plant named ‘G2X133181’
A new and distinct Lagerstroemia cultivar named ‘G2X133181’ is disclosed, characterized by rose-magenta blooms on a plant with red stems and dark green leaves. Plants have an attractive upright and arching growth habit, good basal branching and grow proportionately wide as tall. The new variety is a Lagerstroemia, normally used for outdoor ornamental purposes.

Latin name of the genus and species: Lagerstroemia indica.
Variety denomination: ‘G2X133181’.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe new Lagerstroemia cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the inventor, Michael Uchneat, in Bellefonte, Pa. The objective of the breeding program was to produce new Lagerstroemia varieties with a compact habit, superior winter hardiness and dense flowering. The open pollination resulting in this new variety was made during August of 2010.
The seed parent is the, patented commercial variety referred to as Lagerstroemia ‘Red Filli’ U.S. Plant Pat. No. 14,353. The pollen parent is unknown as it was an open pollination breeding program. The new variety was selected September of 2011 by the inventor in a group of seedlings resulting from the 2010 open pollination, in a seedling trial field in Bellefonte, Pa.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar was performed by softwood cuttings. This was first performed at Spring Meadow Nursery in Bellefonte, Pa. during February of 2012 and has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type in multiple successive generations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe cultivar ‘G2X133181’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘G2X133181’ These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘G2X133181’ as a new and distinct Lagerstroemia cultivar:
-
- 1. Rose magenta flower color
- 2. Red stems with dark green leaves
- 3. Upright arching growth habit.
- 4. Plants are as wide as they are tall.
- 5. Good basal branching.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘G2X133181’ are similar to plants of the seed parent, Lagerstroemia in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘G2X133181’ differ in the following;
-
- 1. The new variety has a magenta rose colored flower, the seed parent has red flowers.
- 2. The new variety forms a dense plant from basal branching, the seed parent has loose branching.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘G2X133181’ are comparable to the commercial variety Lagerstroemia ‘Infiniti Brite Pink’, unpatented. The two Lagerstroemia varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics; however, the new variety ‘G2X133181’ differs in the following:
-
- 1. The new variety has a darker pink flower.

In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 1996 except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘G2X133181’ plants grown in a poly house during April of 2016 in Bellefonte, Pa. The growing temperature ranged from approximately 18° C. to 27° C. during the day and from approximately 5° C. to 10° C. during the night. General light conditions are normal sunlight and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.
