Petunia plant named ‘Dancasbipas’

Abstract

A new and distinct Petunia plant named ‘Dancasbipas’ particularly characterized by its flower color: five white strips over pink background; very floriferous and very long blooming season; vigorous, cascading growth habit; good weather tolerance; and suitable for patios and outdoors bedding.

Variety denomination: ‘Dancasbipas’.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Petunia plant, botanically known as Petunia sensu Wijsman, hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name ‘Dancasbipas’.

The new cultivar originated from cross made in a controlled breeding program in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel. The female parent is a proprietary cultivar designated CV-52 (unpatented). The male parent is a proprietary cultivar designated CV-144 (unpatented). ‘Dancasbipas’ was discovered and selected by the inventor, Gabriel Danziger, as a flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in a controlled environment in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel.

Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar by cutting of side shoots, was first performed in February, 2003 in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel, and has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for the new cultivar are firmly fixed and retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction. The new cultivar reproduces true-to-type.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of ‘Dancasbipas’ which in combination distinguish this Petunia as a new and distinct cultivar:

• • 1. Flower color: five white stripes over pink background;
  • 2. Very floriferous and very long blooming season;
  • 3. Vigorous, cascading growth habit;
  • 4. Good weather tolerance; and
  • 5. Suitable for patios and outdoors bedding.

‘Dancasbipas’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype of the new cultivar may vary with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length without any change in the genotype of the plant. The following observations, measurements and values describe the new cultivar as grown in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel under conditions, which closely approximate those generally used in commercial practice.

Plants of ‘Dancasbipas’ differ from plants of the parental cultivars, ‘CV-52’ and ‘CV-144’ in the following characteristics:

Of the many commercial cultivars known to the present inventor, the most similar in comparison to ‘Dancasbipas’ is the cultivar ‘Cascadias Bicolor Lavender’ (unpatented).

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

The following observations, measurements and values describe the new cultivar as grown in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel under conditions which closely approximate those generally used in commercial practice. ‘Dancasbipas’ is for use as a pot plant and a bedding plant. Grown outdoors in moderate climate, indoors during winter. Irrigation and fertilization are needed on a regular basis. For optimal growth, grow in full sunlight ‘Dancasbipas’ plants are fully grown in 3 months. ‘Dancasbipas’ blooms year-round in moderate climate. Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart (R.H.S.) 2001 edition, except where general colors of ordinary significance are used. Color values were taken under daylight conditions at approximately noon in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel. The age of the plant described is 3 months.
