Botanical classification: Callisia repens.

Variety denomination: ‘Rosato’.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Callisia plant botanically known as Callisia repens and hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name ‘Rosato’.

‘Rosato’ was discovered as a naturally occurring branch mutation of Callisia repens ‘Turtle’ (not patented). ‘Rosato’ was discovered by the inventor in 2013 in a greenhouse in a cultivated area of Sappemeer, Netherlands.

Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar ‘Rosato’ first occurred by tip cuttings in 2014 in Sappemeer, Netherlands. Since that time, under careful observation, the unique characteristics of the new cultivar have been uniform, stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations of asexual reproduction.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The following represent the distinguishing characteristics of the new Callisia cultivar ‘Rosato’. These traits in combination distinguish ‘Rosato’ as a new and distinct cultivar apart from other existing varieties of Callisia known by the inventor.

    • 1. Callisia ‘Rosato’ exhibits bi-colored pink-green leaves.
    • 2. Callisia ‘Rosato’ exhibits a compact habit.

The closest comparison cultivars are Callisia ‘Yellow Turtle’ (not patented) and Callisia ‘Bianca’ (not patented). ‘Rosato’ is distinguishable from ‘Yellow Turtle’ by the following characteristics:

    • 1. Callisia ‘Rosato’ exhibits bi-colored pink-green leaves. In comparison, the leaves of ‘Yellow Turtle’ are yellow-green.

‘Rosato’ is distinguishable from ‘Bianca’ by the following characteristics:

    • 1. Callisia ‘Rosato’ exhibits bi-colored pink-green leaves. In comparison, ‘Bianca’ has a mixture of individual leaves that are green, pink-green and striped.
    • 2. Callisia ‘Rosato’ exhibits smaller leaves than the leaves of ‘Bianca’.

‘Rosato’ is distinguishable from the parent plant, by the following characteristics:

    • 1. Callisia ‘Rosato’ exhibits bi-colored pink-green leaves. In comparison, the leaves of the parent plant are green.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING

The accompanying photograph illustrates the distinguishing traits of Callisia ‘Rosato’. The photograph shows an overall view of a 12 week old plant. The photograph was taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance, it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT

The following is a detailed description of the new Callisia cultivar named ‘Rosato’. Data was collected in Sappemeer, Netherlands from 12 week old plants grown in a glass greenhouse in 10.5 cm. diameter containers. The time of year was Winter and the temperature range was 18-25 degrees Centigrade during the day and 15-18 degrees Centigrade at night. The light level was natural light level. No photoperiodic treatments or growth retardants were used. Color determinations are in accordance with The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 2015 edition, except where general color terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The growing requirements are similar to the species. ‘Rosato’ has not been tested under all possible conditions and phenotypic differences may be observed with variations in environmental, climatic, and cultural conditions, however, without any variance in genotype.

      • Venation pattern.—None.
      • Young leaf color (upper surface).—62D and 63D with irregular stripes 146B and 146C and fine dots 71A.
      • Young leaf color (lower surface).—70B with irregular stripes 147B.
      • Mature leaf color (upper surface).—145D, 62C and N75B with irregular stripes 143A, 143B, 144A, 144B, 146A, 147A and fine dots 71A.
