MEDICAL FACE SHIELD DEVICE

A medical face shield device is provided and includes a visor, a face shield, and an elastic strap. The face shield has apertures at locations that align with protrusions of the visor when the visor is attached to the face shield for attachment. The elastic strap is attached to the visor by feeding the elastic strap through the plurality of slots. The elastic strap is held in place and attached to the visor solely by friction between the plurality of slots and the elastic strap without use of an additional attachment mechanism to attach the elastic strap to the visor.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

FIELD

The present disclosure relates to medical face shield devices.

BACKGROUND

This section provides background information related to the present disclosure which is not necessarily prior art.

Medical face shield devices can be used to protect a user's face from airborne pathogens. For example, medical face shield devices can be used while a user is providing medical assistance to a patient to prevent airborne pathogens from the patient from entering the user's mouth, eyes, nose, and/or ears. For further example, airborne pathogens may be contained in droplets of saliva or mucus from the patient as the patient exhales, coughs, sneezes, etc. The medical face shield device can prevent those droplets, and any airborne pathogens contained in those droplets, from entering the user's mouth, eyes, nose, and/or ears. In this way, the medical face shield device can prevent the airborne pathogens from the patient from infecting the user while the user is wearing the medical face shield device.

A medical face shield device is provided and includes a visor having a plurality of protrusions and a plurality of slots. The medical face shield device also includes a face shield having a plurality of apertures at locations on the face shield that align with the plurality of protrusions of the visor when the visor is attached to the face shield, the face shield being configured for attachment to the visor by the plurality of apertures receiving the plurality of protrusions, and the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of apertures being configured to hold the face shield against the visor when the plurality of protrusions are received by the plurality of apertures. The medical face shield device also includes an elastic strap, the elastic strap being attached to the visor by feeding the elastic strap through the plurality of slots. The elastic strap is held in place and attached to the visor solely by friction between the plurality of slots and the elastic strap without use of an additional attachment mechanism to attach the elastic strap to the visor.

In other features, the plurality of slots includes a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot and the elastic strap is attached to the visor by feeding a terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot from a top side of the visor, then feeding the terminal end into the second slot from a bottom side of the visor, and then feeding the terminal end into the third slot from the top side of the visor such that the terminal end hangs below the third slot after the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

In other features, the plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.

In other features, the plurality of slots includes a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot and the elastic strap is attached to the visor by feeding a terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot from a bottom side of the visor, then feeding the terminal end into the second slot from a top side of the visor, and then feeding the terminal end into the third slot from the bottom side of the visor such that the terminal end rests on the top side of the visor after the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

In other features, the plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.

In other features, the plurality of slots are located on the visor at a location adjacent to a temple of a user when the user is wearing the medical face shield device over a face of the user.

Another medical face shield device is provided and includes a visor having a plurality of protrusions, a first plurality of slots, and a second plurality of slots, the first and second plurality of slots being located on opposite sides of the visor. The medical face shield device also includes a face shield having a plurality of apertures at locations on the face shield that align with the plurality of protrusions of the visor when the visor is attached to the face shield, the face shield being configured for attachment to the visor by the plurality of apertures receiving the plurality of protrusions, and the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of apertures being configured to hold the face shield against the visor when the plurality of protrusions are received by the plurality of apertures. The medical face shield device also includes an elastic strap having a first terminal end and a second terminal end, the elastic strap being attached to the visor by feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap through the first plurality of slots and the second terminal end of the elastic strap through the second plurality of slots. The elastic strap is held in place and attached to the visor solely by friction between the elastic strap and the first and second plurality of slots without use of an additional attachment mechanism to attach the elastic strap to the visor.

In other features, the first and second plurality of slots are located on the visor such that when a user wears the medical face shield device with the face shield covering a face of the user, the first and second plurality of slots are located on opposite sides of a head of the user.

In other features, the first and second plurality of slots are located adjacent to first and second temples of the head of the user.

A method is also provided an includes attaching a visor of a medical face shield device to a face shield of the medical face shield device, the visor having a plurality of protrusions and the face shield having a plurality of apertures, by aligning the plurality of protrusions with the plurality of apertures such that the plurality of protrusions are received by the plurality of apertures and such that the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of apertures hold the face shield against the visor, the visor having a first plurality of slots and a second plurality of slots, the first and second plurality of slots being located on opposite sides of the visor. The method also includes attaching an elastic strap having a first terminal end and a second terminal end to the visor by feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap through the first plurality of slots and the second terminal end of the elastic strap through the second plurality of slots. The elastic strap is held in place and attached to the visor solely by friction between the elastic strap and the first and second plurality of slots without use of an additional attachment mechanism to attach the elastic strap to the visor.

