MODULAR BED FRAME

A modular bed frame includes two longitudinal members each having two opposite side walls. One side wall of each longitudinal member has a plurality of spaced-apart openings formed in an upper portion thereof. Lower portions of the two side walls of the longitudinal members are solid. A plurality of support bars are detachably connected between the longitudinal members. Each support bar has a bottom surface formed with two engaging slots proximate to two opposite end portions thereof. Each end portion of each support bar is inserted into one of the openings and then engaged to the lower portion through the engaging slot.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims priority to Taiwanese Utility Model Application No. 110214280, filed on Nov. 30, 2021.

FIELD

The disclosure relates to a bed frame, and more particularly to a modular bed frame.

BACKGROUND

Referring to FIG. 1, an existing modular iron bed frame includes a main frame 91, a plurality of support bars 92, and a plurality of legs 93. The main frame 91 includes two longitudinal bars 911 and two horizontal bars 912 (only one is shown). An inner side surface of each longitudinal bar 911 is welded with a plurality of spaced-apart U-shaped brackets 913. Each support bar 92 is connected between the longitudinal bars 911 with two opposite ends 921 thereof respectively engaged to corresponding brackets 913.

However, the support bars 92 of the existing modular iron bed frame are easily disengaged from the brackets 913, so that installation and use of the existing modular iron bed frame are unstable. Further, the brackets 913 must be made first, after which they are welded to the main frame 91, so that the existing modular iron bed frame is time-consuming and costly to manufacture.

SUMMARY

Therefore, an object of the disclosure is to provide a modular bed frame that can alleviate at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art.

According to the present disclosure, a modular bed frame includes a frame and a support unit.

The frame includes at least two hollow longitudinal members that extend in a longitudinal direction of the frame and that are spaced apart from each other in a width direction of the frame. Each of the at least two longitudinal members has two side walls opposite to each other in the width direction. Each of the side walls has an upper portion and a lower portion. One of the two side walls of each of the at least two longitudinal members has a plurality of openings formed in the upper portion thereof and spaced apart from each other along a length thereof. The lower portions of the two side walls of the at least two longitudinal members are solid.

The support unit includes a plurality of support bars detachably connected between the at least two longitudinal members. Each of the support bars has a bottom surface formed with two engaging slots extending inwardly therefrom and respectively proximate to two opposite end portions of a corresponding one of the support bars. Each of the two opposite end portions of each of the support bars is inserted into one of the openings in one of the two side walls of a corresponding one of the at least two longitudinal members and then engaged to the lower portion of the one of the two side walls that is immediately below the one of the openings through the engaging slot.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to FIGS. 2 to 4, a modular bed frame according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is suitable for placing a mattress (not shown), and includes a frame 1, a support unit 2, and a plurality of legs 3 connected to the frame 1. The frame 1 and the support unit 2 cooperatively define a placement space 4 for placing the mattress thereon. The frame 1 includes three hollow longitudinal members 11 that extend in a longitudinal direction (X) of the frame 1 and that are spaced apart from and parallel to each other in a width direction (Y) of the frame 1, and two horizontal members 12 that are spaced apart from each other in the longitudinal direction (X) and that extend in the width direction (Y).

Each longitudinal member 11 is composed of two hollow longitudinal bars 111 connected to each other in the longitudinal direction (X). A connecting member 112 is used to interconnect adjacent inner ends of the longitudinal bars 111. Each longitudinal bar 111 has two side walls 113 opposite to each other in the width direction (Y). Each of the side walls 113 has an upper portion and a lower portion. The lower portions of the side walls 113 of the longitudinal bars 111 are solid. One of the side walls 113 of each of the longitudinal bars 111 of two outer ones of the longitudinal members 11 has a plurality of openings 114 formed in the upper portion thereof and spaced apart from each other along a length thereof. Each of the side walls 113 of each of the longitudinal bars 111 of a middle one of the longitudinal members 11 has a plurality of openings 114 formed in the upper portion thereof and spaced apart from each other along a length thereof.

In this embodiment, each horizontal member 12 includes two horizontal bars 121 each of which is connected between two of the legs 3 to form a substantially inverted U-shape. The outer end of each longitudinal bar 111 of each longitudinal member 11 is connected between a junction of each horizontal bar 121 and a corresponding one of the legs 3. Noteworthily, the number of the horizontal bar 121 is not limited to two. In other variations of this embodiment, the number of the horizontal bar 121 may be one or more than three to improve the support stability or to enlarge the dimensions of the modular bed frame of this disclosure.

As shown in FIG. 2, the modular bed frame of this embodiment is exemplified as a double bed that uses three longitudinal members 11 and two horizontal members 12 to enhance the load-bearing strength of the center thereof. In other embodiments, the modular bed frame may be a single bed which includes only two longitudinal members 11 and two horizontal bars 121 between the longitudinal members 11.

Referring to FIG. 5, in combination with FIGS. 3 and 4, the support unit 2 includes a plurality of support bars 21 each of which is detachably connected between one of the longitudinal bars 111 of one of the outer longitudinal members 11 and a corresponding one of the longitudinal bars 111 of the middle longitudinal member 11. Each of the support bars 21 has a bottom surface 210 formed with two engaging slots 212 extending inwardly therefrom and respectively proximate to two opposite end portions 211 thereof. Each of the end portions 211 of each support bar 21 is inserted into one of the openings 114 in one of the side walls 113 of a corresponding one of the longitudinal bars 111 and is then engaged to the lower portion of the one of the side walls 113 that is immediately below the one of the openings 114 through the engaging slot 212.

