A convertible article of luggage assembly for facilitating a user to sleep in an airport includes a first article of luggage and a second article of luggage that is pivotally coupled to the first article of luggage. Each of the first article of luggage and the second article of luggage is positionable in a closed position to form a suitcase. Conversely, each of the first article of luggage and the second article of luggage is positionable in an open position to form a sleeping surface. A first mattress is coupled to the first article of luggage and a second mattress is coupled to the second article of luggage to enhance comfort for the user when the user lies on the sleeping surface.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (1) Field of the Invention

The disclosure relates to luggage devices and more particularly pertains to a new luggage device for facilitating a user to sleep in an airport.

(2) Description of Related Art Including Information Disclosed Under 37 CFR 1.97 and 1.98

The prior art relates to luggage devices including a variety of articles of luggage that can be opened to form a sleeping surface. In several instances a mattress is integrated into the articles of luggage for enhancing comfort for a user. The prior art discloses a variety of suitcases that have a sleeping pad integrated therein which can be deployed for sleeping.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a first article of luggage and a second article of luggage that is pivotally coupled to the first article of luggage. Each of the first article of luggage and the second article of luggage is positionable in a closed position to form a suitcase. Conversely, each of the first article of luggage and the second article of luggage is positionable in an open position to form a sleeping surface. A first mattress is coupled to the first article of luggage and a second mattress is coupled to the second article of luggage to enhance comfort for the user when the user lies on the sleeping surface.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new luggage device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the convertible article of luggage assembly 10 generally comprises a first article of luggage 12 that has a plurality of storage compartments 14 each being integrated therein to store objects for travelling. The first article of luggage 12 has a front side 16, a back side 18 and a perimeter side 20 extending therebetween, and the perimeter side 20 has a top surface 22, a bottom surface 24, a first lateral surface 26 and a second lateral surface 28. Additionally, respective ones of the storage compartments 14 are disposed on the front side 16. The perimeter side 20 has a cut 30 extending along each of the top surface 22, the bottom surface 24, the first lateral surface 26 and the second lateral surface 28 to define a respective one of the storage compartments 14 within the first article of luggage 12.

A plurality of first closures 38 is each integrated into a respective one of the storage compartments 14 for opening and closing the respective storage compartment 14. A second closure 40 is integrated into the perimeter side 20 of the first article of luggage 12 and the second closure 40 is coextensive with the cut in the perimeter side 20 for opening and closing the cut. Each of the first closures 38 and the second closure 40 may comprise a zipper or other type of mechanical closure that is commonly employed on luggage and that is capable of opening and closing the storage compartments 14 in the first article of luggage 12.

A pair of rollers 42 is each rotatably integrated into the first article of luggage 12 to roll the first article of luggage 12 along a support surface 44 for transporting the first article of luggage 12. A pair of first pegs 46 is each coupled to the front side 16 of the first article of luggage 12 and each first pegs 46 rests on the support surface 44 when the front side 16 is laid on the support surface 44. Each of the first pegs 46 is aligned with an intersection between the top surface 22 and a respective one of the first lateral surface 26 and the second lateral surface 28 of the perimeter side 20 of the first article of luggage 12.

A second article of luggage 48 is provided and the second article of luggage 48 is pivotally coupled to the first article of luggage 12. The second article of luggage 48 has a storage compartment 50 integrated therein to store objects for travelling. Each of the first article of luggage 12 and the second article of luggage 48 is positionable in a closed position having the first article of luggage 12 resting against the second article of luggage 48 such that the first article of luggage 12 and the second article of luggage 48 form a suitcase. Conversely, each of the first article of luggage 12 and the second article of luggage 48 is positionable in an open position such that each of the first article of luggage 12 and the second article of luggage 48 forms a sleeping surface 51. In this way a user 33 can lie on the sleeping surface 51 for resting while the user 33 is on a layover in an airport or the like.

A handle 32 is slidably integrated into the second article of luggage 48 such that the handle 32 can be gripped by a user 33. The handle 32 is positionable in a stored position having the handle 32 being retracted into the first article of luggage 12. The handle 32 is positionable in an extended position having the handle 32 extending outwardly from the second article of luggage 48. The handle 32 comprises a first member 34 that extends between a pair of second members 36. Each of the second members 36 has a telescopically adjustable length thereby facilitating the first member 34 to be spaced upwardly from the first article of luggage 12 or be retracted into the second article of luggage 12.

