Description

Genus and species: Phlox drummondii.

Variety denomination: ‘KAZI15789’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of phlox, botanically known as Phlox drummondii and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KAZI15789’. ‘KAZI15789’ originated from a breeding program in Mijnsheerenland, Netherlands in summer 2008 between un-named and un-patented phlox plants. Seeds from the breeding program were obtained and plants were grown for evaluation.

A single plant was selected in June 2009 and subsequently named ‘KAZI15789’. In July 2009, ‘KAZI15789’ was first vegetatively propagated by stem cuttings in Mijnsheerenland, Netherlands and in August 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany. ‘KAZI15789’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation via stem cuttings in Mijnsheerenland, Netherlands and Stuttgart, Germany.

SUMMARY

The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.

    • 1. A compact, upright to outwardly spreading and mounding habit; and
    • 2. Pink flowers.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH

This new phlox plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph which shows an overall view of the whole plant. The photograph is of an approximately 15-week-old plant grown in Stuttgart, Germany under greenhouse conditions in June 2012. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures.

DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW VARIETY

The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KAZI15789’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected on 10-week-old plants after potting in the greenhouse in Stuttgart, Germany. Color references are to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), 5th edition (2007).