Referring to FIG. 6, in combination with FIGS. 4 and 5, each of the engaging slots 212 has a wide mouth portion 213 immediately adjacent to the bottom surface 210 and defined by two wide mouth surfaces 216, and a narrow mouth portion 214 that is connected to the wide mouth portion 213, that is spaced apart from the bottom surface 210, and that is defined by two narrow mouth surfaces 217. The largest distance (L1) between the wide mouth surfaces 216 is greater than a distance (L2) between the narrow mouth surfaces 217. Thus, when each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 is engaged to the lower portion of the one of the side walls 113 that is immediately below the one of the openings 114, the lower portion of the one of the side walls 113 can pass through the wide mouth portion 213 and engage the narrow mouth portion 214 of the engaging slot 212.

A depth (H1) of each engaging slot 212 that extends into the bottom surface 210 of each support bar 21 is half a height (H2) of each support bar 21. Because each engaging slot 212 is cut out from the corresponding support bar 21, each support bar 21 is easy to make, and has a reduced manufacturing costs. It is understood that, when the depth (H1) of each engaging slot 212 is excessively deep, each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 is easily fractured; and, when the depth (H1) of each engaging slot 212 is shallow, the engagement stability of each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 with the corresponding longitudinal bar 111 is reduced. Hence, with the depth (H1) of each engaging slot 212 of this embodiment being half the height (H2) of each support bar 21, each support bar 21 can have a good structural strength and installation stability.

Referring to FIG. 7, in combination with FIGS. 4 and 5, during assembly, because each opening 114 and each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 have a rectangular cross section, and since each opening 114 has a size greater than that of each end portion 211 of each support bar 21, each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 can be easily inserted into one of the openings 114 of the corresponding longitudinal bar 111. When each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 is inserted into one of the openings 114 in one of the side walls 113 of a corresponding longitudinal bar 111 until the wide mouth portion 213 of the engaging slot 212 is aligned with the lower portion of the side wall 113 that is immediately below the one of the openings 114, each support bar 21 can then be pressed downward to engage each end portion 211 thereof with the lower portion of the side wall 113 that is immediately below the one of the openings 114 through the engaging slot 212, thereby connecting each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 with the corresponding longitudinal bar 111. Hence, easy and stable assembly of this disclosure can be achieved.

Further, as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, because the largest distance (L1) between the wide mouth surfaces 216 defining the wide mouth portion 213 is greater than the distance (L2) between the narrow mouth surfaces 217 defining the narrow mouth portion 214, the wide mouth portion 213 is capable of guiding the lower portion of the side wall 113 of the longitudinal bar 111 into engagement with the engaging slot 212, thereby enhancing the assembling convenience. Further, by virtue of the narrow mouth portion 214 of the engaging slot 212, each end portion 211 of each support bar 21 can be tightly engaged to the lower portion of the side wall 113 of the longitudinal member 11, thereby increasing the connection stability of each support bar 21 to the corresponding longitudinal bars 111.

After the frame 1, the support unit 2, and the legs 3 are assembled, the mattress can then be placed in the placement space 4 for use.

While the disclosure has been described in connection with what is considered the exemplary embodiment, it is understood that this disclosure is not limited to the disclosed embodiment but is intended to cover various arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and equivalent arrangements.

Claims

1. A modular bed frame, comprising:

a frame including at least two hollow longitudinal members that extend in a longitudinal direction of said frame and that are spaced apart from each other in a width direction of said frame, each of said at least two longitudinal members having two side walls opposite to each other in the width direction, each of said side walls having an upper portion and a lower portion, one of said two side walls of each of said at least two longitudinal members having a plurality of openings formed in said upper portion thereof and spaced apart from each other along a length thereof, said lower portions of said two side walls of said at least two longitudinal members being solid; and
a support unit including a plurality of support bars detachably connected between said at least two longitudinal members, each of said support bars having a bottom surface formed with two engaging slots extending inwardly therefrom and respectively proximate to two opposite end portions of a corresponding one of said support bars, each of said two opposite end portions of each of said support bars being inserted into one of said openings in one of said two side walls of a corresponding one of said at least two longitudinal members and then engaged to said lower portion of said one of said two side walls that is immediately below said one of said openings through said engaging slot.

2. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein said frame further includes two horizontal members spaced apart from each other in the longitudinal direction and connected between said at least two longitudinal members.

3. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 2, wherein said frame and said support unit cooperatively define a placement space for placing a mattress thereon.

4. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said two engaging slots has a wide mouth portion immediately adjacent to said bottom surface for passage of said lower portion of said one of said two side walls that is immediately below said one of said openings, and a narrow mouth portion spaced apart from said bottom surface for engaging said lower portion of said one of said two side walls that passes through said wide mouth portion.

5. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 4, wherein said wide mouth portion is defined by two wide mouth surfaces, said narrow mouth portion being defined by two narrow mouth surfaces, a distance between said wide mouth surfaces being greater than a distance between said narrow mouth surfaces.

The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said openings has a size greater than that of each of said two opposite end portions of each of said support bars so as to allow passage of each of said two opposite end portions of each of said support bars into a corresponding one of said openings.

7. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 6, wherein each of said openings and each of said two opposite end portions have a rectangular cross section.

8. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein a depth of each of said engaging slots that extends into said bottom surface of each of said support bars is half a height of each of said support bars.

9. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a plurality of legs connected to said frame.

10. The modular bed frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein said frame includes three said longitudinal members spaced apart from and parallel to each other, each of said two side walls of a middle one of said longitudinal members having a plurality of said openings, each of said support bars being detachably connected between one of two outer ones of said longitudinal members and said middle one of said longitudinal members.
