MULTI-TIER POINT-OF-SALE DISPLAY FOR EYEWEAR AND OTHER PRODUCTS
A point-of-sale display includes a back plate and one or more tiers. The one or more tiers are rotationally arranged in layers over the back plate. Each tier includes a disc rotationally coupled to the back plate. The disc having an inner central portion and an outer circumferential portion extending radially outward from the central portion. A plurality of support structures are positioned along the circumferential portion of the disc and extending radially outward therefrom. Each support structure is configured to releasably support a product disposed thereon for display.

TECHNICAL FIELDThe present disclosure relates to point of sale (POS) displays. More specifically, the disclosure relates to POS displays having one or more tiers rotationally arranged in layers over a back plate.
BACKGROUNDPoint of sale displays promote products through interesting visual displays and/or messaging. POS displays for products may include shelving, bins, racks or other structures designed to showcase a product for sale. In the particular case of eyewear, POS displays are often vertically oriented displays that may rotate and are designed to hold the eyewear for a potential purchaser to view.
Problematically, such POS displays often have a limited space, or footprint, in which to display the product being promoted. Additionally, such POS displays have limited maneuverability and expansion capabilities.
Accordingly, there is a need for a POS display that can hold a large number of product in a small area. Additionally, there is a need for a POS display that can expand the number of products it displays without unduly expanding its footprint. Further there is a need for point of sale displays that can maneuver a product into a variety of positions for a potential purchaser to view.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTIONThe present disclosure offers advantages and alternatives over the prior art by providing a POS display having one or more tiers rotationally arranged in layers over a back plate. Each tier includes a disc with holding structures positioned along a circumferential portion of the disc. The tiers are arranged in layers disposed over the back plate. The POS display may be easily expanded by adding additional tiers without significantly increasing the size of the POS display's footprint. Further the POS display may be mounted on a supporting beam and base, which allow the POS display to be maneuvered in a variety of different positions. The support structures may be designed to hold many different products, which may extend radially outward from the circumferential portion of the discs.
A point of sale (POS) display in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure includes a back plate and one or more tiers. The one or more tiers are rotationally arranged in layers over the back plate. Each tier includes a disc rotationally coupled to the back plate. The disc has an inner central portion and an outer circumferential portion extending radially outward from the central portion. A plurality of support structures are positioned along the circumferential portion of the disc and extend radially outward therefrom. Each support structure is configured to releasably support a product disposed thereon for display.
Another point of sale display in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure includes a back plate and one or more tiers. The one or more tiers are rotationally arranged in layers over the back plate. Each tier includes a disc rotationally coupled to the back plate. The disc has an inner central portion and an outer circumferential portion extending radially outward from the central portion. A plurality of support structures are positioned along the circumferential portion of the disc and extend radially outward therefrom. Each support structure is configured to releasably support a product disposed thereon for display. Each support structure includes a flat blade and a disc magnet. The flat blade has a stem portion and a body portion, wherein the stem portion is configured to fit into a stem slot disposed in the circumferential portion of the discs. The disc magnet is disposed on the circumferential portion of the discs adjacent the stem slot.
It should be appreciated that all combinations of the foregoing concepts and additional concepts discussed in greater detail below (provided such concepts are not mutually inconsistent) are contemplated as being part of the inventive subject matter disclosed herein and may be used to achieve the benefits and advantages described herein.

The POS display 100 includes a back plate 104 and one or more tiers 106A, 106B and 106C. The tiers 106A-C are rotationally arranged in layers over the back plate 104. In other words, the tiers 106A-C are positioned one on top of each other as layers, wherein the bottom tier 106A forms the bottom layer, which is adjacent to the back plate 104, and the top tier 106C forms the top layer.
Though three tiers 106A-C are illustrated herein, there may be any number of tiers disposed over the back plate 104. For example, there may be one tier, two tiers, five tiers or more disposed as layers over the back plate 104.

The POS display 100 also may include a support beam 116 and a base 118. The support beam 118 may be pivotally attached to the back plate 104 at a first end 120 of the beam 116 and pivotally attached to the base 118 at a s second end 122 of the beam 116, such that the beam 116 and base 118 enable a position of the back plate 104 to be adjustable for better viewing of the product 102 to be displayed. More specifically, the pivotal connections of the beam 116 to the back plate 104 and base 118 enable the back plate 104 and its layered tiers 106A-C to be tilted or adjusted vertically relative to the base 118. Moreover, the connection at the second end 122 of the beam 116 may be a swivel connection to enable the back plate 104 and tiers 106A-C to swivel or rotate relative to the base 118.
The POS display 100 may also include a circular hub 124 that is configured to fit over the central portion 110 of the disc 108 on the top tier 106C of the one or more tiers 106A-C. As will be explained in greater detail herein, the hub 124 may include one or more pairs of mounting holes 126A, 126B and 128A, 128B, which may be configured to support distal ends 158 of a pair of temples 156 of eyewear 154 (see

Each tier 106A-C includes a plurality of support structures 114 that are positioned along the circumferential portion 112 of each disc 108. The support structures 114 extend radially outward from the circumferential portion 112. Each support structure 114 is configured to releasably support the product 102 disposed thereon for display.

