PRIORITY CLAIM

This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 63/158,815, filed Mar. 9, 2021, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference and relied on.

FIELD OF DISCLOSURE

The present disclosure relates to bra garments generally, and, more particularly, to bra, bra pads, and breast cup systems allowing asymmetrical or uneven breasts to appear symmetrical.

BACKGROUND

Most women have some natural disparity in breast size or asymmetry. Breast asymmetry is generally defined as a difference in form, size, shape, volume, or position of the breast. Often this asymmetry results from normal growth variations resulting from genetic predisposition. Occasionally, a young girl's breasts may develop at different rates where one breast grows faster than the other resulting in uneven breasts for a period of time. Following maturity greater breast symmetry may occur, but more often women advance into adulthood with some degree of size differentiation between their breasts. This asymmetry can change or be exaggerated throughout the woman's life by a number of factors including weight loss, weight gain, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or menopause.

While many women experience natural breast asymmetry, other women have uneven breasts as a consequence of serious medical conditions or procedures. According to the American Cancer Society breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. There is approximately a 1 in 8 chance any American female will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. The World Health Organization estimates, over 1.2 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide. Many of these women will undergo surgical treatment removing part of the breast tissue (lumpectomy) or all of the breast tissue (mastectomy). Other serious health conditions that affect the appearance of the breast tissue could include, for example, breast lumps, a tuberous breast, sclerosis, a misshapen chest cavity, Poland Syndrome, or Congenital Micromastia. A tuberous breast results from breast tissue not proliferating evenly during puberty resulting in breasts that present in an abnormal shape such as oval, pointed, or square. Poland syndrome is a disorder in which the afflicted individual has underdeveloped muscles on one side of the body including the absence of chest wall muscles which contribute to breast shape and development. Breast hypoplasia or macromastia refers to underdevelopment of breast tissue.

Even very slight breast asymmetry of a half cup size or less can result in noticeably uneven breasts. This physical presentation of breast asymmetry can negatively affect a woman's emotional health, confidence, sexuality, and overall well-being. There are currently over 3 billion women on the planet who contribute to the growing lingerie market. According to Statistica, “In 2018, the brassiere market in the United States was valued at approximately 3.57 billion U.S. dollars and it was forecast to reach a value of 5.75 billion U.S. dollars by 2025.” According to Bussle, women need 3-4 everyday bras in addition to 1-2 sports bras if typically active. Most bras must be replaced within a year. Secondary demographics within the market include those transitioning to female, female impersonators, or men.

The number of women who identify as having asymmetrical breasts is increasing, but there is a lack of suitable bra options. Some companies, such as ThirdLove & True and Co., advise women with uneven breasts to purchase bras consisting of shapes or materials which can help hide breast asymmetry. Breast cancer survivors who have undergone surgical procedures to remove part or all of any affected breast tissue are often advised to purchase breast forms which can be inserted into bras with extra pockets and coverings. These artificial breast forms are typically uncomfortable to wear and can be very expensive. There currently is no bra on the market that is made to fit and adjust to each breast separately. A need persists for a bra or bra pad which can be worn by someone without breasts or with uneven breasts and make their breasts appear symmetrical. Bras consistent with the present disclosure address this long-felt unmet need.

1. Bra System Apparatus

FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate a bra system 10 according to the present disclosure. The bra system 10 may be implemented as a bra, camisole, shirt, or any other breast covering garment. With reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, a bra system 10 is shown consistent with a preferred embodiment of the present disclosure wherein the bra system 10 generally comprises a first portion 100 and a second portion 200, the first portion 100 and second portion 200 being separate from one another. In one embodiment, a first portion 100 generally consists of a first cup system 110, a first torso strap 120, and a first shoulder strap 130 operably connected to the first cup system 110 and first torso strap 120. The same embodiment may include a second portion 200 having a second cup system 210, a second torso strap 220, and a second shoulder strap 230 operably connected to the second cup system 210 and the second torso strap 220. In an embodiment, a bra system 10 further includes a first clasp 300 connecting a first cup system 110 to a second cup system 210 and a second clasp 400 connecting a first torso strap 120 to a second shoulder strap 130.

