VAPING COMPOSITIONS
Vaping composition including: at least one vaping base composition; nicotine and/or a nicotine substitute suitable for vaping; at least one acid suitable for vaping; and optionally at least one flavouring suitable for vaping, characterized in that the acid is comprised in a certain concentration so that it tastes neutral.
The present invention concerns the domain of vaping compositions.
TECHNOLOGICAL BACKGROUNDMore specifically, the invention concerns vaping compositions including an acid such as salicylic acid, to regulate the tingling in the throat and to enhance the aromatic strength in electronic cigarette liquids.
Electronic cigarettes are also called vape pens or e-cigarettes. An electronic cigarette is a device allowing you to at least partially vaporise some material, usually a liquid, called vaping or e-liquid, in order to create an aerosol suitable for inhalation. The vaping liquid contains in particular nicotine, which, once vaporised and inhaled, reproduces similar or identical sensations to those felt by inhaling the smoke of a conventional cigarette.
In this regard, the electronic cigarette comprises three main sections contained in a plastic and/or metal casing:

- a battery, usually rechargeable,
- a cartridge or tank containing a liquid called an “e-liquid”, and
- a vaporising device (an atomiser).
The vaping composition can be contained in a cartridge (which can be silicone, PET, PMMA or some non-corrodible metal) or a container (which can be PMMA/polyethylene, PYREX®, borosilicate glass or some non-corrodible metal), to which a device may be added for drawing in the liquid through capillary action (in particular in silica, fibreglass, cotton, ceramic metallic fabric, nylon threads, or borosilicate fibre) in contact with the vaporising system. The vaporising device usually comprises a thread submersed in the liquid contained in the tank and a heating system allowing for the liquid absorbed by the thread to be heated up in order to vaporise it. An air inlet at the end has been built in to allow inhalation. Documents WO2004/095955 and WO2015/100361 can be cited to illustrate such electronic cigarettes.
While inhaling, the vaporised components inhaled are generally mixed with droplets of liquid compounds that have not been vaporised. Also, condensation may be produced by the cooling down of vaporised components during inhalation. Thus, the substance actually inhaled is usually called an aerosol, in other words it is formed from liquid particles in suspension in a gas mixture. This offers a real advantage in terms of consumer health compared to conventional cigarettes inhaled through combustion. In fact, as part of this process, electronic cigarettes allow for the exact amount of inhaled product to be controlled, which makes it possible to exclude the use of toxic products such as CMR products (which you cannot do with conventional cigarettes).
The vaping liquid, also called “e-liquid” is generally a liquid containing a base (such as a mixture of glycerin, preferably plant-based, propylene glycol, water, etc.) to which flavourings and nicotine are added.
Thus, e-liquids are mainly comprised of the following components:

- synthetic propylene glycol (approximately 65%),
- glycerin and/or glycerol (approximately 25%)
- water* (5% to 10%)
- flavouring(s) and/or colourant(s) (2% to 5%)
- nicotine (0 mg/ml to 20 mg/ml).
*Water is rarely added, it generally is derived from other ingredients (flavourings, solvents, etc.).
One of the main objectives of e-cigarettes is to simulate the effects of conventional cigarettes, which provide pleasure to cigarette smokers, without inducing the negative effects.
It is common knowledge that the pleasurable physiological effects of conventional cigarettes may be related to nicotine. Nicotine is a psychoactive substance causing a feeling of relaxation, it acts as an anxiolytic, antidepressant, hunger-curbing substance and in some users even provides intellectual stimulation. However, nicotine is also responsible for causing a tingling sensation in the throat, typically known as “throat-hit” or “hit”, which is linked to its concentration present in cigarette smoke. This tingling is not usually a pleasant sensation for smokers.
However, e-cigarette shave difficulties to reproduce the effects of nicotine in a controlled manner. The current solution is usually to add benzoic acid in order to increase the bioavailability of nicotine (the more soluble, protonated form), in this way serving to exacerbate its physiological properties. However, such e-liquids always cause tingling in the throat (“hit”). The Applicant has recently discovered that the bioavailability of nicotine and throat tingling (“hit”) are two effects distinct from one another.
