Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is directed to a new and distinct variety of chrysanthemum botanically classified as Dendranthema grandiflora. The varietal denomination of the new chrysanthemum is `Yellow About Time`.

The new variety was discovered as a natural single branch mutation of the variety `Jewel Time` (unpatented). The new variety has been asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Ventura County, Calif. and the distinguishing characteristics are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

`Yellow About Time` is pot type chrysanthemum plant variety that produces bright yellow flowers with long, recurved outer ray florets.

COMPARISON WITH PARENT

Flowers of the new variety differ in color from its parent which produces creamy white flowers.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATION

The acompanying photograph shows a typical specimen of the new variety with colors being as nearly true as possible with illustrations of this type.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT

The following description of the new variety is of specimens grown in a greenhouse in Ventura County, Calif. in the month of April. `Yellow About Time` has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions, The phenotype may vary with variations in the environment such as temperature, light intensity, day length and cultural conditions. The color designations herein are from The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where general terms are used.

To produce a commercial product the plants may be pinched once about ten days after plating and a second time to remove center bud just as buds are developing. It has been observed that the shelf life of `Yellow About Time` is about 24 days with the response time of about 8 weeks. One treatment with growth regulator B9 at 2000 ppm is useful and was applied to the plants described herein. Desirable growing conditions include average night temperatures of about 18.degree.-20.degree. C., day temperatures of about 20.degree.-30.degree. C. and about 3,000-5,000 foot-candles of light. The new variety can be grown as a disbud or spray pot. The drawing shows the variety as a spray pot.
