(J) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new pants assembly embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 6, the tool retaining pants assembly 10 generally comprises trousers 12 to which a plurality of retainers 14 is engaged. The trousers 12 are configured to be donned by a user so that the trousers 12 substantially cover the user from a waist to ankles of the user. The trousers 12 comprise a waistband 16 to which a plurality of belt loops 18 is engaged. A back rise 20 and a front rise 22 are engaged to and extend from the waistband 16. The front rise 22 is engaged to the back rise 20. A pair of back pockets 24 and a pair of front pockets 26 are engaged to the back rise 20 and to the front rise 22, respectively. A fly 28 is positioned in the front rise 22. A pair of legs 30 is engaged to and extends from the back rise 20 and the front rise 22.

Each retainer 14 is configured to selectively engage a respective tool 32 of a plurality of tools 32 of a trade so that the respective tool 32 is removably engaged to the trousers 12. Each retainer 14 may be configured to selectively engage a respective tool 32 of a plurality of tools 32 used by an electrician, or other trade, such as, but not limited to, plumbing, HVAC, and the like.

The plurality of retainers 14 comprises a plurality of outer sleeves 34, a plurality of loops 36, a panel 38, a flat ring 40, a retainer clip 42, a D-ring 44, and an inner sleeve 46. The present invention also anticipates the plurality of retainers 14 comprising other retaining means, such as, but not limited to, magnets, hook and loop straps, and the like.

Each outer sleeve 34 has an open top 48 and an open bottom 50. The open top 48 is configured for insertion of a respective tool 32 so that the respective tool 32 is removably engaged to the trousers 12. The open top 48 is circumferentially larger than the open bottom 50 so that the outer sleeve 34 is tapered. The outer sleeve 34 thus is configured to selectively engage pliers 52, diagonal wire cutting pliers 54, and the like, as shown in FIG. 5. The plurality of outer sleeves 34 comprises two outer sleeves 34, which brackets an outer seam 56 of a respective leg 30 of the trousers 12 proximate to the back rise 20 and the front rise 22.

Each of a plurality of tubes 90 is engaged to and extends from a respective loop 36 into an associated leg 30. The tube 90 and the respective loop 36 are configured for insertion of a respective tool 32 so that the respective tool 32 is removably engaged to the trousers 12. The tube 90 and the respective loop 36 are sized for insertion of a shaft 58 of a screwdriver 60. The respective loop 36 is configured to engage a handle 62 of the screwdriver upon insertion of the shaft 58 of the screwdriver 60 into the tube 90 and the respective loop 36 to removably engage the screwdriver 60 to the trousers 12.

The panel 38 is engaged to a respective leg 30 and defines an elongate pocket 64. The elongate pocket 64 is positioned over an outer thigh of the user upon donning of the trousers 12. The elongate pocket 64 is configured for selective insertion of a respective tool 32, such as a pocket level 66, as shown in FIG. 6, or the like, to removably engage the respective tool 32 to the trousers 12.

The flat ring 40 engaged to the trousers 12 proximate to a respective front pocket 26. The flat ring 40 is configured to engage a retaining clip 68 of a respective tool 32, such as a tape measure 70, as shown in FIG. 6, or the like, to removably engage the respective tool 32 to the trousers 12.

The retainer clip 42 is engaged to a respective belt loop 18 and is configured to engage a respective tool 32, such as a box cutter 72, as shown in FIG. 6, or the like, to removably engage the box cutter 72 to the trousers 12.

The D-ring 44 engaged to a respective belt loop 18. A cord 74 is engaged to and extends from the respective belt loop 18. A ring clip 76 is engaged to the cord 74 distal from the D-ring 44. The cord 74 is configured to be inserted through an orifice 78 in a respective tool 32, such as a roll of tape 80, as shown in FIG. 6, or the like. The ring clip 76 then is positioned to engage the D-ring 44 so that the respective tool 32 is removably engaged to the trousers 12.

The inner sleeve 46 is engaged to and is positioned in a respective front pocket 26. The inner sleeve 46 has an upper end 82 and a lower end 84, which are open. The upper end 82 is configured for insertion of a respective tool 32 so that the respective tool 32 is removably engaged to the trousers 12 and is substantially positioned in the respective front pocket 26. The upper end 82 is circumferentially larger than the lower end 84 so that the inner sleeve 46 is tapered. The inner sleeve 46 thus is configured to selectively engage a voltage tester 86, as shown in FIG. 6.

In one configuration of the plurality of retainers 14, the plurality of loops 36 comprises two loops 36, which bracket an outer seam 56 of a respective leg 30 of the trousers 12. The loops 36 are positioned on the same leg 30 as the outer sleeves 34 and are positioned above the outer sleeves 34. The inner sleeve 46 is positioned proximate to the flat ring 40. The retainer clip 42 is engaged to a respective belt loop 18 proximate to the flat ring 40. The panel 38 is positioned below the inner sleeve 46. The D-ring 44 is engaged to a respective belt loop 18 proximate to the inner sleeve 46. The present invention also anticipates other configurations of the plurality of retainers 14 wherein the retainers 14 are alternatively positioned and wherein not all retainers 14 are present.

The tool 32 retaining pants assembly 10 also may comprise a pair of pads 88, as shown in FIG. 1. Each pad 88 is engaged to a respective leg 30 of the trousers 12 so that the pad 88 is positioned over an associated knee of the user upon donning of the trousers 12. The pads 88 thus are configured to cushion knees of the user when the user is in a kneeling position.

In use, the trousers 12 are donned by a user. Pliers 52 are inserted into a respective outer sleeve 34. A shaft 58 of a screwdriver 60 is inserted into a respective loop 36. A pocket level 66 is inserted into the elongate pocket 64. A retaining clip 68 of a tape measure 70 is engaged to the flat ring 40. A box cutter 72 is engaged to the retainer clip 42. The cord 74 is inserted through the orifice 78 in a roll of tape 80 and the ring clip 76 is engaged to the D-ring 44. A voltage tester 86 is inserted through the upper end 82 of the inner sleeve 46. The present invention can obviate a need for a tool belt and allows a tradesperson to carry a plurality of tools 32 without putting stress on their lower back.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
