CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application is a continuation of U.S. Pat. Application No. 16/458,957, filed Jul. 1, 2019, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates to dispensing bottles and, more particularly, to dispensing bottles for adhesives.

BACKGROUND

Dispensing bottles generally include a cap which is replaced with a pump for dispensing the substance inside. For dispensing substances, such as adhesive, for example, the cap or a pump may be more difficult to separate from the dispensing bottle as the adhesive may dry and adhere the cap or pump to the bottle.

SUMMARY

A bottle for dispensing adhesives includes a bottle body having an inner volume to accommodate adhesive therein. The bottle includes a bottom portion, a mid portion and a top portion extending from a bottom surface of the bottle body to a shoulder surface of the bottle body in a longitudinal direction. The bottom portion, mid portion and top portion each have a bottom portion cross-section, a mid portion cross-section and a top portion cross-section, respectively. The bottom portion cross-section is greater than the mid portion cross-section to provide stability to the bottle. The bottom portion accommodates greater amount of adhesive therein than the mid portion of the bottle. The top portion includes a textured top portion outer surface to allow gripping surface.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to FIGS. 1 - 5, a bottle 10 for dispensing a substance 11 includes a bottle body 12 having an inner volume 14 to accommodate the substance 11, such as, for example, an adhesive, therein. The bottle body 12 includes a bottom portion 18, a mid portion 20 and a top portion 22 extending from a bottom surface 24 to a shoulder surface 26 of the bottle body 12 in a longitudinal direction 30. A neck portion 32 extends from the shoulder surface 26 of the bottle body 12 having an opening 34 for dispensing the adhesive 11 from the bottle 10 and threading 36 for accommodating either a cap (not shown) to secure the opening or a pump (not shown) for metering the substance 11 from the bottle 10.

The bottom portion 18, mid portion 20 and top portion 22 each have a bottom portion cross-section 38, a mid portion cross-section 40 and a top portion cross-section 42, respectively, and each portion 18, 20, 22 extends in the longitudinal direction 30, as shown in FIG. 2. The bottom portion cross-section 38 is greater than the mid portion cross-section 40 to provide stability to the bottle 10.

The bottle body 12 includes a bottle wall 44 forming the bottle body 12, as best seen in FIG. 1. The bottle wall 44 has approximately the same thickness throughout the bottom portion 18, the mid portion 20 and the top portion 22, therefore defining a greater inner volume in the bottom portion 18 to accommodate more substance 11 therein.

Referring to FIGS. 6-10 and 31-35, in accordance with some embodiments, the top portion includes a gripping top portion outer surface 46. In one embodiment, the surface is textured. One type of texturing may be knurling. However, other types of texturing may be used to allow the user to grip the surface and minimize the surface from being slippery during use.

In accordance with some embodiments, the bottom portion 18 and the top portion 22 extend approximately the same amount, as seen in FIGS. 1-10, 21-35. In accordance with other embodiments, the bottom portion 18 and the top portion 22 may extend different amounts, as shown in FIGS. 11 - 20 and 35-50.

Referring to FIGS. 21 - 25 and 46-50, in accordance with further embodiments, the bottle 10 includes sides 50, 52 with each side having a side indent 54, 56 to allow the bottle 10 to be squeezed with more ease.

In operation, the bottle 10 is filled with substance 11, such as adhesive, for example. As the substance 11 fills the inner volume 14 of the bottle 10, the greater bottom portion cross-section 38 allows more substance 11 to be accommodated in the bottom portion 18 of the bottle 10, thereby making the bottle 10 heavier and more stable when placed on a surface. Additionally, the gripping surface 46 allows the user to obtain a better grip of the bottle when removing the cap to replace with a pump or vice versa. The texturing of the gripping surface 46 minimizes slipping when the user is holding the bottle 11 and unscrewing the cap or pump therefrom.

One advantage of the bottle 10 is that the bottom portion 18 provides additional stability to the bottle 11. Such stability is particularly desired when the bottle is used with a dispensing pump, which may be relatively heavy and especially heavier proportionally when placed on a smaller sized bottle shown in FIGS. 1-25.

Another advantage of the bottle 10 is that the gripping surface 46 provides gripping means for the user when either the cap or dispensing pump need to be unscrewed from the bottle and replaced with the other. Such additional gripping is particularly desired after the bottle with adhesive has been used and adhesive may have potentially dripped on the threading 36 binding the pump or cap to the neck portion 32 of the bottle 10.

A further advantage of the bottle 10 is that the indented sides 52, 54 provide additional squeezing assistance and allow the bottle 10 to flex more easily to expel the adhesive 11 therefrom.

Additionally, while the principles of the present disclosure have been described herein, it is to be understood by those skilled in the art that this description is made only by way of example and not as a limitation as to the scope of the disclosure. Other embodiments are contemplated within the scope of the present disclosure in addition to the exemplary embodiments shown and described herein. Modifications and substitutions by one of ordinary skill in the art are considered to be within the scope of the present disclosure.