The second article of luggage 48 has a forward side 52, a rear side 54 and an outer side 56, and the outer side 56 has an upper surface 58, a lower surface 60, a first sidelong surface 62 and a second sidelong surface 64. The outer side 56 has a cut 57 extending along the upper surface 58, the lower surface 60, the first sidelong surface 62 and the second sidelong surface 64 to define the storage compartment 50 in the second article of luggage 48. A third closure 66 is integrated into the outer side 56 of the second article of luggage 48 and the third closure 66 is coextensive with the cut 57 in the outer side 56 for opening and closing the cut 57 in the outer side 56. The third enclosure 66 may comprise a zipper or other type of mechanical closure that is commonly employed on luggage and that is capable of opening and closing the storage compartment 50 in the second article of luggage 48.

A plurality of second pegs 68 is each coupled to the rear side 54 of the second article of luggage 48 to rest on the support surface 44 when the rear side 54 is laid on the support surface 44. A first mattress 70 is coupled to the first article of luggage 12 and the first mattress 70 lies on the sleeping surface 51 when the first article of luggage 12 and the second article of luggage 48 are positioned in the open position. Moreover, the first mattress 70 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material to enhance comfort for the user 33. The first mattress 70 has a first surface 72 and a second surface 74, and the first surface 72 is bonded to the back side 18 of the first article of luggage 12 having the first surface 72 completely covering the back side 18.

A pillow 76 is integrated into the second surface 74 of the first mattress 70 to support the user's 33 head 78 when the user 33 lies on the first mattress 70. The pillow 76 is positioned adjacent to the top surface 22 of the perimeter side 20 of the first article of luggage 12. Additionally, the pillow 76 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material to enhance comfort for the user 33. A second mattress 80 is coupled to the second article of luggage 48 and the second mattress 80 lies on the sleeping surface 51 when the second article of luggage 48 and the second article of luggage 48 are positioned in the open position. Additionally, the second mattress 80 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material to enhance comfort for the user 33. The second mattress 80 has a first surface 82 and a second surface 84, and the first surface 82 of the second mattress 80 is bonded to the forward side 52 of the second article of luggage 48 having the second surface 84 completely covering the forward side 52.

A heating pad 86 is bonded to each of the first mattress 70 and the second mattress 80 to have the user 33 lie thereon when the user 33 lies on the first mattress 70 and the second mattress 80. The heating pad 86 generates heat when the heating pad 86 is turned on to warm the user 33. The heating pad 86 has a primary surface 88 and a secondary surface 90, and the primary surface 88 is bonded to the second surface 72 of the first mattress 70 and the second surface 84 of the second mattress 80. The heating pad 86 may comprise an electronic heating pad which may employ an electric heating coil or the like and which has an operational temperature ranging between approximately 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit and 160.0 Fahrenheit.

A plurality of first massagers 92 is provided and each of the first massagers 92 is coupled to the heating pad 86 to engage the user 33 when the user 33 lies on the heating pad 86. Each of the first massagers 92 vibrates when the first massagers 92 are turned on to massage the user 33. Each of the first massagers 92 is disposed on the first mattress 70 and the first massagers 92 are spaced apart from each other and are distributed in a pair of columns on the secondary surface 90 of the heating pad 86. Each of the first massagers 92 may comprise an electronic massage puck or other type of electromechanical massager.

A plurality of second massagers 94 is provided and each of the second massagers 94 is coupled to the heating pad 86 to engage the user 33 when the user 33 lies on the heating pad 86. Each of the second massagers 94 vibrates when the second massagers 94 are turned on to massage the user 33. Each of the second massagers 94 is disposed on the second mattress 80 and the second massagers 94 are spaced apart from each other and are distributed in a pair of columns on the secondary surface 90 of the heating pad 86. Each of the second massagers 94 may comprise an electronic massage puck or other type of electromechanical massager.

A control 96 is integrated into the first article of luggage 12 such that the control 96 can be manipulated by the user 33. The control 96 is in electrical communication with the heating pad 86, each of the first massagers 92 and each of the second massagers 94. In this way the control 96 can actuate or de-actuate the heating pad 86, each of the first massagers 92 and each of the second massagers 94 on and off. The control 96 comprises a housing 98 that has a primary surface 100 and a control circuit 102 that is positioned in the housing 98.

