BACKGROUND Field of the Invention

An article of protective clothing including a garment for covering at least an upper portion of the body of a wearer; the garment including: a mask element coupled to the garment wherein the mask element can adopt a stowed position and a deployed position in which the mask element extends forward to cover the nose and/or mouth of the wearer.

Technical Field

Generally, the present invention relates to protective clothing.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART

Working in dusty environments can cause workers to succumb to various dust diseases. This is due to inhalation of airborne particles and pollutants. However, workers often misplace their protective masks worn to filter out a substantial portion of airborne particles. Also, masks are often damaged from being dropped and then inadvertently trodden on and often masks can be viewed as difficult and unwieldy and as a result are simply not donned.

In addition to environments with airborne particulate matter, masks are being more commonly worn due to concern over contraction of airborne diseases. This is particularly the case in areas of the world that are densely populated such as in cities and on public transportation.

The present invention seeks to ameliorate one or more of the abovementioned disadvantages. The present invention also seeks to provide protective clothing that includes a mask element that is easily deployable in any situation where a user may feel they need to wear a mask.

None of the previous inventions and patents, taken either singly or in combination, is seen to describe the instant invention as claimed. Hence, the inventor of the present invention proposes to resolve and surmount existent technical difficulties to eliminate the aforementioned shortcomings of prior art.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein. It is to be understood, however, that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or manner.

In accordance with one embodiment the present invention provides an article of protective clothing including a garment for covering at least an upper body of a wearer; the garment comprising a shirt type folded collar; and a mask element in the form of a bright, concave or closed loop, and which extends from an anchor region on one side or rear of the shirt type folded collar to another anchor region or rear of the shirt type folded collar on the other side, wherein the mask element when connected to the shirt type folded collar can adopt a stowed position in which at least a portion of the mask is disposed on an under surface of the shirt type folded collar so as to be substantially hidden from view under the over fold of the collar, and a deployed position in which the mask extends forward to cover the nose and mouth of the wearer. In this embodiment, the mask element acts as a filter and may be detachable. The mask element may also be affixed to the under fold of the collar by hook and loop fasteners.

The mask element may be machine washable, and may be rated to Australian dust standard of P1 or P2 or any other dust standard for such analogous protection in other jurisdiction around the world.

In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention there is provided a method of portably inhibiting ingestion of dust and airborne pollution, the method including the steps of: providing a mask element in a stowed position under an over fold of a shirt collar of a shirt worn by a wearer, the mask element extending in a closed loop or bight from one anchor region on one side of the collar or a rear portion thereof to another anchor region on another side or the rear thereof, the mask element being substantially hidden from view in the stowed position; deploying the mask element by unfolding the over fold and extending the mask element over the wearers head so that the mask element extends from the anchor regions to cover the mouth and nose of the wearer.

According to a further embodiment of the present invention there is provided a mask element adapted to be attached either permanently or removably to the under fold of a collar of a shirt, the mask element, when connected to the collar is in the form of a bright, concave or closed loop, and which extends from one anchor region on one side of the collar or its rear to another anchor region on another side of the collar or its rear, the mask element being configured to adopt a stowed position in which at least a portion of the mask is disposed on an under surface of the collar so as to be substantially hidden from view under the over fold of the collar, and a deployed position in which the mask extends forward to cover the nose and mouth of the wearer.

While a specific embodiment has been shown and described, many variations are possible. With time, additional features may be employed. The particular shape or configuration of the platform or the interior configuration may be changed to suit the system or equipment with which it is used.
