Quick Change Magazine Holder

A quick change handgun magazine holder is provided. The handgun magazine holder includes a vertical back plate with an angled member attachment, affixed to a rear face of the vertical back plate. The angled member secures the firearm magazine holder to a standard belt clip. The front face of the vertical back plate includes a base plate perpendicular to the vertical back plate. A pair of side flaps are disposed on opposing side edges of the vertical back plate. The pair of side flaps extend forward from the vertical back plate and include a tab on a distal end of each side flap. The vertical back plate, the base plate, the pair of side flaps form a cavity for a handgun magazine to be placed therein. The pair of side flaps includes a downwardly angled upper edge to facilitate quick reloading of a handgun.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/108,969 filed on Nov. 3, 2020, The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a magazine holder. More specifically, the present invention provides a magazine holder that includes a planar vertical base plate, and a pair of lower clips, wherein the lower cli pair of lower clips includes an angled upper edge to facilitate quick reloading.

Law enforcement officers and members of the military regularly carry a handgun when they are on duty. In most circumstances, the purpose for law enforcement officers and members of the military to have possession of a handgun is to provide them with protection or to prevent an individual from harming others. Due to the limited number of bullets that may be placed within a handgun magazine, it is common that a handgun user will carry additional handgun magazines on their persons when in need of reloading the handgun. However, the reloading of a new magazine into a handgun may take a considerable amount of time. In situations where people, such as a law enforcement officer or a member of the military, need to swiftly replace an empty magazine, the time required to reload a handgun may cause them to be exposed to potential harm or even death. A means to shorten the time it takes to replace the magazine will limit the exposure that the firearm user has when in a high-stakes situation.

Reloading a handgun with a new magazine typically requires the use of two hands. Moreover, for firearm users that possess a handicap that limits their ability to use both of their hands or a person that has one hand occupied with holding another object, reloading a handgun magazine may be cumbersome. The user will typically have one hand on the handgun to release the used magazine and to maintain support for the handgun. The second hand will lift the replacement magazine towards the handgun and will insert the replacement magazine into the appropriate inlet on the handgun. The orientation of the magazine is important to assure that the magazine is properly secured within the handgun. When the handgun user does not have the ability to use both hands to replace a magazine, it requires the user to take even more time to replace a magazine. Providing users with a device that allows for a handgun to be reloaded with a new magazine without, the use of two hands allows for efficient and quick reloading when only one hand is available.

Therefore, there is a defined need amongst the known prior art references for a magazine holder that facilitates quick reloading and can load a handgun with one hand.

SUMMARY Of THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of magazine holders now present in the known art, the present invention provides a new magazine holder wherein an angled upper edge disposed on at least one of the side flaps of the pair of side flaps facilitates a quick reload of a handgun.

The present device includes a magazine holder comprising a vertical back plate, a base plate, and a pair of side flaps. These features of the magazine holder form a cavity. The cavity secures the magazine to the magazine holder when a magazine is placed therein. Each side flap of the pair of side flaps includes an angled upper edge. The side flaps with the angled upper edge allows a user to secure a replacement magazine into a handgun directly from the cavity. When the handgun is lowered with a force upon the magazine within the cavity, the magazine will engage with the handgun and enter therein. As the magazine proceeds into the handgun, the magazine will exit the cavity and be completely secured within the handgun. The ability to insert a new magazine with just the downward force of the handgun, allows for the handgun to be reloaded quickly and reloaded with just the use of one hand. This can save a considerable amount of time for those handgun users that, are in situations that require a quick reload.

The present device includes a magazine holder comprising an angled member. The angled member is disposed on the face of the vertical back plate opposing the base plate and the pair of side flaps. Quick access to the magazine holder will shorten the time necessary to reload a handgun. Typically, individuals that carry replacement magazines on their person, such as law enforcement officer and military members, place their replacement magazines in a belt clip attached to their waist. Having the replacement magazines attached to their waist provides the user with quick access to the replacement magazines. Often the Individuals that must wear such belt clips usually take time to get comfortable with wearing the belt clip and knowing how to do so without inhibiting any of their movements. It may take a significant amount of time for an individual to get comfortable with a new belt clip. The ability to connect the magazine holder with a belt clip that an individual is already comfortable with, will allow for the individual to quickly adapt to using the magazine holder. An angled member disposed on the rear face of the magazine holder will permit the magazine holder to engage with a plurality of standard belt clips. The angled body will taper along the magazine holder so that, a magazine placed within the magazine holder will be oriented correctly to facilitate a quick and one-handed reloading of a handgun.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the quick change magazine holder. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be limiting in any respect.

FIG. 1A shows a front view of an embodiment of a magazine holder. The magazine holder 11 includes a vertical back plate 12. The vertical back plate 12 includes a front face, a rear face, a top edge, 3 bottom edge, and a plurality of side edges. In the shown embodiment, the vertical back plate 12 is a rectangular shape. The vertical back plate 12 provides support to a handgun magazine placed within the magazine holder 11. A pair of side flaps 13 are disposed on opposing ends of the vertical back plate 22. Each side flap of the pair of side flaps 13 is disposed on one of the side edges of the plurality of side edges. The pair of side flaps 13 extend outwardly from the vertical back plate 12. A tab 14 is disposed on a distal end of each side flap of the pair of side flaps 13. The tabs 14 extend towards the opposing side flap. The tabs 14 extend perpendicularly towards the opposing flap of the pair of side flaps 13. The pair of side flaps 13 and the tabs 14 secure a handgun magazine to the magazine holder 11.

