Description

Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Pelargonium peltatum.

Varietal denomination: ‘PEPZ0012’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new Pelargonium, botanically known as Pelargonium peltatum, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘PEPZ0012’.

‘PEPZ0012’ is a product of a spontaneous mutation. The new cultivar ‘PEPZ0012’ has a mounding-spreading plant habit, medium green foliage with light zonation, semi-double, pink flowers with a white bi-color patterning on large umbels.

‘PEPZ0012’ originates from a spontaneous mutation of a plant of Pelargonium peltatum ‘Lulumex’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 13,022) in May 2015, in a greenhouse in Germany ‘Lulumex’ has bicolor purple-white florets while ‘PEPZ0012’ has bicolor pink-white florets.

The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘PEPZ0012’ was accomplished when vegetative stem cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in June 2015 in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in June 2015 in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘PEPZ0012’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.

‘PEPZ0012’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.

‘PEPZ0012’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘PEPZ0012’ directly from the inventor.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Pelargonium as a new and distinct variety.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘PEPZ0012’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.

The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1, one flowering plant of the new variety and in

FIG. 2, a close-up of an inflorescence.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

The plant descriptions and measurements were taken in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands in early July 2020 under natural light. These plants were approximately 13 weeks old and were grown in a 12 cm pots, in a greenhouse trial. The plant shown in the photograph is about 12 weeks old growing in a 12 cm pot in a greenhouse in Andijk, The Netherlands. The photographs were taken in March 2019.

Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart (RHS) 2001.