The control 96 includes a cord 104 that is electrically coupled between the control circuit 102 and the heating pad 86, each of the first massagers 92 and each of the second massagers 94. Additionally, the cord 104 extends between the housing 98 and the first article of luggage 12. A plurality of buttons 106 is provided and each of the buttons 106 is movably integrated into the primary surface 88 of the housing 98 to be accessible to the user 33. Each of the buttons 106 is electrically coupled to the control circuit 102 and each of the buttons 106 controls respective operational parameters of the heating pad 86, the first massagers 92 and the second massagers 94 including power on, power off, heat intensity and massage intensity. The control 96 includes a power supply 108 that is positioned in the housing 98, the power supply 108 is electrically coupled to the control circuit 102 and the power supply 108 comprises at least one battery.

In use, each of the storage compartments 14 in the first article of luggage 12 and storage compartment 50 in the second article of luggage 48 are filled with objects for travelling. Additionally, the first article of luggage 12 and the second article of luggage 48 are positioned in the closed position to function in the traditional manner of luggage. Each of the first article of luggage 12 and the second article of luggage 48 can be positioned in the open position when the user 33 has a layover in the airport. In this way the user 33 can rest or sleep on the sleeping surface 51 in comfort. Additionally, the heating pad 86, the first massagers 92 and the second massagers 94 can be actuated to enhance the comfort of the user 33 while the user 33 is lying on the sleeping surface 51.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims

1. A convertible article of luggage assembly for converting into a mattress upon which a user can sleep, said assembly comprising:

a first article of luggage having a plurality of storage compartments each being integrated therein wherein each of said storage compartments is configured to store objects for travelling;
a pair of rollers, each of said rollers being rotatably integrated into said first article of luggage wherein said pair of rollers is configured to roll said first article of luggage along a support surface for transporting said first article of luggage;
a second article of luggage being pivotally coupled to said first article of luggage, said second article of luggage having a storage compartment being integrated therein wherein said storage compartment in said second article of luggage is configured to store objects for travelling, each of said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage being positionable in a closed position having said first article of luggage resting against said second article of luggage such that said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage form a suitcase, each of said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage being positionable in an open position such that each of said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage forms a sleeping surface wherein said sleeping surface is configured to have a user lie thereon for resting;
a handle being slidably integrated into said second article of luggage wherein said handle is configured to be gripped by a user, said handle being positionable in a stored position having said handle being retracted into said second article of luggage, said handle being positionable in an extended position having said handle extending outwardly from said second article of luggage;
a first mattress being coupled to said first article of luggage, said first mattress lying on said sleeping surface when said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage are positioned in said open position, said first mattress being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein said first mattress is configured to enhance comfort for the user; and
a second mattress being coupled to said second article of luggage, said second mattress lying on said sleeping surface when said second article of luggage and said second article of luggage are positioned in said open position, said second mattress being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein said second mattress is configured to enhance comfort for the user; and
a heating pad being bonded to each of said first mattress and said second mattress wherein said heating pad is configured to have the user lie thereon when the user lies on said first mattress and said second mattress, said heating pad generating heat when said heating pad is turned on wherein said heating pad is configured to warm the user.

2. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said first article of luggage has a front side, a back side and a perimeter side extending therebetween, said perimeter side having a top surface, a bottom surface, a first lateral surface and a second lateral surface, respective ones of said storage compartments being disposed on said front side, said perimeter side having a cut extending along each of said top surface, said bottom surface, said first lateral surface and said second lateral surface to define a respective one of said storage compartments within said first article of luggage.

3. The assembly according to claim 2, further comprising:

a plurality of first closures, each of said first closures being integrated into a respective one of said storage compartments for opening and closing said respective storage compartment; and
a second closure being integrated into said perimeter side of said first article of luggage, said second closure being coextensive with said cut in said perimeter side for opening and closing said cut.

4. The assembly according to claim 2, further comprising a pair of first pegs, each of said first pegs being coupled to said front side of said first article of luggage wherein each first pegs is configured to rest on the support surface when said front side is laid on the support surface, each of said first pegs being aligned with an intersection between said top surface and a respective one of said first lateral surface and said second lateral surface of said perimeter side of said first article of luggage.

5. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said second article of luggage has a forward side, a rear side and an outer side, said outer side having an upper surface, a lower surface, a first sidelong surface and a second sidelong surface, said outer side having a cut extending along said upper surface, said lower surface, said first sidelong surface and said second sidelong surface to define said storage compartment in said second article of luggage.

6. The assembly according to claim 5, further comprising:

a first closure;
a plurality of second closures; and
a third closure being integrated into said outer side of said second article of luggage, said second closure being coextensive with said cut in said outer side for opening and closing said cut in said outer side.

