QUICK DETACH OPTIC MOUNT
A firearm accessory mount comprising: a base configured to removably connect to a firearm rail; an upper mount portion connected to the base; the upper mount portion connected by way of a stabilizing tapered feature.
This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63/175,624, filed on Apr. 16, 2021, entitled “STERN DEFENSE DEAD ZERO QUICK DETACH OPTIC MOUNT”, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all that is taught and disclosed therein.
FIELD OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates to pistol optics.
BACKGROUND AND SUMMARYAR and other sporting rifle shooters are trending towards lighter smaller accessories and optics to upgrade their rifles. They also want these optics to be versatile and easy to remove quickly in case there is a need to use an alternate sight system that is mounted on the rifle. Being able to remove the optic and reinstall it without having to re-sight the rifle is a problem with most optics mounts.
Other mount manufactures make claims that their mounts can be removed and reinstalled without re-sighting in the rifle but we have found that there are too many variations and inconsistences in picatinny rails that make is nearly impossible for quick clamp mounts to clamp on the same way every time.
The above disadvantage is addressed by a firearm accessory mount comprising: a base configured to removably connect to a firearm rail; an upper mount portion connected to the base; the upper mount portion connected by way of a stabilizing tapered feature.
The Stern Defense Dead Zero Optics Mount (DZOM) has overcome this problem by mounting the base of the mount to the picatinny rail with a standard reliable method that many fixed mount optics employ. These being, recoil lugs to engage the slots in the picatinny rail, a clamping system that engages the angles on the picatinny rails and bolts that pull the clamp and the base together onto the picatinny rail. Once the base is clamped to the rail, the detachable optic mount is securely, quickly and very accurately clamped to the base. The key to the accuracy is the leverage locking system that utilizes 6 positive locking locators that simultaneously work together to insure a very accurate and secure hook up between the fixed base and the removable optic mount.
Scope of Use and Explanation of Components
The picatinny rail that is referred to in the section is a military standard rail interface system that provides a mounting platform for firearm accessories and in this case an optic mount. The Base (Item 10) mounts to a Picatinny rail. The Recoil Lugs (Feature A15) are inserted into the recoil lug slots on the picatinny rail. The double 45° angle recess (Feature A20) engages the male double 45° angle on the picatinny rail. The Base Clamp (Item 20) will engage the other side of the picatinny rail and the top locking surface (A30) of the Base using two 10/32 socket head cap screws (Item 70), after tightening these screws the base will be securely mounted to the picatinny rail.
Claims
