Chair, Table, and Desk and Method for Using the Same

Abstract

A furniture set is provided that can be reconfigured into various arrangements. The furniture set includes a chair, a frame and cushion, and one or more tables, that may function as a chair, sitting desk, standing desk, and/or a lounge chair.

The present application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63/582,722, filed on Sep. 14, 2023, tilted “furniture” to Peter Oren, the entire disclosure of which is expressly incorporated by reference herein.

BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

Different types of furniture include chairs, side tables, and desk.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a set of furniture is provided. The set of furniture comprises a chair having a frame and a cushion and a table having a base and tabletop. The set of furniture has a first state with the tabletop supported by the base to form a table and a second state with the tabletop supported by the chair to form a desk.

According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a method of arranging a set of furniture is provided. The method comprises the steps of providing a chair and table, the table having a tabletop and base, positioning the table away from the chair, and supporting the tabletop on the chair to create a desk.

According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a method of arranging a chair is provided. The method comprises the steps of providing a chair having a frame and a cushion. The cushion includes a first portion configured to support the back of a person, a second portion configured to support the posterior of a person, and a third portion foldable under the seat portion. The method further includes the step of positioning the cushion on the frame with the first portion positioned to support a back of a person, the second portion positioned to support to support a posterior of a person, and the third portion folded under the second portion to create a first person support length defined by the first and second portions of the cushion. The method further includes the step of unfolding the cushion to create a second person support length defined by the first, second, and third portions of the cushion. The second person support length is greater than the first person support length.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

For the purpose of understanding the present disclosure, specific language will be used to describe the embodiments illustrated in the drawings. No limitation in the scope of the present disclosure is intended by the detailed descriptions.

As shown in FIG. 1, a chair 10 and a table 12 positioned away from chair 10 are provided as set of furniture in a table and chair arrangement. Table 12 includes a base 14 and a removable tabletop 16 supported by base 14 in a state to form a table. Tabletop 16 can be removed from base 14, exposing a canvas/fabric web 17, and supported by chair 10 in another arraignment/state to create a sitting desk as shown in FIG. 2 with tabletop 16 positioned vertically adjacent to chair 10. In another yet another arrangement/state, base 14 is supported by chair 10 and tabletop 16 is supported by base 14 to create a standing desk as shown in FIG. 3. In yet another arrangement/state, table 12 may also be positioned on a desk 20 as shown in FIG. 5 to create another standing desk.

As shown in FIG. 1, chair 10 includes a frame 24, a cushion 26, and a pair of armrest cushions 27 covering a portion of armrests 32. Cushion 26 has a first portion/back section 28, a second portion/first seat section 30 to support the posterior of a person, and third portion/a second seat section 33 positioned under first seat section 30 when used as a chair. As shown in FIG. 4, cushion 26 can be removed from frame 24 and unfolded to create a mat for resting and/or sleeping flat. When used as a mat, unfolded cushion 26 has a person support length defined by all three cushion portions 28, 30, 33 that is greater than a person support length of cushion 26 defined by first and second portions 28, 30 when cushion 26 is folded and used as a chair. Armrest cushions 27 are removed from armrests 32 of frame 24, no longer covering armrests 32, when table 12 is in the standing desk state as shown in FIG. 3. Armrest cushions 27 may also be removed to be used as pillows when cushion 26 is removed to be used as a mat.

Cushion 26 may also be unfolded so that second seat section 33 is supported by table 12 as shown in FIG. 10 to create a lounge chair. When used for a lounge chair, unfolded cushion 26 has a person support length defined by all three cushion portions 28, 30, 33 that is greater than a person support length of cushion 26 defined by first and second portions 28, 30 when cushion 26 is folded and used as a chair. The various components may be reconfigured between the configurations discussed herein as desired.

As shown in FIG. 6, each armrest 32 of frame 24 of chair 10 includes an L-shaped slot 34. Tabletop 16 includes a pair of opposed studs 35 sized to be receive in L-shaped slots 34 when tabletop 16 is positioned on chair 10 as shown in FIG. 2. During assembly, studs 35 are aligned with the tops of L-shaped slots 34, slid down L-shaped slots 34, and then forward in L-shaped slots 34. Tabletop 16 has a closed end 36 as shown in FIG. 8 and an opposite open end 38 positioned adjacent to studs 35. Open end 38 receives arms 32 during assembly. Base 14 of table 12 includes four straight slots 40 (two shown in FIG. 7 and two opposite those shown in FIG. 7) to receive studs 35 when tabletop 16 is positioned on base 14.

Those having ordinary skill in the art will recognize that numerous modifications can be made to the specific implementations described above. The implementations should not be limited to the limitations described. Other implementations may be possible.

Claims

1. A set of furniture comprising

a chair having a frame and a cushion,

a table having a base and tabletop,

the set of furniture having a first state with the tabletop supported by the base to form a table, and

the set of furniture having a second state with the tabletop supported by the chair to form a desk.

2. The set of furniture of claim 1, wherein the base is supported by the chair and the tabletop is supported by the base when the set of furniture is in the second state.

3. The set of furniture of claim 1, wherein the tabletop is positioned vertically adjacent to the chair when the set of furniture is in the second state.

4. The set of furniture of claim 1, wherein at least one of the chair and table includes at least one slot and at least one of the table and chair includes at least one stud positioned in the at least one slot when the set of furniture is in the second state and spaced apart from the at least one slot with the set of furniture is in the first state.

5. The set of furniture of claim 4, wherein the chair includes the at least one slot and the table includes the at least one stud.

6. The set of furniture of claim 1, wherein the chair includes a base, a pair of armrests supported by the base, and a pair of armrest cushions, the pair of armrests cushions cover the pair of armrests by a first amount when the set of furniture is the first state, and the pair of armrests cover the armrest by a second amount when the set of furniture is in the second state.

7. The set of furniture of claim 6, wherein the second amount is zero.

8. A method of arranging a set of furniture comprising the steps of

providing a chair and table, the table having a tabletop and base,

positioning the table away from the chair, and

supporting the tabletop on the chair to create a desk.

9. The method of claim 5, wherein the chair includes a base and a pair of armrests supported by the base and the tabletop is supported by the pair of armrests.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein the base of the table is supported by the pair of armrests.

11. The method of claim 5, wherein the base of the table is spaced apart from the chair during the supporting step.

12. The method of claim 5, wherein the base of the table is positioned between the tabletop and chair during the supporting step.

13. The method of claim 5, wherein chair includes at least one slot and the table includes at least one stud, the at least one stud is positioned in the at least one slot during the supporting step and the at least one stud is spaced apart from the at least one slot after the positioning step.

14. A method of arranging a chair comprising the steps of

providing a chair having a frame and a cushion, the cushion including a first portion configured to support the back of a person, a second portion configured to support the posterior of a person, and a third portion foldable under the seat portion,

positioning the cushion on the frame with the first portion positioned to support a back of a person, the second portion positioned to support to support a posterior of a person, and the third portion folded under the second portion to create a first person support length defined by the first and second portions of the cushion, and

unfolding the cushion to create a second person support length defined by the first, second, and third portions of the cushion, the second person support length being greater than the first person support length.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising the steps of

removing the cushion from the frame and

placing the cushion on a floor to be used as a mat.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein the providing step further includes providing a table, further comprising the steps of placing the third portion of the cushion on the table.
