Description

Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum×morifolium.

Varietal denomination: ‘CIDZ0061’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum×morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIDZ0061’.

‘CIDZ0061’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has large, golden-bronze, decorative-type inflorescences with a red-bronze center, compact plant habit, excellent plant strength and uniformity, and a flowering response of 8 weeks when cultivated under short-day conditions.

‘CIDZ0061’ originated from a hybridization made in September 2007 in a greenhouse in Bogota, Columbia. The female parent was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated ‘B0858’, having pink, decorative-type flowers (inflorescences), a more vigorous growth habit, but smaller sized flowers when compared to ‘CIDZ0061’.

The male parent of ‘CIDZ0061’ was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated as ‘B1177’, with yellow, decorative-type inflorescences developing more disc florets than inflorescences of ‘CIDZ0061’.

The seed was sown in July 2008 and the resulting plants were grown in pots under a shade structure in Fort Myers, Fla. ‘CIDZ0061’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in December 2008.

The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIDZ0061’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in March 2009 in Fort Myers, Fla.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in August 2009, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIDZ0061’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.

‘CIDZ0061’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘CIDZ0061’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type. The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 a close-up of the inflorescences and in FIG. 2, a flowering plant of the new variety.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

The plant descriptions and measurements were taken indoors in Nipomo, Calif., on Aug. 14, 2014 on about 11 week old plants. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots on May 24, 2014. The plants were pinched and moved to short days on Jun. 16, 2014 to induce flowering.

The aforementioned photographs: FIGS. 1 and 2 were taken in Nipomo, Calif. in May 2013, and showing a plant from a trial, in which flowering had been induced by applying black cloth. These plants were about 11 weeks of age. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots. The terminal buds were removed leaving the lateral buds to mature, approximately 3 weeks prior to flowering.