Though the support structures 114 illustrated herein include a disc magnet 114B inserted into a magnet mounting hole 148 in the circumferential portion 112 of the discs 108 and also include a flat blade 114A inserted into a stem slot 146 in the circumferential portion 112 of the discs 108, there can be any number of configurations of support structures used to support any number of products for display. For example, the support structure 114 may include posts, metal loops, hooks, magnets, flat blades, any of a variety of clips or any combination thereof.
Additionally, by way of example, the product may be pens or other writing utensils, markers, eyewear in their holding cases, or the like.

As illustrated, the outer diameter D4 of the back plate 104 is larger than any of the diameters D1-D3 of the tiers 106A-C. However, the diameter D4 of the back plate 104 may be smaller than the outer diameters D1-D3 of the tiers 106A-C, because the diameter D4 of the back plate 104 will not interfere with the view of the products 102 on display.
The inner central portions 110 of each disc 108 is rotationally mounted substantially parallel to the back plate 104. However, the circumferential portion 112 of each disc 108 extends at an acute angle 132 relative to the back plate 104 to better display the product 102.
The POS display 100 may also include a fastener 134 having a cylindrically shaped fastener body 136. The fastener 134 is affixed to the back plate 104 and the fastener body 136 extends through the back plate 104. The fastener body 136 is configured to extend centrally through each disc 108 of each tier 106A-C, such that each tier 106A-C rotates about the fastener body 136.

The POS display 100 is very versatile and provides a number of advantages over that of other POS displays. For example, some of the advantages provided by various embodiments of the POS display 100 include:

