing selected versions of the present invention and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention.
The present invention is a sanding tool attachment that is utilized within a random orbital sander to sand a plurality of surfaces simultaneously. More specifically, the present invention enables the user to attain a flat sanding surface and a lateral sanding surface so that orthogonal surfaces can be simultaneously sanded. For example, the present invention can be utilized to simultaneously sand an edge gain surface of an arbitrary clapboard and a face grain surface of adjacent clapboard. In reference to

In alternate embodiment of the abrasive paper that is compatible with the present invention, the abrasive paper comprises a circular body with a first strip and a second strip positioned on a planar surface shown in
In another alternate embodiment of the abrasive paper that is compatible with the present invention, the abrasive paper may comprise a plurality of slits and a circular structure that further comprises a first surface and a second surface as seen in
In another alternate embodiment of the abrasive paper that is compatible with the present invention, the abrasive paper may comprise a cap in which further comprises a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is integrated with a loop fastener system that allows the first surface to attach to the second base wall 3 and the lateral wall 4. The second surface is manufactured as the abrasive surface of any grit size. Once the cap is slide onto the annular attachment body 1, a round section of the cap is attached to the primary hook fastener feature 8, and a rim section of the cap is attached to the secondary hook fastener feature 10.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
