Description

Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum x morifolium.

Varietal denomination: ‘CIDZ0100’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum x morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIDZ0100’.

‘CIDZ0100’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has medium sized purple and white striped daisy-type inflorescences, strong and uniform plant habit, and a flowering response time of 7 weeks.

‘CIDZ0100’ originated from a hybridization made in October 2013 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif. The female parent was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated as ‘B7984’, having solid purple daisy inflorescences and larger and fuller plant habit when compared to ‘CIDZ0100’. ‘CIDZ0100’ differs from the female parent in that the plant habit of ‘CIDZ0100’ is less vigorous, flowering response is 3-4 days faster and the flowers are purple and white in a longitudinal stripe pattern.

The male parent of ‘CIDZ0100’ was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated as ‘B8463’, with white colored daisy-type inflorescences and slower flowering response than ‘CIDZ0100’. ‘CIDZ0100’ differs from the male parent in that ‘CIDZ0100’ does not produce pollen, has a smaller flower diameter, flowers 2-3 days faster and the flowers are purple and white in a longitudinal stripe pattern.

The seed was sown in May 2014 and the resulting plants were grown in pots in a greenhouse in Gilroy, Calif. ‘CIDZ0100’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in October 2014.

The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIDZ0100’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in February 2015 in Gilroy Calif.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in May, 2015 and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIDZ0100’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.

‘CIDZ0100’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity and day length.

A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not yet been applied for. ‘CIDZ0100’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘CIDZ0100’ directly from the inventor.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘CIDZ0100’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.

The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 a close-up view of an inflorescence and in FIG. 2 a flowering plant of the new variety.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

The plant descriptions and measurements were taken indoors in Hollister, Calif. in April 2020 on about 11 week old plants. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots on Feb. 12, 2020. The plants were pinched and moved to short days on Mar. 4, 2020 to induce flowering.

The aforementioned photographs: FIGS. 1 and 2 were taken of the same plants used for the descriptions and measurements in Hollister, Calif. in April 2020.

Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart (R.H.S.) 2001.