In other features, the method also includes attaching the medical face shield device to a user by stretching the elastic strap around a head of the user so that the elastic strap holds an inner surface of the visor against the head of the user, wherein the first and second plurality of slots are located on the visor such that when the medical face shield device is attached to the user with the face shield covering a face of the user, the first and second plurality of slots are located on opposite sides of the head of the user.

In other features, the first and second plurality of slots are located adjacent to first and second temples of the head of the user.

In other features, the first and second plurality of slots each include a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot, and attaching the elastic strap to the visor includes feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the first plurality of slots from a top side of the visor, feeding the first terminal end into the second slot of the first plurality of slots from a bottom side of the visor, feeding the first terminal end into the third slot of the first plurality of slots from the top side of the visor such that the first terminal end hangs below the third slot of the first plurality of slots after first terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor, feeding the second terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor, feeding the second terminal end into the second slot of the second plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor, and feeding the second terminal end into the third slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor such that the second terminal end hangs below the third slot of the second plurality of slots after the second terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Example embodiments will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings.

With reference to FIG. 1, a medical face shield device 10 is illustrated being worn by a user to cover the user's face. The face shield device 10 can, for example, protect the user's face from airborne pathogens while the user is providing medical assistance to a patient. For example, the medical face shield device 10 can be used while a user is providing medical assistance to a patient to prevent airborne pathogens from the patient from entering the user's mouth, eyes, nose, and/or ears. For further example, airborne pathogens may be contained in droplets of saliva or mucus from the patient as the patient exhales, coughs, sneezes, etc. The medical face shield device 10 can prevent those droplets, and any airborne pathogens contained in those droplets, from entering the user's mouth, eyes, nose, and/or ears. In this way, the medical face shield device 10 can prevent the airborne pathogens from the patient from infecting the user while the user is wearing the medical face shield device 10.

The medical face shield device 10 includes a visor 12 and a face shield 14 that attaches to the visor 12. In particular, the face shield 14 can wrap around and form to correspond to the shape of the perimeter edge of the visor 12. The face shield 14 can be, for example, a clear polycarbonate sheet having a thickness of 0.5 millimeters, although other thicknesses can be used. The face shield 14 can have sufficient flexibility to wrap around the perimeter of the visor 12 when attached to the visor 12. The face shield 14 can be sufficiently sized to cover the user's eyes, nose, and mouth. The face shield 14 can also be sufficiently sized to cover the user's ears.

The medical face shield device 10 also includes an elastic strap 24 that attaches to the visor 12 and holds the visor 12 and face shield 14 in place on the user's head. The elastic strap 24 attaches to the visor 12 via an elastic strap locking mechanism 16, shown in further detail with reference to FIGS. 2A to 2E. For example, as shown in FIGS. 1 to 3B, the visor 12 can include two elastic strap locking mechanisms 16 on opposite sides or ends of the visor located adjacent to the user's temples when the user is wearing the medical face shield device 10. For example, as shown in FIGS. 1 to 3B, the two elastic strap locking mechanisms 16 can be located on the opposite sides or ends of the visor such that the elastic strap locking mechanisms are located on opposite sides of the user's head when the user is wearing the medical face shield device 10.

With reference to FIGS. 2A to 2B, each of the elastic strap locking mechanisms 16 has a ladder design with a plurality of slots 18, 20, 22. While three slots 18, 20, 22 are shown in each of the elastic strap locking mechanisms 16 in the FIGS., additional or fewer slots can be used. The slots 18, 20, 22 have a sufficient width to receive an end of the elastic strap 24. For example, the slots can 18, 20, 22 can have a width that corresponds to, or is slightly larger than, the width of the elastic strap 24.

FIGS. 2A to 2E illustrate different stages of attaching the elastic strap 24 to one of the elastic strap locking mechanisms 16. For example, in FIG. 2A, the elastic strap 24 is shown just before it is attached to the elastic strap locking mechanism 16. FIG. 2B illustrates the elastic strap after it has been fed through a first slot 18 of the elastic strap locking mechanism 16. As shown in FIG. 2B, the elastic strap 24 enters the first slot 18 from a top side of the first slot 18 and exits the first slot 18 from a bottom side of the first slot 18.

FIG. 2C illustrates the elastic strap 24 after it has been fed through the first slot 18 as well as the second slot 20. As shown in FIG. 2C, the elastic strap 24 enters the second slot 20 from a bottom side of the second slot 20 and exits the second slot 20 from a top side of the second slot 20.

FIG. 2D illustrates the elastic strap 24 after it has been fed through the first slot 18 and the second slot 20 as well as the third slot 22. As shown in FIG. 2D, the elastic strap 24 enters the third slot 22 from a top side of the third slot 22 and exits the third slot 20 from a bottom side of the third slot 22.

FIGS. 2B through 2D illustrate the elastic strap 24 as it is loosely fed through the plurality of slots 18, 20, 22.

