EXERCISE DUMBBELL
An exercise dumbbell that is configured to be manufactured from a sustainable material and further configured to provide alternate weight configurations. The present invention includes a support bar member that is manufactured from bamboo having a hollow passage extending therethrough. An internal support rod is present within the support bar member and extends the length thereof. Opposing ends of the internal support rod are configured to receive fasteners thereof so as to secure a first weight member and a second weight member. The first weight member and the second weight member are manufactured in a preferred embodiment from natural stones. In a preferred embodiment the first weight member and the second weight member have different weights. The first weight member and second weight member include recesses formed on the surface thereof operable to receive a portion of the ends of the support bar member.
The present invention relates generally to exercise apparatus, more specifically but not by way of limitation, an exercise dumbbell that is manufactured from natural materials such as but not limited to bamboo and stones wherein the present invention includes a first weight and second weight having unequal masses.
BACKGROUNDAs is known in the art, there are a plurality of type of exercise apparatus that are utilized by individuals as part of an exercise routine. Individuals routinely engage in two primary types of exercise wherein one type is known as cardio and the other primary type is referred to as resistance training. For the former, that type of exercise is focused on maintaining an elevated heart rate for a particular period of time. For the latter, this type of exercise employs some type of weight, weight machine, band or some other element that provides resistance against the movement being made by an individual. Resistance exercises are an important part of an overall health and wellness routine and numerous studies have shown the benefits of incorporating a resistance routine into an overall health and wellness program.
There are many types of equipment that provide resistance for users engaged in exercise resistance routines. Current options include but are not limited to conventional free weights, weight machines and resistance bands. Free weights are provided in various styles and sizes that include weights and bars to smaller fixed weight dumbbells. For the latter, these dumbbells are typically manufactured from iron or other suitable material and many styles provide a small support bar member having an equal weight on each side. As green initiatives begin to permeate many different industries, consumers are seeking alternatives to purchase sustainable green-friendly products. Furthermore, individuals engaged in routine exercise are constantly looking for a different type of apparatus that will provide work of their muscle groups in a slightly different manner.
It is intended within the scope of the present invention to provide an exercise dumbbell that is configured to provide a first weight and a second weight manufactured from a natural material and further provide a support bar manufactured from a sustainable material.

Referring now to the drawings submitted herewith, wherein various elements depicted therein are not necessarily drawn to scale and wherein through the views and figures like elements are referenced with identical reference numerals, there is illustrated an exercise dumbbell 100 constructed according to the principles of the present invention.
An embodiment of the present invention is discussed herein with reference to the figures submitted herewith. Those skilled in the art will understand that the detailed description herein with respect to these figures is for explanatory purposes and that it is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that alternative embodiments are plausible. By way of example but not by way of limitation, those having skill in the art in light of the present teachings of the present invention will recognize a plurality of alternate and suitable approaches dependent upon the needs of the particular application to implement the functionality of any given detail described herein, beyond that of the particular implementation choices in the embodiment described herein. Various modifications and embodiments are within the scope of the present invention.
It is to be further understood that the present invention is not limited to the particular methodology, materials, uses and applications described herein, as these may vary. Furthermore, it is also to be understood that the terminology used herein is used for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only, and is not intended to limit the scope of the present invention. It must be noted that as used herein and in the claims, the singular forms “a”, “an” and “the” include the plural reference unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Thus, for example, a reference to “an element” is a reference to one or more elements and includes equivalents thereof known to those skilled in the art. All conjunctions used are to be understood in the most inclusive sense possible. Thus, the word “or” should be understood as having the definition of a logical “or” rather than that of a logical “exclusive or” unless the context clearly necessitates otherwise. Structures described herein are to be understood also to refer to functional equivalents of such structures. Language that may be construed to express approximation should be so understood unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.
References to “one embodiment”, “an embodiment”, “exemplary embodiments”, and the like may indicate that the embodiment(s) of the invention so described may include a particular feature, structure or characteristic, but not every embodiment necessarily includes the particular feature, structure or characteristic.
Now referring in particular to the Figures submitted as a part hereof, the exercise dumbbell 100 includes a support bar member 10. The support bar member 10 is manufactured from a durable rigid material and is formed in a rod shape. The support bar member 10 includes a first end 11 and a second end 12. The support bar member 10 in a preferred embodiment is manufactured from bamboo and includes a hollow passage therethrough (not particularly illustrated herein). It should be understood that the support bar member 10 could be provided in alternate diameters that are configured so as to be easily grasped by a human hand. While no particular length of the support bar member 10 is required, good results have been achieved utilizing a length of a support bar member 10 that ranges from five inches to seven inches.
The support bar member 10 has internally disposed therein extending the length thereof an internal support rod 15. The internal support rod 15 extends through the first weight member 20 and the second weight member 25 having ends formed with threads thereon so as to receive fasteners 17. The internal support rod 15 is manufactured from a durable rigid material such as but not limited to aluminum. The internal support rod 15 provides additional structural support for the support bar member 10 so as to ensure the ability to support the first weight member 20 and second weight member 25. It should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the internal support rod 15 could be provided in alternate diameters and manufactured from different materials and achieve the desired objective stated herein.
The first weight member 20 is secured to the first end 11 of the support bar member 10 wherein the fastener 17 biases the first weight member 20 towards the first end 11 of the support bar member 10 so as to maintain the position of the first weight member 20. The second weight member 25 is similarly secured to the support bar member 10 to the second end 12 of the support bar member 10. The second weight member 25 and the first weight member 20 include a recess 27 formed therein that is the diameter of the support bar member 10. The recess 27 allows a portion of the support bar member 10 to penetrate into the first weight member 20 and the second weight member 25 to maintain position thereof. It should be understood that the recess 27 could be formed in alternate depths.
The first weight member 20 and the second weight member 25 are manufactured from a natural dense material such as but not limited to stone. It is desired within the scope of the present invention that the core elements of the exercise dumbbell 100 such as the support bar member 10, the first weight member 20 and the second weight member 25 are manufactured from a sustainable green material. As the first weight member 20 and the second weight member 25 are manufactured from natural stone, the first weight member 20 and second weight member 25 will have a weight that is not equal. This provides a further benefit to a user as the unequal weight produces work on different muscle fibers if oriented in a different position but execution of the same motion is performed. While in one embodiment of the exercise dumbbell 100 incorporates a first weight member 20 and a second weight member 25 having different weights, it should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the first weight member 20 and second weight member 25 could be formed to be the same weight. While not particularly illustrated herein, it is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the fasteners 17 could be recessed into the exterior surface of the first weight member 20 and second weight member 25.
In the preceding detailed description, reference has been made to the accompanying drawings that form a part hereof, and in which are shown by way of illustration specific embodiments in which the invention may be practiced. These embodiments, and certain variants thereof, have been described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the invention. It is to be understood that other suitable embodiments may be utilized and that logical changes may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. The description may omit certain information known to those skilled in the art. The preceding description is, therefore, not intended to be limited to the specific forms set forth herein, but on the contrary, it is intended to cover such alternatives, modifications, and equivalents, as can be reasonably included within the spirit and scope of the invention.
