BATH SPLASH GUARD
A bath splash guard includes a shelf configured to rest on the upper ledge of a bathtub. The bath splash guard also includes a group of suction cups positioned along an underside of the shelf. The suction cups secure the shelf to a ledge of the bathtub. The bath splash guard further includes a rear wall extending upward from the shelf, a pair of side walls extending from the shelf to the rear wall, and a splash lip extending downward from a front edge of the shelf.

TECHNICAL FIELDAspects of the present disclosure generally relate to a bath splash guard, and more specifically to a bath splash guard that attaches to a bathtub ledge.
DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED TECHNOLOGYBath splash guards are practical bathroom accessories designed to prevent water from escaping the bathtub or shower area during use. These splash guards are particularly useful in homes with children, individuals with limited mobility, or anyone who prefers an efficient and clean bathing environment. Additionally, these splash guards are typically used to contain water within the bathtub or shower, minimizing water damage to floors and walls, and reducing the risk of slips and falls.
SUMMARYVarious aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a bath splash guard designed to prevent water from escaping the bathtub during bathing. The splash guard includes a shelf configured to rest securely on the upper ledge of a bathtub, supported by a group of suction cups attached to the underside of the shelf. These suction cups allow for a secure and stable installation across a variety of bathtub ledge geometries.
A rear wall extends upward from the rear edge of the shelf and functions as a vertical barrier to contain splashing water within the tub. A pair of side walls extend from opposite ends of the shelf to meet the rear wall, forming lateral boundaries that help prevent water from escaping out the sides. A splash lip projects downward from the front edge of the shelf and into the bathtub interior. This lip is configured to direct water runoff back into the tub and prevent water from dripping beneath the splash guard.

Bath splash guards are practical bathroom accessories designed to prevent water from escaping the bathtub or shower area during use. They are particularly beneficial in homes with children, individuals with limited mobility, or anyone seeking an efficient and clean bathing environment. These guards help contain water within the bathtub or shower, minimizing water damage to floors and walls while reducing the risk of slips and falls. By keeping bathroom floors dry, splash guards not only enhance safety but also help maintain a hygienic space by preventing the spread of soapy or dirty water. They offer convenience by reducing the need for frequent cleanup after baths, making them especially appealing to parents and caregivers.
Splash guards come in various types to suit different needs. Fixed splash guards, often made of glass or acrylic, are installed on the edges of bathtubs or showers and are semi-permanent fixtures commonly used in modern bathrooms. Flexible or adjustable splash guards, made from materials like silicone, rubber, or plastic, are portable and easily attachable using suction cups or adhesive strips. Custom-molded guards, designed to fit specific bathtub dimensions, provide a snug fit using flexible, durable materials.
Various aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a bath splash guard configured to prevent water from escaping the bathtub during bathing activities, particularly during child bath time, where active movement and toy play often result in excessive water splashing. The splash guard may improve safety by minimizing the accumulation of water on the bathroom floor, thereby reducing the risk of slips and falls. In some examples, the bath splash guard includes an integrated splash wall that extends vertically from a rear of the splash guard to contain water within the tub, a splash lip that projects downward from the front edge into the interior of the bathtub to capture and redirect runoff, and a pair of opposing sidewalls that prevent water from exiting laterally. Together, these features define a containment zone that channels water back into the tub. The upper surface of the splash guard may be slightly inclined, for example, at an angle of approximately 2 degrees, toward the tub interior to direct water away from the outer edge and into the bathing area.
The splash guard may also include a group of suction cups mounted to the underside of a base. The suction cups may be positioned in an offset or staggered pattern to accommodate different bathtub ledge geometries, including flat, curved, or slightly angled surfaces. In some examples, six suction cups may be used to improve overall stability and reduce the risk of dislodgement during use. The suction cups may be located along both the inner and outer portions of the device's footprint to balance retention forces and prevent rocking or tipping. The staggered pattern also offers stability that would not be achieved if the suction cups were aligned in a straight line. Suction cups arranged in a linear configuration may define an axis of rotation, which could make the surface more prone to instability. The offset placement helps to mitigate this by distributing retention forces more effectively across multiple points of contact. In some examples, the suction cups mounted to the underside of the base as closer to the back wall than the front ledge.
