DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new vacuuming device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the air grinder vacuuming assembly 10 generally comprises a shield 12 that is removably attachable to an air grinder 14 such that the shield 12 surrounds a grinding disk 16 on the air grinder 14. In this way the shield 12 can contain dust and debris produced by the grinding disk 16. The air grinder 14 may be a right angle, pneumatic grinder of any conventional design. The shield 12 has an upper wall 18 and a perimeter lip 20 extending downwardly therefrom, the upper wall 18 has an upper surface 22 and a lower surface 24, and the perimeter lip 20 has a distal edge 26 with respect to the upper wall 18. The distal edge 26 has a recessed portion 28 extending partially around the circumference of the perimeter lip 20 to accommodate a tool for removing the grinding disk 16 from the air grinder 14.

The upper wall 18 has a drive opening 32 extending through the upper surface 22 and the lower surface 24 for accommodating a drive portion 34 of the air grinder 14. The drive opening 32 is centrally positioned on the upper wall 18. Additionally, the shield 12 has a suction opening 36 extending through the upper surface 22 and the lower surface 24. The suction opening 36 is positioned between the drive opening 32 and the perimeter lip 20.

A coupler 38 is coupled to the shield 12 such that the coupler 38 surrounds the drive portion 34 of the air grinder 14 when the shield 12 is positioned on the air grinder 14. The coupler 38 is tightenable to engage the drive portion 34 for retaining the shield 12 on the air grinder 14. The coupler 38 extends upwardly from the upper surface 22 of the upper wall 18 and the coupler 38 extends around the drive opening 32 in the upper wall 18. The coupler 38 has a pair of terminal ends 40 each being directed away from the drive opening 32. The terminal ends 40 are urged toward each other when the coupler 38 is tightened for engaging the drive portion 34. Moreover, the terminal ends 40 are urged away from each other when the coupler 38 is loosened for disengaging the drive portion 34.

A tube 42 is provided that is fluidly coupled to the shield 12 such that the tube 42 is in fluid communication with the grinding disk 16. In this way the dust and debris can pass through the tube 42. The tube 42 is fluidly attachable to a vacuum source 44 to facilitate the dust and debris to be sucked away from the air grinder 14. The tube 42 has a first portion 46 forming an angle with a second portion 48. The first portion 46 has a first end 50 and the second portion 48 has a second end 52. The first end 50 is coupled to the upper surface 22 of the upper wall 18 having the first portion 46 surrounding the suction opening 36. Additionally, the second portion 48 is directed laterally away from the shield 12 and the second portion 48 engages a vacuum hose of the vacuum source 44. The vacuum source 44 may be a shop vacuum, a dust collection system or any other type of mechanized vacuum source 44 that can collect dust and debris.

In use, the drive portion 34 of the air grinder 14 is extended through the drive opening 32 in the shield 12, the coupler 38 is tightened to retain the shield 12 on the air grinder 14 and the vacuum hose is attached to the tube 42. In this way the vacuum source 44 suctionally removes the dust and debris from the shield 12 when the air grinder 14 is employed for grinding. Thus, a user of the air grinder 14 is protected from inhaling the dust and debris that is produced during grinding work. Additionally, the grinding disk 16 on the air grinder 14 can be replaced while the shield 12 is coupled to the air grinder 14.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