FIG. 2E illustrates the elastic strap 24 after it has been pulled tight to remove slack in the elastic strap 24 present in the plurality of slots 18, 20, 22 of the elastic strap locking mechanism 16. As shown in FIG. 2E, the elastic strap 24 is pulled slightly in a direction away from the elastic strap locking mechanism 16 to engage the elastic strap locking mechanism.

Once the elastic strap 24 has been fed through the plurality of slots 18, 20, 22 of the elastic strap locking mechanism 16 and the slack has been removed, the friction between the plurality of slots 18, 20, 22 of the elastic strap locking mechanism 16 hold the elastic strap 24 in place. In this way, the elastic strap 24 can be installed to engage with the elastic strap locking mechanism 16 in the manner described above and the medical face shield device 10 can then be worn by the user, as shown in FIG. 1, and held in place on the head of the user to protect the face of the user. In this way, an additional or separate locking or attachment mechanism is not needed to attach the elastic strap to the visor 12.

Further, a size of the loop of the elastic strap 24 and/or a tightness of the medical face shield device 10 on the user can be adjusted by pulling more or less of the elastic strap 24 through the elastic strap locking mechanism 16. For example, pulling more of the elastic strap 24 through the elastic strap locking mechanism 16 towards a front of the visor 12 will tighten loop of the elastic strap 24 and tighten the medical face shield device 10 against the user's head and face. Pulling some of the elastic strap 24 out from elastic strap locking mechanism 16 in a direction away from visor 12 will loosen the loop of the elastic strap 24 and loosen the medical face shield device against the user's head and face.

In FIGS. 2A to 2E, the elastic strap 24 is shown entering the first slot 18 from a top side of the visor 12, entering the second slot 20 from a bottom side of the visor, and entering the third slot 22 from a top side of the visor, with a terminal end of the elastic strap 24 hanging downward from the third slot 22. In an alternative embodiment, the elastic strap 24 can instead enter the first slot 18 from the bottom side of the visor, enter the second slot 20 from the top side of the visor 12, and enter the third slot 22 from the bottom side of the visor 12. In this way, the terminal end of the elastic strap 24 would be located on the top side of the visor 12.

With reference to FIGS. 3A and 3B, attachment of the face shield 14 to the visor 12 is illustrated. The visor 12 has a plurality of protrusions 30, 32, 34, 36 positioned around an exterior edge of the visor 12. The face shield 14 has apertures 40, 42, 44, 46 positioned around a top edge of the face shield 14 at positions corresponding to the protrusions 30, 32, 34, 36. The protrusions 30, 32, 34, 36 are sized and configured such that when the protrusions 30, 32, 34, 36 are received by the apertures 40, 42, 44, 46, the face shield 14 is attached to the visor 12 and locked in to place.

Claims

1. A medical face shield device comprising:

a visor having a plurality of protrusions and a plurality of slots;
a face shield having a plurality of apertures at locations on the face shield that align with the plurality of protrusions of the visor when the visor is attached to the face shield, the face shield being configured for attachment to the visor by the plurality of apertures receiving the plurality of protrusions, and the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of apertures being configured to hold the face shield against the visor when the plurality of protrusions are received by the plurality of apertures; and
an elastic strap, the elastic strap being attached to the visor by feeding the elastic strap through the plurality of slots;
wherein the elastic strap is held in place and attached to the visor solely by friction between the plurality of slots and the elastic strap without use of an additional attachment mechanism to attach the elastic strap to the visor.

The medical face shield device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of slots includes a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot and the elastic strap is attached to the visor by feeding a terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot from a top side of the visor, then feeding the terminal end into the second slot from a bottom side of the visor, and then feeding the terminal end into the third slot from the top side of the visor such that the terminal end hangs below the third slot after the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

3. The medical face shield device of claim 2, wherein the plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.

4. The medical face shield device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of slots includes a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot and the elastic strap is attached to the visor by feeding a terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot from a bottom side of the visor, then feeding the terminal end into the second slot from a top side of the visor, and then feeding the terminal end into the third slot from the bottom side of the visor such that the terminal end rests on the top side of the visor after the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

5. The medical face shield device of claim 4, wherein the plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.

6. The medical face shield device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of slots are located on the visor at a location adjacent to a temple of a user when the user is wearing the medical face shield device over a face of the user.

7. A medical face shield device comprising:

a visor having a plurality of protrusions, a first plurality of slots, and a second plurality of slots, the first and second plurality of slots being located on opposite sides of the visor;
a face shield having a plurality of apertures at locations on the face shield that align with the plurality of protrusions of the visor when the visor is attached to the face shield, the face shield being configured for attachment to the visor by the plurality of apertures receiving the plurality of protrusions, and the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of apertures being configured to hold the face shield against the visor when the plurality of protrusions are received by the plurality of apertures; and
an elastic strap having a first terminal end and a second terminal end, the elastic strap being attached to the visor by feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap through the first plurality of slots and the second terminal end of the elastic strap through the second plurality of slots;
wherein the elastic strap is held in place and attached to the visor solely by friction between the elastic strap and the first and second plurality of slots without use of an additional attachment mechanism to attach the elastic strap to the visor.