Thus, the Applicant was surprised to discover that the nature of the acid used allows for the decorrelation of the sensation of throat tingling with other nicotine-induced physiological effects that the smoker finds pleasurable. Benzoic acid has a metallic taste that seems to be related to the sensation of tingling in the throat. In fact, by using salicylic acid which has a neutral taste, the Applicant has noted the decorrelation of the sensation of throat tingling with other nicotine-induced physiological effects that the smoker finds pleasurable. It is in any case important to note that the acid is not a carcinogen, mutagen and/or toxic for reproduction (traditionally known as “CMR”), nor is it quite simply dangerous for the respiratory tract. It is vital that electronic cigarettes present satisfactory toxicology characteristics (nature and amount of ingredients) in order to uphold their status as a safe alternative (in terms of public health) compared to conventional cigarettes. Thus, it is possible to envisage e-liquids with fixed quantities of nicotine that cause pleasurable physiological effects (a feeling of relaxation, intellectual stimulation, anxiolytic and antidepressant properties, etc.) that are controlled and safe (in terms of health), while delivering a separately-controlled effect of tingling in the throat (hit) which is predominant with nicotine. One of the main aims of the present invention is thus to offer different compositions of e-liquids that allow the user to choose the nicotine-related parameter on which the user can act in smoking cessation.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe purpose of the present invention therefore concerns a vaping composition comprising:
-
- at least one vaping base composition;
- nicotine and/or a nicotine substitute suitable for vaping;
- at least one acid suitable for vaping; and
- optionally at least one flavouring suitable for vaping,
characterized in that the acid is comprised at a particular concentration so that it tastes neutral.
The aim of the present invention also relates to the process for manufacturing a composition according to the present invention, comprising the following steps:
a) mixing nicotine in a solvent, such as propylene glycol suitable for vaping, with addition of acid to obtain a nicotine salt solution;
b) adding to the vaping base solution the solution obtained in step (a);
c) optionally adding at least one flavouring and/or nicotine and/or a nicotine substitute to the vaping base solution of step (b) or to the solution obtained in step (a); and
d) recovering of the composition thus obtained in step (c) or (b).
Moreover, the purpose of the present invention concerns the use of a composition according to the present invention as an electronic cigarette liquid.
In addition, the purpose of the present invention concerns the use of a taste-neutral acid suitable for vaping, such as salicylic acid, to regulate the nicotine-induced tingling in the throat felt by a user during vaping and/or to enhance the aromatic strength in an electronic cigarette liquid. In fact, beneficially, the purpose of the present invention makes it possible to provide vaping compositions in which the nicotine-related tingling in the throat is decorrelated with the nicotine concentration. This allows for the creation of vaping compositions which are not restrictive for users who do not enjoy the nicotine-related tingling in their throats. Thus, users who are sensitive to tingling in the throat can nonetheless benefit from a nicotine intake that produces the other, more desirable effects.
The purpose of the present invention also concerns the use of a taste-neutral acid suitable for vaping, such as salicylic acid, for electronic cigarette compositions to help with the process of nicotine cessation.
The purpose of the present invention therefore relates to the electronic cigarettes containing a composition according to the present invention.
The purpose of the present invention also concerns the electronic cigarette cartridge containing a composition according to the present invention.
DefinitionsWithin the context of the present invention, products (such as nicotine, acid, solvent, etc.) “suitable for vaping” refers to a product that is sufficiently volatile to be vaped, and/or sufficiently soluble in the vaping liquid to be atomised with this liquid during vaping and that meets the toxicity criteria and/or that this acid is not a CMR agent or toxic for the respiratory tract, including the upper respiratory tract (mouth, nose, nasal cavities, pharynx, larynx), the lower respiratory tract (trachea, primary and lumbar bronchi, bronchioles) or exchange areas (air duct and air sacs, pulmonary alveoli). Specifically, the acid is not a CMR agent. The acid is not toxic to the respiratory tract.
Within the context of the present invention, “nicotine substitute” is understood to refer to any product that allows for the obtaining of nicotine or for the physiological effect of nicotine to be reached. This could for example be a nicotine salt, or a nicotine mixture with a nicotine salt.
Within the context of the present invention, the term “acid” is used to refer to at least one component which could have a pKa less than 7, for example comprised between 1 and 6, and preferably comprised between 2 and 5 or even 3 and 4. Beneficially, the pKa of the acid is comprised between 2.5 and 5.5.
Within the context of the present invention, “flavouring” is used to refer to a component or mixture of components that allow for the perception of flavour and possibly odour.