Conventional splash guards are often made of rigid plastic or acrylic and designed to cantilever outward from the outer edge of the bathtub. Such conventional splash guards may be suspended outwardly over the floor side of the tub. However, these conventional splash guards are not well suited for use with soft, flexible materials such as silicone. When such materials are used in a conventional outward-cantilever configuration, the unsupported load can cause the device to sag or collapse under its own weight, leading to poor sealing, ineffective splash prevention, and potential detachment from the tub wall. Additionally, when these products cantilever outside of the tub, they interfere with the caregiver's ability to position themselves close to the tub edge. This increased separation requires the caregiver to reach farther to assist the child, which can be uncomfortable, reduce control, and increase physical strain during bath time.
In accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, the splash guard may extend inward, into the tub basin itself. In such aspects, the splash guard may be constructed from a durable, waterproof silicone material, such as material formed via compression molding or liquid silicone injection molding (LSI), and may be shaped so that its center of mass is biased toward the interior tub wall. By allowing the front drip edge and associated components to extend into the tub rather than over the bathroom floor, aspects of the present disclosure avoid structural instability while improving splash containment. Additionally, silicone provides a non-rigid, soft-touch surface that is safer for children and more comfortable for caregivers, while also being mold-resistant, easy to clean, and inherently non-slip.
Although various examples described herein refer to the use of silicone as a material for the splash guard, aspects of the present disclosure are not limited to silicone. Other materials that offer comparable flexibility, water resistance, and durability may also be used. For instance, thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) may be used instead of silicone, as TPE and TPU may provide similar performance characteristics, including softness to the touch, moldability, and resistance to mold and mildew. These materials may be selected based on manufacturing preferences, user comfort, or compatibility with specific bathtub surfaces. The choice of material may be tailored to accommodate various use cases without departing from the scope of various aspects of the present disclosure.
The inwardly oriented design of the present splash guard not only addresses structural limitations of conventional outward-cantilevered configurations but also enables functional enhancements that are not feasible with rigid materials or exterior-mounted devices. In some implementations, the slightly inclined upper surface of the splash guard may serve a dual purpose, functioning both as a water-directing surface and as a play platform where children can interact with bath toys within easy reach. When the splash wall is folded down into its horizontal position, it may provide a cushioned and ergonomically supportive elbow rest for caregivers, enhancing comfort during extended bath times.
Moreover, the splash wall is formed from a soft, deformable silicone material that maintains its structural integrity while remaining flexible to the touch. This deformability allows the caregiver to quickly fold down or press through the splash wall to gain immediate access to the child in the event of an emergency or sudden need for assistance. Such responsiveness is not possible with rigid, permanently fixed splash guards. Taken together, the inward-facing cantilever configuration, the stabilizing suction cup layout, and the use of high-performance silicone materials represent a meaningful advancement over existing splash guard products. These features, particularly within the category of flexible or silicone-based bath accessories, provide improved water containment, enhanced caregiver comfort, increased child accessibility, and overall safer and more user-friendly bath time experiences.

The upper surface of the splash guard may be referred to as the shelf 106, which forms a horizontal surface between the rear wall 102 and the front lip 104. The shelf 106 may be inclined to direct water back to the bathtub. This shelf 106 may serve multiple purposes. For example, the shelf 106 provides a platform for water to drain back into the tub, and it can also serve as a play surface or staging area for bath toys, toiletries, or other accessories.
The splash guard further includes a pair of sidewalls 108, one at each lateral end. Each sidewall 108 may be orthogonal to the rear wall 102. These sidewalls extend vertically from the ends of the shelf 106 and are connected to the rear wall 102. For example, a curved connection may be defined between respective sidewalls 108 and the rear wall 102. The sidewalls 108 may prevent water from splashing laterally from within the tub, thereby creating a three-sided barrier that channels water away from the bathroom floor and back into the tub.