8. The medical face shield device of claim 7, wherein the first and second plurality of slots are located on the visor such that when a user wears the medical face shield device with the face shield covering a face of the user, the first and second plurality of slots are located on opposite sides of a head of the user.

9. The medical face shield device of claim 8, wherein the first and second plurality of slots are located adjacent to first and second temples of the head of the user.

10. The medical face shield device of claim 8, wherein:

the first and second plurality of slots each include a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot and the elastic strap is attached to the visor by feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the first plurality of slots from a top side of the visor, then feeding the first terminal end into the second slot of the first plurality of slots from a bottom side of the visor, and then feeding the first terminal end into the third slot of the first plurality of slots from the top side of the visor such that the first terminal end hangs below the third slot of the first plurality of slots after first terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor, and by feeding the second terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor, then feeding the second terminal end into the second slot of the second plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor, and then feeding the second terminal end into the third slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor such that the second terminal end hangs below the third slot of the second plurality of slots after the second terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

11. The medical face shield device of claim 10, wherein the first and second plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.

12. The medical face shield device of claim 8, wherein:

the first and second plurality of slots each include a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot and the elastic strap is attached to the visor by feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the first plurality of slots from a bottom side of the visor, then feeding the first terminal end into the second slot of the first plurality of slots from a top side of the visor, and then feeding the first terminal end into the third slot of the first plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor such that the first terminal end rests on the top side of the visor after the first terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor, and by feeding the second terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the second plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor, then feeding the second terminal end into the second slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor, and then feeding the second terminal end into the third slot of the second plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor such that the second terminal end rests on the top side of the visor after the first terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

13. The medical face shield device of claim 12, wherein the first and second plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.

14. A method comprising:

attaching a visor of a medical face shield device to a face shield of the medical face shield device, the visor having a plurality of protrusions and the face shield having a plurality of apertures, by aligning the plurality of protrusions with the plurality of apertures such that the plurality of protrusions are received by the plurality of apertures and such that the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of apertures hold the face shield against the visor, the visor having a first plurality of slots and a second plurality of slots, the first and second plurality of slots being located on opposite sides of the visor; and
attaching an elastic strap having a first terminal end and a second terminal end to the visor by feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap through the first plurality of slots and the second terminal end of the elastic strap through the second plurality of slots;
wherein the elastic strap is held in place and attached to the visor solely by friction between the elastic strap and the first and second plurality of slots without use of an additional attachment mechanism to attach the elastic strap to the visor.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising attaching the medical face shield device to a user by stretching the elastic strap around a head of the user so that the elastic strap holds an inner surface of the visor against the head of the user, wherein the first and second plurality of slots are located on the visor such that when the medical face shield device is attached to the user with the face shield covering a face of the user, the first and second plurality of slots are located on opposite sides of the head of the user.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the first and second plurality of slots are located adjacent to first and second temples of the head of the user.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the first and second plurality of slots each include a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot, and attaching the elastic strap to the visor includes:

feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the first plurality of slots from a top side of the visor;
feeding the first terminal end into the second slot of the first plurality of slots from a bottom side of the visor;
feeding the first terminal end into the third slot of the first plurality of slots from the top side of the visor such that the first terminal end hangs below the third slot of the first plurality of slots after first terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor;
feeding the second terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor;
feeding the second terminal end into the second slot of the second plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor; and
feeding the second terminal end into the third slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor such that the second terminal end hangs below the third slot of the second plurality of slots after the second terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the first and second plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.

19. The method of claim 14, the first and second plurality of slots each include a first slot, a second slot, and a third slot, and attaching the elastic strap to the visor includes:

feeding the first terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the first plurality of slots from a bottom side of the visor;
feeding the first terminal end into the second slot of the first plurality of slots from a top side of the visor;
feeding the first terminal end into the third slot of the first plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor such that the first terminal rests on the top side of the visor after the first terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor;
feeding the second terminal end of the elastic strap into the first slot of the second plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor;
feeding the second terminal end into the second slot of the second plurality of slots from the top side of the visor; and
feeding the second terminal end into the third slot of the second plurality of slots from the bottom side of the visor such that the second terminal end rests on the top side of the visor after the first terminal end of the elastic strap is attached to the visor.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the first and second plurality of slots each have a slot width that corresponds to a width of the elastic strap.