Each side flap of the pair of side flaps 13 includes an angled upper edge. The tabs 14 include an angled upper edge identical to the angled upper of the pair of side flaps 13. The pair of side flaps 13 and the tabs 14 are composed of a flexible material. The flexible material and the angled upper edge facilitate a quick removal of a handgun magazine placed within the magazine holder 11. The magazine holder 11 further includes a base plate 15. The base plate 15 is disposed on the bottom edge of the vertical back plate 12. The base plate 15 extends outwardly perpendicular to the vertical back plate 12. The base plate 15 provides additional support to a handgun magazine placed within the magazine holder 11. At least one aperture 17 is disposed on the vertical back plate 12, The at least one aperture 17 is configured to accept a fastener. In the shown embodiment, a pair of apertures 17 disposed on the vertical back plate 12 The pair of apertures 17 are coaxially aligned to receive a single fastener therethrough an aperture of the pair of apertures 17. The single fastener further secures the magazine 11 holder to a standard belt clip.

FIG. 1B shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a magazine holder. The magazine holder 11 includes an angled member 16. The angled member 16 is disposed on the rear face of the vertical back plate 12. The angled member 16 extends outwardly from the top edge of the vertical back plate 12. The angled member 16 includes a width that decreases from an upper end to a lower end. The angled member 16 is designed to engage a standard belt clip. The at least one aperture disposed on the vertical back plate 12 extends through the angled member 16. The fastener may engage the at least one aperture and extend though the angled member 16 to secure the magazine holder 11 to the standard belt clip.

The vertical back plate 12, the pair of side flaps 1B, the pair of tabs 14, and the base plate 15 form a cavity. The cavity is configured to receive and secure a handgun magazine to the magazine holder 11. When placed within the cavity, the handgun magazine is secured via the vertical back plate 12, the pair of side flaps 13, the pair of tabs 14, and the base plate 35. The handgun magazine placed within the cavity may be easily removed from the magazine holder 11 when the user loads the handgun magazine into the handgun.

FIG. 2A and FIG. 2B show side views of an embodiment of the magazine holder engaging with a standard belt clip. The magazine holder 11 includes the angled member 16 disposed on the rear face of the vertical back plate. When a magazine is placed within the cavity of the magazine holder 11 and secured by the pair of side flaps 13, the magazine holder 11 may be coupled with a standard belt clip. The angled member 16 will engage with a standard belt clip, when a lower end of the angled member 16 sits within the standard belt clip. When engaged with the standard belt clip, the magazine holder 11 may be attached to the user's person.

FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a magazine holder in use. In use, the magazine holder 11 will secure a handgun magazine by utilizing the vertical back plate, the pair of side flaps, the tabs 14, and the base plate 15. The handgun magazine is placed within the cavity. In one embodiment, the handgun magazine is slid into the cavity. The pair of side flaps and the tabs 14 are flexible, whereby a gap formed between the tabs 14 allows for the magazine to pass therethrough. To remove the handgun magazine from the cavity of the magazine holder 11, the user will place a handgun with no magazine therein over the handgun magazine within the magazine holder 11. The user will lower the handgun onto the handgun magazine towards the base plate 15. The angled upper edge included on each of the side flaps of the pair of side flaps facilitates a quick removal of the handgun magazine from within the cavity. A downward motion of the handgun onto the handgun magazine loads the handgun magazine into the handgun. As the handgun magazine enters the handgun, the user will pull the handgun away from the magazine holder 11. The handgun magazine will slide out of the cavity by passing through the pair of tabs 14 and be loaded into the handgun.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, ail suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A magazine holder, comprising:

a vertical back plate;
the vertical back plate includes a front face, a rear face, a top edge, a bottom edge, and a plurality of side edges;
an angled member disposed on the rear face of the vertical back plate;
a base plate disposed on the bottom edge of the vertical back plate;
the base plate extends outward perpendicular to the vertical back plate;
a pair of side flaps disposed on opposing side edges of the plurality of side edges;
each side flaps of the pair of side flaps includes an angled upper edge;
a tab disposed on a distal end of each side flap of the pair of side flaps; and
wherein the vertical back plate, the base plate, the pair of side flaps define a cavity therebetween.

2. The magazine holder of claim 1, wherein the angled member extends outwardly from the top edge of the vertical back plate and a width of the angled member decreases from an upper end to a lower end of the angled member.

3. The magazine holder of claim 1, wherein the cavity is dimensioned to receive a magazine for a handgun.

4. The magazine holder of claim 1, wherein the pair of side flaps and the tabs are flexible; whereby a gap between the tabs allows for the magazine to pass therethrough.

5. The magazine holder of claim 1, wherein the angled member engages a standard belt clip; whereby a lower end of the angled member sits within the standard belt dip.

6. The magazine holder of claim 2, wherein a pair of apertures disposed on the vertical back plate and the angled member

7. The magazine holder of claim 6, whereby at least one aperture of the pair of apertures is coaxially aligned to receive a single fastener therethrough, wherein the single fastener secures the magazine holder to a standard belt clip.

8. The magazine holder of claim 1, wherein the tabs extend perpendicularly towards the opposing flap of the pair of side flaps.

9. The magazine holder of claim 1, wherein the tabs include an angled upper edge identical to the angled upper of the pair of side flaps.