Together, the wall 102, lip 104, shelf 106, and sidewalls 108 define a containment structure specified to manage water flow and improve safety and cleanliness during bath time. In some examples, the components of the splash guard may be integrally formed from a flexible, waterproof material such as silicone, allowing for ease of cleaning, durability, and adaptability to various tub geometries.
This lateral extension of the shelf 106 beyond the sidewalls 108 serves a functional purpose. By projecting past the sidewalls 108, the shelf 106 creates an overhang that increases the effective water catchment area, ensuring that water splashing toward the sides is still collected and redirected back into the bathtub. The overhang also allows for additional usable surface area along the top of the splash guard for staging toys, soap, or other bath items. This overhang may further assist with securing the splash guard to a wider range of tub ledge geometries by allowing more flexibility in positioning the suction cups or other stabilizing elements underneath the shelf.

This height ensures that the wall 102 acts as an effective barrier against splashing water, while maintaining an ergonomic height for use as an elbow rest when the guard is installed.

Aspects of the present disclosure may be adapted to accommodate different bathtub sizes, ledge widths, and regional design standards. For example, shorter or longer versions of the splash guard may be manufactured for compact or oversized tubs. Similarly, the height and depth may be varied to optimize splash containment, storage functionality, or ergonomic comfort depending on user preferences and specific use-case scenarios. Accordingly, the splash guard 100 may be scaled or proportionally adjusted while still remaining within the spirit and scope of the various aspects described herein. For example, in some other aspects, the splash guard 100 may have a length of approximately 28 inches, a depth of approximately 5 inches in alignment with the average width of standard bathtub ledges, and a height of approximately 3.75 inches along the rear wall to provide effective water containment. Additionally, the front-facing splash lip may extend approximately 1 inch downward into the interior of the tub.
Extending from the front edge of the inclined shelf 106 is a lip 104, which projects downward into the bathtub. This lip 104 is positioned beyond an inner plane 210 of the bath ledge 202 and functions as a drip edge. The inner plane 210 refers to a vertical plane corresponding to an interior-facing edge of the bath ledge 202 and defines the boundary between the inside of the bathtub and the ledge 202. Because the lip 104 extends inward past this inner plane 210 and into the bathtub basin, any water that reaches the front edge of the splash guard 100 is redirected downward into the tub. By projecting beyond this vertical boundary, the lip 104 ensures that water 204 is retained within the functional footprint of the bathtub, thereby preventing leakage or spillage onto the bathroom floor. Together with the rear wall 102, the inclined shelf 106, and the vertical sidewalls 108, the lip 104 helps to contain water within the bathing area, improving cleanliness and reducing the risk of slip hazards.
In some embodiments, the base 200 of the splash guard 100 may be formed with a tapered cross-sectional profile, such that the thickness near a front distal end (closest to the lip 104) is thinner than the thickness near a rear distal end (closer to the wall 102). This tapered configuration may provide structural efficiency, material savings, and improved flexibility in areas that require greater conformity to the tub ledge. In certain implementations, the thickness of this base section may range from approximately 5 mm to 8 mm, and in more refined examples, from 5.5 mm to 7 mm. In other embodiments, the base may be formed with a uniform thickness throughout, which may be desirable for certain molding processes or aesthetic consistency. These dimensional variations may be selected based on material properties, structural performance, or user comfort.

This segmented sidewall design enhances both the structural stability of the deployed splash guard and the collapsibility of the system when not in use. The groove 412 may be defined by a sewn seam, molded crease, or embedded hinge feature that permits repeated folding and unfolding without damaging the material. Aspects of the present disclosure are not limited to triangular shapes or two-part constructions; other folding geometries and hinge designs are also contemplated to support various use cases.