7. The assembly according to claim 5, further comprising a plurality of second pegs, each of said second pegs being coupled to said rear side of said second article of luggage wherein each second pegs is configured to rest on the support surface when said rear side is laid on the support surface.

8. The assembly according to claim 2, wherein said first mattress has a first surface and a second surface, said first surface being bonded to said back side of said first article of luggage having said first surface completely covering said back side.

9. The assembly according to claim 8, further comprising a pillow being integrated into said second surface of said first mattress wherein said pillow is configured to support the user's head when the user lies on said first mattress, said pillow being positioned adjacent to said top surface of said perimeter side of said first article of luggage, said pillow being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein said pillow is configured to enhance comfort for the user.

10. The assembly according to claim 5, wherein said second mattress has a first surface and a second surface, said first surface of said second mattress being bonded to said forward side of said second article of luggage having said second surface completely covering said forward side.

11. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein:

said first mattress has a first surface and a second surface;
said second mattress has a first surface and a second surface; and
said heating pad has a primary surface and a secondary surface, said primary surface being bonded to said second surface of said first mattress and said second surface of said second mattress.

12. The assembly according to claim 11, further comprising a plurality of first massagers, each of said first massagers being coupled to said heating pad wherein each of said first massagers is configured to engage the user when the user lies on said heating pad, each of said first massagers vibrating when said first massagers are turned on wherein each of said first massagers is configured to massage the user, each of said first massagers being disposed on said first mattress, said first massagers being spaced apart from each other and being distributed in a pair of columns on said secondary surface of said heating pad.

13. The assembly according to claim 12, further comprising a plurality of second massagers, each of said second massagers being coupled to said heating pad wherein each of said second massagers is configured to engage the user when the user lies on said heating pad, each of said second massagers vibrating when said second massagers are turned on wherein each of said second massagers is configured to massage the user, each of said second massagers being disposed on said second mattress, said second massagers being spaced apart from each other and being distributed in a pair of columns on said secondary surface of said heating pad.

14. The assembly according to claim 13, further comprising a control being integrated into said first article of luggage wherein said control is configured to be manipulated by the user, said control being in electrical communication with said heating pad, each of said first massagers and each of said second massagers for turning said heating pad, each of said first massagers and each of said second massagers on and off.

15. The assembly according to claim 14, wherein said control comprises:

a housing having a primary surface;
a control circuit being positioned in said housing;
a cord being electrically coupled between said control circuit and said heating pad, each of said first massagers and each of said second massagers, said cord extending between said housing and said first article of luggage;
a plurality of buttons, each of said buttons being movably integrated into said primary surface of said housing wherein each of said buttons is configured to be accessible to the user, each of said buttons being electrically coupled to said control circuit, each of said buttons controlling respective operational parameters of said heating pad, said first massagers and said second massagers including power on, power off, heat intensity and massage intensity; and
a power supply being positioned in said housing, said power supply being electrically coupled to said control circuit, said power supply comprising at least one battery.

16. A convertible article of luggage assembly for converting into a mattress upon which a user can sleep, said assembly comprising:

a first article of luggage having a plurality of storage compartments each being integrated therein wherein each of said storage compartments is configured to store objects for travelling, said first article of luggage having a front side, a back side and a perimeter side extending therebetween, said perimeter side having a top surface, a bottom surface, a first lateral surface and a second lateral surface, respective ones of said storage compartments being disposed on said front side, said perimeter side having a cut extending along each of said top surface, said bottom surface, said first lateral surface and said second lateral surface to define a respective one of said storage compartments within said first article of luggage;
a plurality of first closures, each of said first closures being integrated into a respective one of said storage compartments for opening and closing said respective storage compartment;
a second closure being integrated into said perimeter side of said first article of luggage, said second closure being coextensive with said cut in said perimeter side for opening and closing said cut;
a pair of rollers, each of said rollers being rotatably integrated into said first article of luggage wherein said pair of rollers is configured to roll said first article of luggage along a support surface for transporting said first article of luggage;
a pair of first pegs, each of said first pegs being coupled to said front side of said first article of luggage wherein each first pegs is configured to rest on the support surface when said front side is laid on the support surface, each of said first pegs being aligned with an intersection between said top surface and a respective one of said first lateral surface and said second lateral surface of said perimeter side of said first article of luggage;
a second article of luggage being pivotally coupled to said first article of luggage, said second article of luggage having a storage compartment being integrated therein wherein said storage compartment in said second article of luggage is configured to store objects for travelling, each of said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage being positionable in a closed position having said first article of luggage resting against said second article of luggage such that said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage form a suitcase, each of said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage being positionable in an open position such that each of said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage forms a sleeping surface wherein said sleeping surface is configured to have a user lie thereon for resting, said second article of luggage having a forward side, a rear side and an outer side, said outer side having an upper surface, a lower surface, a first sidelong surface and a second sidelong surface, said outer side having a cut extending along said upper surface, said lower surface, said first sidelong surface and said second sidelong surface to define said storage compartment in said second article of luggage;
a handle being slidably integrated into said second article of luggage wherein said handle is configured to be gripped by a user, said handle being positionable in a stored position having said handle being retracted into said second article of luggage, said handle being positionable in an extended position having said handle extending outwardly from said second article of luggage, said handle comprising a first member extending between a pair of second members, each of said second members having a telescopically adjustable length thereby facilitating said first member to be spaced upwardly from said second article of luggage or be retracted into said second article of luggage;
a third closure being integrated into said outer side of said second article of luggage, said third closure being coextensive with said cut in said outer side for opening and closing said cut in said outer side;
a plurality of second pegs, each of said second pegs being coupled to said rear side of said second article of luggage wherein each second pegs is configured to rest on the support surface when said rear side is laid on the support surface;
a first mattress being coupled to said first article of luggage, said first mattress lying on said sleeping surface when said first article of luggage and said second article of luggage are positioned in said open position, said first mattress being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein said first mattress is configured to enhance comfort for the user, said first mattress having a first surface and a second surface, said first surface being bonded to said back side of said first article of luggage having said first surface completely covering said back side;
a pillow being integrated into said second surface of said first mattress wherein said pillow is configured to support the user's head when the user lies on said first mattress, said pillow being positioned adjacent to said top surface of said perimeter side of said first article of luggage, said pillow being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein said pillow is configured to enhance comfort for the user;
a second mattress being coupled to said second article of luggage, said second mattress lying on said sleeping surface when said second article of luggage and said second article of luggage are positioned in said open position, said second mattress being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein said second mattress is configured to enhance comfort for the user, said second mattress having a first surface and a second surface, said first surface of said second mattress being bonded to said forward side of said second article of luggage having said second surface completely covering said forward side;
a heating pad being bonded to each of said first mattress and said second mattress wherein said heating pad is configured to have the user lie thereon when the user lies on said first mattress and said second mattress, said heating pad generating heat when said heating pad is turned on wherein said heating pad is configured to warm the user, said heating pad having a primary surface and a secondary surface, said primary surface being bonded to said second surface of said first mattress and said second surface of said second mattress;
a plurality of first massagers, each of said first massagers being coupled to said heating pad wherein each of said first massagers is configured to engage the user when the user lies on said heating pad, each of said first massagers vibrating when said first massagers are turned on wherein each of said first massagers is configured to massage the user, each of said first massagers being disposed on said first mattress, said first massagers being spaced apart from each other and being distributed in a pair of columns on said secondary surface of said heating pad;
a plurality of second massagers, each of said second massagers being coupled to said heating pad wherein each of said second massagers is configured to engage the user when the user lies on said heating pad, each of said second massagers vibrating when said second massagers are turned on wherein each of said second massagers is configured to massage the user, each of said second massagers being disposed on said second mattress, said second massagers being spaced apart from each other and being distributed in a pair of columns on said secondary surface of said heating pad;
a control being integrated into said first article of luggage wherein said control is configured to be manipulated by the user, said control being in electrical communication with said heating pad, each of said first massagers and each of said second massagers for turning said heating pad, each of said first massagers and each of said second massagers on and off, said control comprising: a housing having a primary surface; a control circuit being positioned in said housing; a cord being electrically coupled between said control circuit and said heating pad, each of said first massagers and each of said second massagers, said cord extending between said housing and said first article of luggage; a plurality of buttons, each of said buttons being movably integrated into said primary surface of said housing wherein each of said buttons is configured to be accessible to the user, each of said buttons being electrically coupled to said control circuit, each of said buttons controlling respective operational parameters of said heating pad, said first massagers and said second massagers including power on, power off, heat intensity and massage intensity; and a power supply being positioned in said housing, said power supply being electrically coupled to said control circuit, said power supply comprising at least one battery.