In an embodiment, the first clasp 300 comprises a general loop fastener, manufactured male and female interlocking components, magnet, button closure, Velcro closure, or any other appropriate means of functionally connecting the first cup system to the second cup system. In the same embodiment, a second clasp 400 comprises at least one hook eye style closure 400a on the first torso strap 120 and a plurality of hook eye style closures 400b on the second torso strap 220 being configured to receive the hook eye style closure 400a. In one embodiment, the first clasp 300 is a hook and clasp fastener, such as hook and clasp fastener model NK161 (Resources House, China). In an embodiment, the plurality of hook eye style closures 400a/400b are disposed at a plurality of distances from an end of a second torso strap 220 or the first torso strap 120 allowing a wearer to adjust the total length of a torso strap 120/220 for optimal fit. The bra system 10 optionally has a first torso strap 120 and a second torso strap 220, each comprising stretchable materials such as elastic, rubber, knits, latex, neoprene, cotton, or any combination thereof to allow for superior fit and customizable length. This feature allows the length of a torso strap 120/220 to be customized to the size of the wearer allowing a torso strap 120/220 to lay flat and appear smooth underneath clothing articles.

Referring now specifically to FIG. 2, a rear view of a bra system 10 is shown in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The reference numerals used in FIG. 2 for features in common with FIG. 1 are the same as in FIG. 1 because the features are the same. FIG. 2 additionally shows the first cup system 110 including a first pad 20 and the second cup system 210 including a second pad 20′. In some embodiments, the first cup system 110 contains a first pad 20 having an outer contour 22 associated with a perceived cup size and a first inner contour 24 associated with a first breast size. In the same embodiment a second cup system 210 includes a second pad 20′ having an outer contour 22 associated with a perceived cup size, and a second inner contour 24′ associated with a second breast size. In some embodiments, the first breast size is different than the second breast size. In some embodiments, the first bra pad 20 has an inner contour 24 associated with a first breast size that is at least one standard half cup size (e.g., A ½, B ½, C ½, D ½, etc.) less than the outer contour 22. In other embodiments a first bra pad 20 associated with a first breast size has an inner contour 24 associated with a perceived cup size, that is at least one standard whole cup size (e.g., A, B, C, D, etc.) less than the outer contour 22. In some embodiments, the second bra pad 20′ has an inner contour 24′ associated with a second breast size that is at least one standard half cup size (e.g., A ½, B ½, C ½, D ½, etc.) less than the outer contour 22. In other embodiments a second bra pad 20′ associated with a second breast size has an inner contour 24′ associated with a perceived cup size, that is at least one standard whole cup size (e.g., A, B, C, D, etc.) less than the outer contour 22.

A bra system 10 consisting of a first cup system 110 associated with a first pad 20 and a second cup system 210 associated with a second pad 20′ offers many advantages by addressing each breast independently. Current bra system models do not offer a separate first cup system 110 and second cup system 210 each associated with bra pads having inner contours 24/24′ selected from a breast size. Current bra system models restrict a wearer with uneven breasts to purchasing a bra system 10 having a first cup system 110 and a second cup system 210 being made to fit a single breast size. If a wearer selects a bra properly fitted to their smaller breast the larger breast will “spill over” the edge of a corresponding cup system. If a wearer selects a bra properly fitted to their larger breast, the cup will “gape” the smaller breast and it will not benefit from proper support which may result in excessive movement of the breast tissue. Such movement places strain on chest wall muscles and may cause the wearer great discomfort. A bra system 10 and bra pad 20/20′ which allows the wearers breast to be addressed separately by offering customizable inner contours 24/24′ allows for superior fit and comfort. In an embodiment, a first cup system 110 having a customizable inner contour 24 and outer contour 22 operably connected to a second cup system 210 having a customizable inner contour 24′ and an outer contour 22 of the same cup size as the outer contour 22 of the associated first cup system 110 results in the outward appearance of even breasts. In an embodiment, the bra system 10 comprises a first cup system 110 separate from a second cup system 210 wherein the first cup system 110 can be fully removed from the second cup system 210 and replaced by an alternative cup system (not shown).

FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 show an embodiment of a bra system 10 wherein both the first cup system 110 and the second cup system 210 consist of a triangular shape. In this same embodiment, the first cup system 110 having a triangular shape includes a first bra pad 20 having a triangular shape and the second cup system 210 includes a second bra pad 20′ having a triangular shape. In another embodiment, the first cup system 110 can be comprised of any one suitable shape such as round, triangular, vertical, teardrop or partial cup configuration. A first cup system 110 may include a first bra pad 20 having a same or different shape than the first cup system including round, triangular, vertical, teardrop, or partial cup configuration. A second cup system 210 may include a second bra pad 20′ having the same or different shape than the second cup system such as round, triangular, vertical, teardrop, or partial cup configuration. In some embodiments, the first cup system 110 or the second cup system 210 may optionally include a wire 150/250 fixedly incorporated into at least one portion of a perimeter edge 140/240/160/260/170/270 of the first cup system 110 or second cup system 210. In some embodiments, a first bra pad 20 or second bra pad 20′ includes a wire 250 fixedly incorporated into at least a portion of the perimeter edge 140/240/160/260/170/270. The wire 150/250 can be used to further define the shape of the bra cup system 110/210 or bra pad 20/20′.

In some embodiments, a first pad 20 is fixedly secured to the inner surface of a first cup system 110, and a second pad 20′ is fixedly secured to an inner surface of a second cup system 210. A bra pad 20/20′ is fixedly secured to an inner surface of a cup system 110/210 by, for example, an adhesive, complementary magnets, complementary hook-and-loop materials, stitches, or a combination thereof, or any other suitable means. In some embodiments, both the first bra pad 20 and the second bra pad 20′ are removable. As shown in FIG. 2, an opening placed at the perimeter 170/270 may be included between the material comprising the inner and outer surfaces of a first cup system 110 or second cup system 210 so that a bra pad 20/20′ may be slidably removed from between the inner and outer surfaces of the first cup system 110 and the second cup system 210, respectively. In another embodiment, an opening may be placed along the right-side perimeter 160/260 or left-side perimeter 170/270 between the material comprising the inner and outer surfaces of a first cup system 110 or second cup system 210 so that a bra pad 20/20′ may be slidably removed from between the inner and outer surfaces of the first cup system 110 and the second cup system 210. In another embodiment, an opening may be disposed anywhere along the inner surface of the first bra cup system 110 or the second bra cup system 210 to enable a bra pad 20/20′ to be removed from or inserted between the inner and outer surfaces of the first cup system 110 or the second cup system 210.

In some embodiments of a bra system 10 shown generally in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first shoulder strap 130 and second shoulder strap 230 are removably connected to one another via a third clasp 500. This feature allows the wearer to rearrange the straps into alternative arrangements so that the straps 130/230 are not visible under clothing articles, and do not slip off of the arm. In some embodiments, the first shoulder strap 130 and second shoulder strap 230 are further customizable by being in association with a slidable piece 600 which can be slidably moved along the length of the shoulder strap 130/230 in either direction to increase or decrease the total length.

In some embodiments, the bra system 10 includes a first cup system 110 including a first bra pad 20 including a first outer contour 22 associated with a first perceived cup size, and a second cup system 210 including a second bra pad 20′ including a second outer contour (not shown) associated with a second perceived cup size that is different than the first perceived cup size.

In some embodiments, one of the bra pads 20/20′ includes an inner contour 24/24′ that is substantially the same as (or is the same as) the outer contour 22. In such an embodiment, for example, the bra pad 20/20′ does not enhance the perceived cup size of the associated breast, but instead may provide other benefits such as increasing comfort of the bra system 10, smoothing the outer contour of the bra system 10, etc. For example and without limitation, in some embodiments, one or both of the bra pads 20/20′ includes an inner contour 24/24′ that has a size of B ½, and an outer contour 22 having a perceived size B ½. The bra pad 20/20′ may also have a shape that, when associated with the appropriate bra cup system 110/210, operates to enhance the perceived symmetry of the user's breasts (e.g., by repositioning some or all of one or both of the associated breasts) even if the perceived size of the breast associated with the bra pad 20/20′ having the same or substantially the same inner contour 24/24′ size and outer contour 22 size is not enhanced (e.g., enlarged).