Additionally, an opposing rear flap 506 may be hingedly attached to a rear edge of the shelf 504. The rear flap 506 may rest along an exterior wall of the bathtub. This rear flap 506 may serve as a resting or stabilizing surface, and may include one or more suction cups for attaching to the exterior wall. The splash wall 502 may be hingedly connected to either the shelf 504 or rear flap 506, allowing the entire assembly to fold flat for compact storage or alternate use modes.
In some examples, one or more straps 510 may extend from the rear flap 506 are a pair of straps 510, which are shown connected to a floor mat 508. These straps 510 may be made from elastic, adjustable, or fixed-length materials and are designed to couple the splash guard 500 to the floor mat 508. The floor mat 508 is configured to rest on the bathroom floor adjacent to the bathtub and provides a cushioned, non-slip surface on which a caregiver may kneel or stand. This ergonomic feature improves caregiver comfort during extended bath time sessions.
The straps 510 may ensure that the floor mat 508 remains properly aligned with the splash guard 500, while also providing structural support by counterbalancing forward or downward forces applied to the splash guard during use. This integrated strap-and-mat system helps to stabilize the splash guard 500 against movement or tipping, especially when weight or pressure is applied to the splash wall or shelf. Although a single mat and pair of straps are shown, alternate configurations, such as detachable fasteners, magnetic connectors, or multi-point anchors, may be implemented without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.
In some examples, the shelf 504 of the splash guard 500 may include an elevated ridge 512 extending along one or more lateral edges. This ridge 512 serves as a water-containment feature, helping to prevent water from spilling over the sides of the shelf during use. In some examples, the elevated ridge 512 may functionally substitute for conventional vertically extending sidewalls. By forming a raised boundary around the periphery of the shelf surface, the ridge 512 provides lateral containment while maintaining a low-profile appearance and potentially simplifying manufacturing. The ridge 512 may be integrally molded with the shelf 504 or affixed as a separate sealing or structural component. In some examples, the ridge 512 may also assist in retaining bath items on the surface of the shelf, reducing the likelihood of rolling or slipping.

One or more suction cups 514 may be attached to an underside of the shelf 554 and/or an inner side of the rear flap 556. These suction cups 514 attach the splash guard 550 to the tub and allow the splash guard 550 to conform to a variety of tub geometries. A side wall 516 is positioned along the end of the splash wall 552 and helps define the perimeter of the splash guard while also improving lateral splash containment. In some examples, the side wall 516 may be a strap that attaches the wall 552 to the shelf 554. Additionally, or alternatively, the side wall 516 may include flexible or hinged segments that facilitate folding.
A perforated front storage compartment 556 may hang from the shelf 554. This compartment 556 may rest against the interior surface of the tub wall and may hold bath toys, rinsing accessories, or other wet items. The perforations allow for drainage, keeping the contents dry between uses.
A rear flap 556 may be positioned at a second distal end of the shelf 554. The second distal end is opposite a first distal end that is attached to the splash wall 552. This rear flap 556 may drape over or rest along an exterior wall 518 of the bathtub. The rear flap 556 may include padding and may be used as an elbow rest when the splash wall is folded flat. The rear flap 556 may also include a storage unit for storing items. The storage unit may be an example of a dry storage unit. In some examples, the rear flap 556 may be coupled to a floor mat 558 using a pair of straps 560. The floor mat 558 rests on the bathroom floor next to the bathtub and provides a cushioned, non-slip surface for a caregiver to kneel or stand on.
The straps 560 may be elastic, adjustable, or fixed in length and help retain the floor mat 558 in position while also providing counterbalance to the splash guard. This configuration improves the overall stability of the splash guard and improves comfort during bath time.
When the straps 602 are fastened to the flap 608, the splash guard wall 604 is held in a substantially vertical orientation. This allows the wall to remain upright during use, forming a barrier to contain water within the tub. The ability to fasten and unfasten the straps 602 provides the user with selective control over the splashguard configuration, offering versatility for different bathing scenarios. For example, unfastening the straps 602 allows the splash guard wall 604 to be folded down, where it may function as an elbow rest or permit unobstructed access to a child in the bathtub.