- Compact, small footprint, advantageous to be used on tight counter or table top spaces.
- Swivel base allows easy demonstration of products.
- Multiple adjustable hinges allow flexible adjustments to the height and angles of presentation.
- Light overall weight, for example, less than 5 pounds, wherein most of the weight is on the base to provide stability.
- The POS display 100 holds a large number of temple covers or other products for display.
- The POS display 100 is easily scalable, by adding rotating disks to hold more temple covers or other products.
- Minimal weight is added when scaling the POS display 100.
- The POS display 100 may be fitted with motors to enable self-rotation abilities to the disks.
- The POS display 100 may include batteries or a power source connected to the disc to light up the disk circumference for additional effects.
- The POS display 100 may include a charging feature for electronic accessories included in the charging temple covers or other products (such as, for example, a flashlight).
- The POS display 100 may include batteries or a power source connected to the center hub to light up the center hub for additional effects.
- The POS display 100 can hold multiple eyewear at the center hub to show complete frame products.
- Instead of eyewear, the center hub 124 can be used to display other complementary products.
- The center hub may also function as a push button to interact with customers with sound, messages, music or the like.
- The POS display 100 may be expanded with the addition of one or more tiers/discs to the bottom layers of the POS display, wherein each added disc has an outer diameter that is larger than the discs positioned above it. Accordingly, the additional discs greatly add to the product display capacity of the POS display with minimal increase to its footprint.
It should be appreciated that all combinations of the foregoing concepts and additional concepts discussed in greater detail herein (provided such concepts are not mutually inconsistent) are contemplated as being part of the inventive subject matter disclosed herein. In particular, all combinations of claimed subject matter appearing at the end of this disclosure are contemplated as being part of the inventive subject matter disclosed herein.
Although the invention has been described by reference to specific examples, it should be understood that numerous changes may be made within the spirit and scope of the inventive concepts described. Accordingly, it is intended that the disclosure not be limited to the described examples, but that it has the full scope defined by the language of the following claims.
Claims
1. A point-of-sale (POS) display, comprising:
- a back plate;
- one or more tiers, rotationally arranged in layers over the back plate, wherein each tier comprise: a disc rotationally coupled to the back plate, the disc having an inner central portion and an outer circumferential portion extending radially outward from the central portion, and a plurality of support structures positioned along the circumferential portion of the disc and extending radially outward therefrom, each support structure configured to releasably support a product disposed thereon for display.
2. The POS display of claim 1, comprising:
- a fastener having a cylindrically shaped fastener body, wherein the fastener is affixed to the back plate and the fastener body extends through the back plate; and
- wherein the fastener body is configured to extend centrally through each disc of each tier, such that each tier rotates about the fastener body.
3. The POS display of claim 1, wherein the fastener is as screw and the fastener body is a threaded shank.
4. The POS display of claim 2, comprising:
- a bearing disposed in a center hole positioned in the central portion of each disc;
- wherein each bearing of each disc is disposed on the fastener body; and
- wherein the bearings space each tier apart and are configured to enable each tier to rotate substantially freely about the fastener body.
5. The POS display of claim 1, comprising:
- a support beam having a first end and a second end;
- a base;
- wherein the support beam is pivotally attached to the back plate at the beam's first end and pivotally attached to the base at the beam's second end, such that the beam and base enable a position of the back plate to be adjustable for better viewing of the product to be displayed.
6. The POS display of claim 1, wherein:
- each disc of the one or more tiers has an outer diameter; and
- the outer diameter of any one disc is larger than the outer diameter of the discs positioned in the tiers above the any one disc.
7. The POS display of claim 1, wherein:
- the inner central portion of each disc is substantially parallel to the back plate; and
- the circumferential portion of each disc extends at an acute angle relative to the back plate.
8. The POS display of claim 1, wherein each support structure of the plurality of support structures disposed on each disc comprises one of, a flat blade, a post, a loop, a hook, a magnet, a clip, a hole or any combination thereof.
9. The POS display of claim 1, wherein each support structure comprises:
- a flat blade having a stem portion and a body portion, wherein the stem portion is configured to fit into a stem slot disposed in the circumferential portion of the discs; and
- a disc magnet disposed on the circumferential portion of the discs adjacent the stem slot;
- wherein the product to be displayed comprises a temple cover for eyewear, the temple cover having a mounting groove and a magnetic or metal insert configured to mount the temple cover on a temple of the eyewear,
- wherein the body portion of the blade is configured to fit into the mounting groove of the temple cover and the disc magnet is configured to magnetically latch to the magnetic or metal insert of the temple cover to display the temple cover on the POS display.
10. The POS display of claim 1, comprising:
- a circular hub configured to fit over the central portion of the disc on a top tier of the one or more tiers;
- the hub comprising one or more pairs of mounting holes configured to support distal ends of a pair of temples of eyewear, so that the eyewear can be displayed on the POS display.
11. The POS display of claim 10, wherein the hub is designed to look like the center of a sunflower.
12. The POS display of claim 1, comprising:
- an additional tier, separate from the one or more tiers, the additional tier including a disc having an outer diameter that is larger than an outer diameter of any disc of the one or more tiers; and
- wherein the additional tier is configured to be rotationally arranged below the one or more tiers on the POS display, in order to expand a product display capacity of the POS display.
13. A point-of-sale (POS) display, comprising:
- a back plate;
- one or more tiers, rotationally arranged in layers over the back plate, wherein each tier comprise: a disc rotationally coupled to the back plate, the disc having an inner central portion and an outer circumferential portion extending radially outward from the central portion, and a plurality of support structures positioned along the circumferential portion of the disc and extending radially outward therefrom, each support structure configured to releasably support a product disposed thereon for display, wherein each support structure comprises: a flat blade having a stem portion and a body portion, wherein the stem portion is configured to fit into a stem slot disposed in the circumferential portion of the discs, and a disc magnet disposed on the circumferential portion of the discs adjacent the stem slot.
14. The POS display of claim 13, wherein:
- the product to be displayed comprises a temple cover for eyewear, the temple cover having a mounting groove and a magnetic or metal insert configured to mount the temple cover on a temple of the eyewear; and
- the body portion of the blade is configured to fit into the mounting groove of the temple cover and the disc magnet is configured to magnetically latch to the magnetic or metal insert of the temple cover to display the temple cover on the POS display.
15. The POS display of claim 13, comprising:
- a fastener having a cylindrically shaped fastener body, wherein the fastener is affixed to the back plate and the fastener body extends through the back plate, wherein the fastener body is configured to extend centrally through each disc of each tier, such that each tier rotates about the fastener body;
- a bearing disposed in a center hole positioned in the central portion of each disc, wherein each bearing of each disc is disposed on the fastener body; and
- wherein the bearings space each tier apart and are configured to enable each tier to rotate substantially freely about the fastener body.
16. The POS display of claim 13, wherein:
- each disc of the one or more tiers has an outer diameter; and
- the outer diameter of any one disc is larger than the outer diameter of the discs positioned in the tiers above the any one disc.
17. The POS display of claim 13, wherein:
- the inner central portion of each disc is substantially parallel to the back plate; and
- the circumferential portion of each disc extends at an acute angle relative to the back plate.
18. The POS display of claim 13, comprising:
- a support beam having a first end and a second end;
- a base;
- wherein the support beam is pivotally attached to the back plate at the beam's first end and pivotally attached to the base at the beam's second end, such that the beam and base enable a position of the back plate to be adjustable for better viewing of the product to be displayed.
19. The POS display of claim 13, comprising:
- a circular hub configured to fit over the central portion of the disc on a top tier of the one or more tiers;
- the hub comprising one or more pairs of mounting holes configured to support distal ends of a pair of temples of eyewear, so that the eyewear can be displayed on the POS display.
20. The POS display of claim 13, comprising:
- an additional tier, separate from the one or more tiers, the additional tier including a disc having an outer diameter that is larger than an outer diameter of any disc of the one or more tiers; and
- wherein the additional tier is configured to be rotationally arranged below the one or more tiers on the POS display, in order to expand a product display capacity of the POS display.