Within the context of the present invention, “neutral taste” is used to refer to no taste and/or odour that is perceived during vaping. Thus, one way to determine whether a product has a neutral taste is to add a vaping base, and not to observe any taste difference with the same composition in its absence (typically without the use of any other flavourings). Traditionally, “neutral taste” is recognised by a taste expert. For example within the context of this invention, the acid can be selected from the following list of organic acids:

- formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, caproic acid, caprylic acid, capric acid, citric acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, salicylic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, phenylacetic acid, pyruvic acid, levulinic acid, tartaric acid, lactic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, feminic acid, gluconic acid, cacid, malonic acid and malic acid;
at a concentration less than 5% by weight of the composition to deliver a neutral taste as per its intended meaning according to the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTIONThe purpose of the present invention therefore concerns a vaping composition as described above.
More specifically, the purpose of the present invention concerns a vaping composition comprising:
-
- at least one vaping base composition;
- nicotine and/or a nicotine substitute suitable for vaping;
- at least one acid suitable for vaping; and
- optionally at least one flavouring suitable for vaping,
characterized in that the acid is comprised in a content of less than 5% by weight of the composition, for example comprised between 0.0001% and 1% by acid weight per volume of the composition. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterised in that the vaping composition comprises at least one acid in a content of less than or equal to 4% by weight, less than or equal to 3% by weight, less than or equal to 2% by weight, or even less than or equal to 1.5% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterized in that the vaping composition comprises at least one acid in a content of greater than or equal to 0.0001% by weight, greater than or equal to 0.001% by weight, greater than or equal to 0.01% by weight, or even greater than or equal to 0.1% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterized in that the vaping composition comprises at least one acid in a content of between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or even preferably less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
Beneficially, the vaping composition according to the invention can be characterized in that the said composition comprises less than 0.1% by weight of benzoic acid per volume of the composition, preferably the said composition is free of benzoic acid. In fact, the present invention does not from the outset exclude the presence of benzoic acid at low doses, rather within the limits defined by the health authorities (for example at a rate less than 0.1%). Within this context, the amount of benzoic acid is preferably less than 0.05%, less than 0.01%, preferably less than 0.001%, or even preferably that benzoic acid is completely absent from the composition.
The purpose of the present invention concerns in particular a vaping composition as described above, characterized in that the acid is an organic acid, such as salicylic acid. Preferably, the organic acid comprises at least one aromatic ring. Preferably, the organic acid comprises at least one carboxylic acid. Preferably, the organic acid comprises at least one hydroxyl function. Preferably, the organic acid comprises at least one aromatic ring, one carboxylic acid, and/or at least one hydroxyl function. Even more preferably, the organic acid comprises one aromatic ring on which the carboxylic acid function and the hydroxyl function are in position 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5 or 1-6 on the aromatic ring. Within the context of the present invention, “aromatic ring” is used to refer to a ring in C5, C6, C7 or C8 comprising an aromaticity. Preferably, the aromatic ring comprises an aromatic ring in C6 (benzene ring).
Specifically, the acid is not a CMR agent. The acid is not toxic to the respiratory tract.
In a particular embodiment, the vaping composition according to the invention comprises a single acid and is free from any other acid (in particular benzoic acid).
In a particular embodiment, the vaping composition according to the invention comprises a combination of two acids and is free of any other acid (in particular benzoic acid).
In a particular embodiment, the vaping composition according to the invention comprises a combination of three acids and is free of any other acid (in particular benzoic acid).
Within the context of the present invention, “one, two or three acids” is used to refer to the fact that the composition may comprise at least one, two or three acids, or alternatively, that the composition comprises exactly one, two or three acids.
For example, the acid can be selected from the following list of organic acids: formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, caproic acid, caprylic acid, capric acid, citric acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, salicylic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, phenylacetic acid, pyruvic acid, levulinic acid, tartaric acid, lactic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, feminic acid, gluconic acid, sartric acid, malonic acid and malic acid.
The purpose of the present invention further concerns a vaping composition as described above, characterized in that the vaping composition comprises at least one acid in a content of less than 5% by weight, for example comprised between 0.0001% and 1% by weight of acid per volume of the composition. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the present invention is characterized in that it comprises at least one acid in a content of less than or equal to 4% by weight, less than or equal to 3% by weight, less than or equal to 2% by weight, or even less than or equal to 1.5% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises at least one acid in a content of greater than or equal to 0.0001% by weight, greater than or equal to 0.001% by weight, greater than or equal to 0.01% by weight, or even greater than or equal to 0.1% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises at least one acid in a content comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, and more preferably less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises formic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises acetic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.

