DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, a luggage of the first preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a case 10, four wheels 12 mounted on the case 10, and a handle 14 connected to the case 10. The wheels 12 and the handle 14 are the same as the prior arts, and they are not the major character of the present invention, so I do not describe their detail here.

The case 10 is a cube-like hollow member having a front side 16, a back side 18, and a rectangular loop-like lateral side 20. The back side 18 is opposite to the front side 16, and the lateral side 20 is between the front and the back sides 16, 18.

The case 10 includes a case member 22 and a lid 24. The case member 22 has an opening 28, and the opening 28 is formed on the front side 16 of the luggage, but does not take the entire front side 16. The case member 22 has a chamber 26 therein, and the opening 28 is an entrance of the chamber 26. The opening 28 also extends to the lateral side 20 of the case 10. The case member 22 has a back wall 30, a top wall 32, a bottom wall 34, a left wall 36, a right wall 38, and a front reinforced wall 40. The top, the bottom, the left, and the right walls 32, 34, 36, 38 are projected from ends of the back wall 30, and the front reinforced wall 40 has three ends connected to the top wall 32, the left wall 36, and the right wall 38, respectively. The front reinforced wall 40 is under opening 28.

The lid 24 has an edge with a shape complementary to an edge of the opening 28. The lid 24 has a front panel 42, a U-shaped protrusion 44 vertically connected to three ends of the front panel 42. A bottom end, the end without the protrusion 44, of the lid 24 is hinged with a top end of the front reinforced wall 40 of the case member 22. A zipper 46 is provided to the edge of the opening 28 of the case member 22 and the edge of the lid 24. As a result, the lid 24 is able to be opened and closed.

In the present preferred embodiment, the case 10 is made by injection molding, and then the case 10 is cut to have the case member 22 and the lid 24. Therefore, the case member 22 and the lid 24 are two single and independent elements.

As shown in FIG. 4, in order to provide the case 10 with a large storage capacity, a maximum wideness w of the protrusion 44 of the lid 24 is in a range between 20% and 40% of a thickness W of the case 10 (i.e. a wideness of the lateral side 20), and the preferable wideness w is 25% of the thickness W of the case 10.

In order to enhance the strength of the case member 22, the case member 22 is provided with a plurality of first reinforced ribs 48 on the back wall 30, and a plurality of second reinforced ribs 50 on the left and the right walls 36, 38, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. The first reinforced ribs 48 are parallel to each other and along a direction from the top wall 32 to the bottom wall 34. The second reinforced ribs 50 are parallel to each other and along a direction perpendicular to the first reinforced ribs 48. The second reinforced ribs 50 are provided at only a portion of the left and the right walls 36, 38 respectively, and the portions are adjacent to the back wall 30. Furthermore, lengths L the second reinforced ribs 50 are no greater than 50% of the thickness W of the case 10 (FIG. 5). As a result, the pressure on the top wall 32 and the bottom wall 34 of the case member 22 may be resisted by the first reinforced ribs 48, and the pressure on the back wall 30 of the case member 22 may be resisted by the second reinforced ribs 50. As shown in FIG. 3, the lid 24 is provided with a plurality of third reinforced ribs 52 on the front panel 42. The third reinforced ribs 52 are parallel to each other and along a direction the same as the direction of the first reinforced ribs 48. The case member 22 further is provided with a plurality of front reinforced ribs 54 on the front reinforced wall 40 to enhance strength the front side 16 of the case 10.

In the present preferred embodiment, the first, the second, the third, and the front reinforced ribs 48, 50, 52, 54 are waved profiles on the case member 22 which are formed at the time of the case member 22 being made.

It is noted that the direction of the first reinforced ribs 48 is perpendicular to the direction of the second reinforced ribs 50 which makes the case member 22 may resist the external pressure along two directions. Therefore, the first reinforced ribs 48 may be arranged in the vertical direction while the second reinforced ribs 50 are in the horizontal direction as shown in drawings. It may reverse the directions of the first and the second reinforced ribs 48, 50, such as the first reinforced ribs 48 are in the horizontal direction and the second reinforced ribs 50 are in the vertical direction (not shown), or in any directions as long as the two directions are perpendicular. The third reinforced ribs 52 may enhance the strength of the lid 24 to avoid deformation of the lid 24 when the lid 24 is exerted by an external pressure. The direction of the third reinforced ribs 52 is not limited in parallel to the direction of the first reinforced ribs 48. The front reinforced ribs 54 are parallel to the first and the third reinforced ribs 52, and the inventor recommends the front reinforced ribs 54 are arranged in vertical.

FIG. 6 shows a luggage of the second preferred embodiment of the present invention, which is almost the same as the luggage of the first preferred embodiment, except that the lid 24 is pivoted on the right wall 38 of the case member 22.

It must be pointed out that the embodiments described above are only some preferred embodiments of the present invention. All equivalent structures which employ the concepts disclosed in this specification and the appended claims should fall within the scope of the present invention.