The splash guard 600 may also include a storage compartment 612, which may be located on the rear flap 608 and used to store dry items, such as caregiver belongings. A series of suction cups 614 may be located on the bottom surface of the splash guard 600 may secure the splash guard 600 to the bathtub surface, improving stability and allowing the splash guard 600 to conform to various tub geometries. Additionally, or alternatively, one or more suction cups 614 may be positioned along the front flap 610 and/or the rear flap 608.
When the splash guard wall 702 is in the vertical position, the support wall 720 is positioned perpendicular to the splash guard wall 702 and is placed between the splash guard wall 702 and the adjacent shelf 704, which serves as a play or utility surface. In some implementations, the support wall 720 is configured to slide into a designated slot or recess formed within or near the shelf 704. This inserted configuration allows the support wall 702 to resist rearward pivoting or collapse, thereby maintaining the vertical posture of the splash guard wall 702.
To retract or fold the splash guard wall 702, the support wall 720 may be removed from the slot and rotated downward to lie substantially in the same plane as the splash guard wall. This allows the splash guard wall 702 to pivot forward and lie flat along the shelf 704, which may then function as an elbow rest or tray. This two-position support system provides an intuitive and secure method for toggling between upright and collapsed configurations, improving both functionality and caregiver access.
The splash guard also includes a front flap 706 and a rear flap 708, which may extend respectively over the interior and exterior bathtub walls to provide further splash containment and mechanical support. A ridge 712 is shown extending along a portion of the shelf 704, which may act as a water-retention barrier or lateral stabilizer for bath items.
Although illustrated with a single support wall 720, aspects of the present disclosure are not limited to a single support member. In some examples, two or more support walls may be used, each independently or cooperatively retaining the splash guard wall 702 in an upright configuration. This redundancy may enhance structural stability and reduce the likelihood of unintentional collapse during bath time. Other support geometries, pivot types, or locking mechanisms may also be used without departing from the scope of the disclosure.
A series of suction cups 718 may be located on the bottom surface of the shelf 704 may secure the splash guard 700 to the bathtub surface, improving stability and allowing the splash guard to conform to various tub geometries. Additionally, or alternatively, one or more suction cups 718 may be positioned along the front flap 706 and/or the rear flap 708.
As discussed, various aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a splash guard, such as a compression-molded splash guard device, configured to rest on the upper edge of a bathtub and secure to one or more walls of the bathtub and/or a ledge of the bathtub via suction cups. The splash guard addresses the common issue of water splashing over the edges of the bathtub when children play, move, or interact with toys during bath time. This splashing can result in a wet and slippery floor, creating a safety hazard and an inconvenience due to the mess. The splash guard provides an effective solution by containing water within the bathtub, minimizing the risk of slips and falls while maintaining a cleaner bathroom environment.
The splash guard may adapt to various bathtub geometries, ensuring a secure and stable fit. Beyond its primary function of water containment, the splash guard incorporates additional features to enhance the bathing experience. For instance, the splash guard includes a shelf that can serve as a storage space for bath toys, keeping them organized and easily accessible to children during bath time. This dual functionality not only adds convenience but also encourages interactive and enjoyable play for children.
The splash guard also includes a ledge and a splash guard wall, which exposes a play area on the ledge when the wall is in an upright position. In some examples, the splash guard wall may be pivotably coupled to the ledge at its bottom end, allowing it to transition between upright and folded positions. In the folded-down position, the splash guard wall acts as an elbow rest for caregivers, providing a comfortable surface to lean on while attending to the child.
Additionally, in some examples, the splash guard may include an inside flap positioned within the bathtub and an outside flap positioned outside the bathtub. The outside flap may include a dry storage pouch for caregivers to securely store personal items, such as cell phones, rings, or other small valuables. The inside flap may include a wet storage portion for holding bath toys and other wet items.