In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises oleic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably falling between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises linoleic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises linolenic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises phenylacetic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises pyruvic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises levulinic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises tartaric acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably falling between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises lactic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises succinic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises fumaric acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably falling between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises feminic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises gluconic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises sartric acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises malonic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the composition comprises malic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight.
The purpose of the present invention further concerns a vaping composition as described above, characterized in that the total amount of nicotine equivalent is less than 5% by weight, for example comprised between 0.5% and 3% by weight of nicotine equivalent. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterized in that the total amount of nicotine equivalent is less than or equal to 4% by weight, less than or equal to 3% by weight, less than or equal to 2% by weight, or even less than or equal to 1.5% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterized in that the total amount of nicotine equivalent is greatergreater than or equal to 0.1% by weight, greatergreater than or equal to 0.5% by weight, greatergreater than or equal to 1% by weight, or even greatergreater than or equal to 1.5% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the invention is characterized in that the vaping composition comprises at least one acid in a content of comprised between 0.1% and 2.5% by weight, between 0.5% and 2.4% by weight, between 1% and 2.3% by weight, between 1.2% and 2.2% by weight, and more preferably between 1.5% and 2.1% by weight. In a particular embodiment, the purpose of the present invention concerns a vaping composition as described above in which the acid is sartric acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight, and characterized in that the nicotine:acid ratio can be less than or equal to 1:5 by mass, less than or equal to 1:4, less than or equal to 1:3, less than or equal to 1:2, less than or equal to 1:1, less than or equal to 1:0.9, less than or equal to 1:0.8, less than or equal to 1:0.7, less than or equal to 1:0.6, less than or equal to 1:0.5, less than or equal to 1:0.4, less than or equal to 1:0.3, less than or equal to 1:0.2 or even less than or equal to 1:0.1 by weight.
In a particular embodiment, the purpose of the present invention concerns a vaping composition as described above in which the acid is malonic acid in a content of less than 5% by weight of the vaping composition according to the invention, and preferably comprised between 0.0001% and 4% by weight, between 0.001% and 3% by weight, between 0.01% and 2% by weight, between 0.1% and 1% by weight, or more preferably, less than or equal to 0.9% by weight, and characterized in that the nicotine:acid ratio can be less than or equal to 1:5 by mass, less than or equal to 1:4, less than or equal to 1:3, less than or equal to 1:2, less than or equal to 1:1, less than or equal to 1:0.9, less than or equal to 1:0.8, less than or equal to 1:0.7, less than or equal to 1:0.6, less than or equal to 1:0.5, less than or equal to 1:0.4, less than or equal to 1:0.3, less than or equal to 1:0.2 or even less than or equal to 1:0.1 by weight.

The purpose of the present invention further concerns a vaping composition as described above, characterized in that the vaping base composition comprises propylene glycol, glycerol, water, and/or 1,3-propanediol.
For example, the vaping composition according to the present invention may comprise propylene glycol at a rate greater than or equal to 10% by weight, greater than or equal to 15%, greater than or equal to 20%, greater than or equal to 25%, or even greater than or equal to 30% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the present invention may be characterized in that it comprises propylene glycol at a rate comprised between 1% and 45% by weight, between 5% and 40% by weight, between 10% and 35% by weight, and more preferably between 20% and 30% by weight.
For example, the vaping composition according to the present invention may comprise glycerol at a rate greater than or equal to 10% by weight, greater than or equal to 30%, greater than or equal to 40%, greater than or equal to 45%, or even greater than or equal to 50% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the present invention may be characterized in that it comprises glycerol at a rate between 5% and 80% by weight, between 15% and 70% by weight, between 35% and 65% by weight, and more preferably between 45% and 55% by weight.
For example, the vaping composition according to the present invention may comprise water at a rate less than or equal to 10% by weight, less than or equal to 5%, less than or equal to 4%, less than or equal to 2%, or even less than or equal to 1% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the present invention may be characterized in that it comprises water at a rate between 0% and 10% by weight, between 1% and 9% by weight, between 2% and 8% by weight, between 3% and % by weight, and more preferably between 4% and 6% by weight, such as 5% by weight.
The purpose of the present invention further concerns a vaping composition as described above, characterized in that the vaping composition comprises a vaping base composition in a content of greater than 10% by weight of the composition for example within a range comprises between 50% and 99% by composition weight. For example, the vaping composition according to the present invention may comprise a vaping base composition at a rate greater than or equal to 40%, greater than or equal to 60% by weight, greater than or equal to 65%, greater than or equal to 70%, greater than or equal to 75%, greater than or equal to 80%, greater than or equal to 85%, greater e than or equal to 90%, or even greater than or equal to 95% by weight. Preferably, the vaping composition according to the present invention may be characterized in that the vaping composition comprises a vaping base composition at a rate between 50% and 99% by weight, between 60% and 98% by weight, between 65% and 95% by weight, between 70% and 90% by weight, or even between 75% and 85% by weight.