FIG. 1 further shows a bra system 10 in accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure having a first cup system 110, a second cup system 210, a first torso strap 120, a first shoulder strap 130, a second torso strap 220, and a second shoulder strap 230 having even, smooth, and uniform surfaces. In another embodiment, the bra system 10 may include embellishments disposed on outer surfaces of the cup systems 110/210, torso straps 120/220, or shoulder straps 130/230. Such embellishments may include lace, rhinestones, or any other aesthetically pleasing adornment to the bra system 10. The outer surfaces of the cup systems 110/210, torso straps 120/220, or shoulder straps 130/230 may be composed of any suitable material including for example fabric, spandex, lycra, lace, raschel, tricot, silk, jersey knit, cotton, elastic, or any other suitable material or combination thereof.

FIGS. 3-5 illustrate a bra pad 20/20′ in accordance with a first embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 3 shows a front view of a first embodiment of a bra pad 20/20′ wherein the bra pad consists of a triangular shape. In other embodiments, the bra pad 20/20′ could exist in any suitable geometric shape, for example triangular, round, vertical, teardrop, or partial cup configuration. A bra pad 20/20′ as shown in FIG. 3 can be used in conjunction with a bra, brassiere, swimsuit, camisole, lingerie, or any other appropriate clothing article. A bra pad 20/20′ used in conjunction with an appropriate clothing article can comprise an independent and separate article which can be disassociated from the accompanying clothing article. In an alternative embodiment, a bra pad 20/20′ used in conjunction with an appropriate clothing article can be fixedly secured to the inner surfaces of the clothing article. For example, a first pad 20 can be fixedly secured to the inner surface of first cup system 110, and a second pad 20′ can be fixedly secured to the inner surface of a second cup 210 using an adhesive, complementary magnets, complementary hook and loop materials, stitches, or any other suitable means of attachment. In some embodiments, at least a portion of a bra pad 20/20′ is associated with a wire 150/250 or other article which can be used to maintain the shape of the bra pad. A wire material 150/250 can be fixedly associated between a bra pad 20/20′ and associated clothing article or alternatively affixed directly to a bra pad 20/20′. Molding machines may be used with custom created molds to produce pads in accordance with the present disclosure.

In general, the bra pad 20/20′ (or at least one bra pad 20/20′ associated with a bra system 10) is configured to enhance the perceived cup size of an associated breast by at least ½ cup size, for example by ½ cup size (e.g., from an A ½ cup to a B cup), by 1 cup size (e.g., from a B cup to a C cup), by 1-½ cup sizes (e.g., from an A ½ cup to a C cup), by 2 cup sizes (e.g., from a B cup to a D cup), by 2-½ cup sizes (e.g., from an A ½ cup to a D cup), by 3 cup sizes (e.g., from an A cup to a D cup), by 3-½ cup sizes (e.g., from an A ½ cup to an E cup, also referred to as a DD cup), by 4 cup sizes (e.g., from no cup to a D cup), by 4-½ cup sizes (e.g., from a B ½ cup to a G cup, also referred to as a DDDD cup), by 5 cup sizes (e.g., from no cup to an E cup), or by more than 5 cup sizes.

As shown in FIG. 3, the bra pad 20/20′ comprises an outer contour 22 associated with a perceived cup size. The same bra pad 20/20′ additionally comprises an inner contour 24/24′ associated with a breast size. The inner contour 24/24′ may consist of a convex profile, or any other suitable profile or form, for example, flat, raised, concave, rough, smooth or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, a first bra pad 20 comprises an inner contour 24 having a shape and profile formed to mirror an associated outer contour 22. In other embodiments, a first bra pad 20 comprises an inner contour 24 having a shape and profile of a different form than the outer contour 22.
