The necklace comprises four main chains interconnected with each other such as to define, when said chains are arranged along straight lines, a quadrilateral such as a rectangle; a plurality of intermediate chains extend between opposite mainchains; the necklace can assume a plurality of different configurations in use: in one configuration the user's head is to be passed in the opening defined between the top main chain and the top intermediate chain; in other configurations the user's head is to be passed in the opening defined between two contiguous intermediate chains; in a still further configuration the top and bottom main chains are disposed close to one another to form a pair of adjacent main chains, and the user's head is to be passed through the opening defined between said pair of adjacent main chains and the top and bottom intermediate chains.