The dimensions of the splash guard may vary based on the design. In some examples, the splash guard wall is about 30″ wide, 5.5″ deep, 3.75″ tall. The depth refers to the measurement from the front ledge to the splash guard wall. Of course, other sizes are contemplated, such as about 20-40″ wide, 4-7″ deep, and 2-5″ tall, among other sizes. Aspects of the present disclosure are not limited to a specific size.
A method of using the bath splash guard includes placing the shelf of the splash guard onto the upper ledge of a bathtub so that the rear wall faces outward and the splash lip extends over the interior side of the tub. Once the shelf is positioned, the user presses downward on the shelf to engage the suction cups along the underside, securing the splash guard firmly to the ledge. The rear wall and side walls function to block water that might otherwise splash over the back and sides of the bathtub during use. The splash lip, which extends downward from the front edge of the shelf, hangs over the tub basin and serves to redirect water back into the bathtub, preventing it from dripping onto the floor.
During bathing, water that contacts the shelf is directed inward toward the tub due to the slight incline of the shelf surface. The user may also place bath toys or small items on the shelf, using it as a convenient play or storage area. After bath time, the user may release the suction cups by gently pulling up on the edges of the shelf to disengage the splash guard from the tub. The splash guard may then be rinsed, dried, and stored as needed. This method provides a simple and effective way to reduce water spillage, improve safety, and enhance the overall bathing experience.
As used herein, the term “determining” encompasses a wide variety of actions. As used herein, a phrase referring to “at least one of” a list of items refers to any combination of those items, including single members. As an example, “at least one of: a, b, or c” is intended to cover: a, b, c, a-b, a-c, b-c, and a-b-c.
The methods disclosed herein comprise one or more steps or actions for achieving the described method. The method steps and/or actions may be interchanged with one another without departing from the scope of the claims. In other words, unless a specific order of steps or actions is specified, the order and/or use of specific steps and/or actions may be modified without departing from the scope of the claims.
It is to be understood that the claims are not limited to the precise configuration and components illustrated above. Various modifications, changes, and variations may be made in the arrangement, operation, and details of the methods and apparatus described above without departing from the scope of the claims.
Claims
1. A bath splash guard, comprising:
- a shelf configured to rest on the upper ledge of a bathtub;
- a group of suction cups positioned along an underside of the shelf, the suction cups configured to secure the shelf to a ledge of the bathtub;
- a rear wall extending upward from the shelf;
- a pair of side walls extending from the shelf to the rear wall; and
- a splash lip extending downward from a front edge of the shelf.
2. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the shelf, the rear wall, the pair of side walls, and the splash lip are constructed from a silicone material.
3. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein a height of the rear wall is greater than a height of the splash lip.
4. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein each suction cup of the group of suction cups is offset from an adjacent suction cup.
5. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the shelf is at least 28 inches in length and 5 inches in depth, and the rear wall is at least 3.75 inches in height.
6. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the splash lip extends approximately 1 inch downward into the bathtub to direct water runoff.
7. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the shelf is inclined in relation to the ledge.
8. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the side walls and rear wall are integrally formed with the shelf to create a seamless, water-resistant structure.
9. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein an upper side of the shelf includes a textured or non-slip surface.
10. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the splash lip is positioned beyond an inner vertical plane of the bathtub ledge.
11. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the wall that is pivotally coupled to the shelf and movable between a vertical orientation and a horizontal orientation.
12. The bath splash guard of claim 11, further comprising a support wall flexibly attached to the wall and configured to engage with a slot on the shelf to retain the splash wall in the vertical orientation.
13. The bath splash guard of claim 1, wherein the wall is collapsible.
14. The bath splash guard of claim 1, further comprising a rear flap extending from a bottom edge of the wall and configured to rest on an exterior wall of the bathtub.
15. The bath splash guard of claim 14, further comprising one or more straps extending from the rear flap and coupled to a floor mat positioned on a floor adjacent to the bathtub.
16. The bath splash guard of claim 15, wherein the floor mat includes a cushioned, non-slip surface.
