DETAILED DESCRIPTIONSystems and methods described herein provide a pillow with a sealable pocket in the middle of the pillow. The pocket is used for insertion and placement of at least one fabric pouch containing additional fill that increases the height and softness of the pillow. A user may insert the at least one pouch with an amount of fill within and positioned in the pocket in manners that fit the user’s needs for softness, height, and other requirements. The pocket may be closed with zipper, Velcro, buttons, snaps, and/or other fastening mechanism.

The pillow has three sections, top and bottom, prefilled and permanently sealed, with the top and bottom permanently fused. An empty middle section comprises the pocket or an envelope that a user may fill on their own with pillow fill that is an established commodity.
Turning to the figure,
In an embodiment, a pillow of adjustable thickness comprising a first padded layer, a second padded layer, and a space of flexible volume between the layers. The space receives insertion of a pouch containing additional fill, increases its volume and expands the layers outward based on the insertion, and based on removal of the pouch, decreases its volume, and facilitates return of layers to original position. The space is a temporarily sealable pocket. The first and second layers are of like size and like shape and are permanently attached as a single unit. Flexibility of the volume promotes insertion of multiple pouches. The space is optionally segmented into multiple subspaces via placement of fabric partitions within the space. The subspaces promote insertion of multiple pouches. Alternatively, the pouch is not used, and the additional fill is placed directly into the space.
In another embodiment, a cushioning device of adjustable thickness is provided comprising a padded fabric envelope with an accessible interior space of flexible volume. The device also comprises a binding mechanism for temporarily sealing the space and at least one pouch for placement in the space. The at least one pouch contains additional fill. Placement of the at least one pouch promotes increased thickness of the padded fabric envelope. The binding mechanism comprises at least one of a zipper, Velcro, buttons, and snaps.