The purpose of the present invention further concerns a vaping composition as described above, characterized in that the flavouring corresponds to a flavouring of plant extract such as mint, a food flavouring, such as a custard dessert and/or a cigarette flavouring.
The purpose of the present invention therefore also concerns the manufacturing process as described above. Thus the present invention concerns the product obtainable by this process.
Moreover, in this process at step (a) which relates to a mixture of nicotine in a solvent, such as propylene glycol, with the addition of an acid to obtain a nicotine salt solution, can make it possible to obtain a nicotine salt solution that can be used in that form to formulate several types of vaping compositions according to the present invention. Thus, the present invention concerns the intermediary product of step (a) obtainable by this step of the process. This intermediary product can therefore comprise an acid such as that described above and nicotine or a nicotine equivalent as described above.
The purpose of the invention can also comprise derived products which concern the cartridge comprising the composition according to the invention, the electronic cigarette comprising the composition according to the invention, etc.
The present invention also allows for the use of a new type of packaging where the tingling of the throat can be regulated independently to the flavourings and/or nicotine rate.
EXAMPLESSeveral compositions with different flavourings have been formulated and tested. Some of these compositions have been compiled in Table 1 below:
These compositions all contain a rate near to 20 mg of nicotine per ml of vaping composition (which is currently the maximum permitted dose in France). These compositions are remarkable compared to compositions using only benzoic acid as the acid, in that the nicotine-related tingling (the “Hit”) is greatly reduced in all of these compositions, which allows for better perception of the flavourings and a better delivery of the pleasurable effects of nicotine.
Claims
1. A vaping composition comprising: characterized in that the acid is comprised at a certain concentration so that it tastes neutral.
- at least one vaping base composition;
- nicotine and/or a nicotine substitute suitable for vaping;
- at least one acid suitable for vaping; and
- optionally at least one flavouring suitable for vaping,
2. The vaping composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the acid is an organic acid.
3. The vaping composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the acid is selected among the list consisting of formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, caproic acid, caprylic acid, capric acid, citric acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, salicylic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, phenylacetic acid, pyruvic acid, levulinic acid, tartaric acid, lactic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, feminic acid, gluconic acid, gluconic acid, sartric acid, malonic acid and malic acid, preferably salicylic acid.
4. The vaping composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the vaping composition comprises said at least one acid in a content of less than 5% by weight, for example comprised between 0.0001% and 1% by weight of acid per volume of the composition.
5. The vaping composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the total amount of nicotine equivalent is less than 5% by weight, for example comprised between 0.5% and 3% by weight of nicotine equivalent.
6. The vaping composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the vaping base composition comprises propylene glycol, glycerol, water, and/or 1,3-propanediol.
7. The vaping composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the vaping composition comprises a vaping base composition in a content greater than 10% by weight of the composition, for example within a range of 50% to 99% by weight of the composition.
8. The vaping composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the flavouring corresponds to a flavouring of plant extract, such as mint, a food flavouring, such as a custard dessert and/or a cigarette flavouring.
9. A process for manufacturing the composition according to claim 1, comprising the following steps:
- a) mixing nicotine in a solvent, such as propylene glycol suitable for vaping, with addition of acid to obtain a nicotine salt solution;
- b) adding to the vaping base solution the solution obtained in step (a);
- c) optionally adding at least one flavouring and/or nicotine and/or a nicotine substitute to the vaping base solution of step (b) or to the solution obtained in step (a); and
- d) recovering of the composition thus obtained in step (c) or (b).
10. Use of the composition according to claim 1, as an electronic cigarette liquid.
11. Use of a taste-suitable neutral acid suitable for vaping to modulate the tingling in the throat due to nicotine felt by a user during vaping and/or for enhancing the aromatic strength in an electronic cigarette liquid.
12. Use of a taste-suitable neutral acid suitable for vaping, such as salicylic acid, for an electronic cigarette composition to provide assistance in smoking cessation.
13. An electronic cigarette comprising a composition according to claim 1.
14. An electronic cigarette cartridge comprising a composition according to claim 1.
